Chapter 58: The Toad Heroine
Liang Xiaoyu sought out a secluded spot and began practicing her “Wall Gecko Technique” against the wall.
She flailed her arms and legs, rubbing herself against the wall in an utterly ungainly manner.
【Is the streamer performing a monkey act?】
【Nonsense, she’s obviously crawling like a frog.】
【She looks just like my family’s poodle.】
【I can’t stop laughing—this must be a comedy streamer.】
Xiaolongnu suppressed her laughter and swept her gaze around, noticing that others were also seeking spaces to train on their own.
Huang Yaoshi walked around with his hands clasped behind his back, occasionally stopping to call out to volunteers who were practicing, pointing out their mistakes.
Each person he advised would suddenly see the light and thank him sincerely. Huang Yaoshi merely nodded lightly, maintaining an air of lofty expertise. Occasionally, when his eyes lingered on their watches, phones, or earphones, a flicker of curiosity would cross his face.
“It looks like he’s just arrived and doesn’t understand anything yet,” Xiaolongnu mused quietly. “Should I lend him some of those elementary and middle school textbooks I finished reading?”
…
After more than half an hour of rubbing against the wall, Liang Xiaoyu returned, drenched in sweat.
“This won’t do—there are still several parts I don’t understand.” She held her booklet and glanced toward Huang Yaoshi, only to see him heading upstairs.
He didn’t seem hurried, but when she tried to call out, his figure flashed and he was gone.
She’d let her guard down.
Annoyed, she tapped her head, then moved closer to Xiaolongnu. “Dragon, there are a few places I don’t really understand. Could you help explain them to me?”
Xiaolongnu smiled and nodded.
It was more than two hours before Liang Xiaoyu finally broke free from her training state.
She wanted to continue, but the audience in her livestream had grown impatient.
Especially some more hot-tempered viewers, who were showering her with gifts, making Liang Xiaoyu feel embarrassed to keep going.
Though she wasn’t short on money, the person leading the charge was her own mother.
Her phone, set to vibrate, had buzzed several times.
Her mother was urging her to go upstairs.
“Since everyone’s so eager, I’ll head to the second floor,” Liang Xiaoyu said regretfully.
“But honestly, unless you’re really dull, buying a martial arts manual and practicing here for a day should be enough to get the basics down. No need to buy repeatedly,” she said.
Taking her selfie stick, she climbed the stairs to the second floor.
Huang Yaoshi was sitting cross-legged behind a man with a dark face, hands pressed against his back.
The dark-faced man had blood at the corner of his mouth—it seemed he’d suffered a mishap while practicing.

She turned to ask Xiaolongnu, and the answer matched her own suspicions.
Liang Xiaoyu aimed her camera that way, speaking with lingering anxiety, “Everyone can see, that man suffered a martial arts mishap. If Huang Yaoshi hadn’t arrived in time to channel his internal energy, he’d have been bedridden for a month or two at least, and in severe cases, instant death isn’t impossible.”
“Martial arts require absolute caution—never be careless,” Liang Xiaoyu warned.
Her audience was startled.
【That looks terrifying.】
【Last time I practiced ‘Quanzhen Internal Method,’ I suddenly felt cold all over, like I was dying.】
【I once had a mishap while channeling energy, felt numb all over—if I hadn’t stopped immediately, I might not be here.】
【Wow, the one above is a real expert with internal energy.】
【I saw on the news a top college entrance scorer in our area suffered a martial arts mishap—he was left dazed.】
【Damn, you guys are making me afraid to practice at all.】
…
Reading these comments, Liang Xiaoyu shook her head. “That’s why the park doesn’t allow random dissemination of these techniques. Unlike ‘Quanzhen Internal Method,’ some martial arts are fierce or extremely cold; without an expert nearby, a single mistake can’t be saved.”
Xiaolongnu, who had been silent for a while, finally interjected, “Top-tier martial arts are rarely practiced because they require extremely high aptitude. Ordinary people either never master them or are prone to serious mishaps.”
“Wasn’t Guo Jing of average aptitude?” Liang Xiaoyu retorted instinctively.
“Great Hero Guo may have lacked talent, but his perseverance far exceeded others. In that sense, his aptitude was extraordinary,” Xiaolongnu replied softly.
Liang Xiaoyu murmured an “oh.”
Huang Yaoshi had already stood up.
The dark-faced youth climbed to his feet, wiped the blood from his mouth, and thanked him sincerely, “Thank you, Island Master Huang.”
“No need,” Huang Yaoshi shook his head, “It was my duty.”
He moved on to guide several others in their martial arts.
Liang Xiaoyu wanted to interview the dark-faced youth, but he simply sat cross-legged again in silence, so she turned to examine the martial arts manuals.
Of the ten top-tier manuals, eight had already been bought and taken away.
Seeing the empty wooden boxes, Liang Xiaoyu pursed her lips.
Only two remained.
“This one is the ‘Dog Beating Staff Technique.’ Such a powerful skill, and no one’s learning it?” Liang Xiaoyu glanced down, “Price: forty-five million.”
“I don’t think it’s expensive,” she remarked.
【That’s not expensive?】
【Look at the arrogance of the wealthy!】
【To be fair, the streamer is right—that’s the exclusive martial art of the Beggars’ Sect leader.】
【If I learn it, will all the beggars in the world obey me?】
【I want to buy it, but I have no money.】

【I have money, but no ticket.】
…
Liang Xiaoyu ignored the chat.
She glanced at the remaining martial art.
The “Toad Technique,” priced at fifty million.
“The ‘Toad Technique’ is even pricier than the ‘Dog Beating Staff Technique.’ Let me read the description…” She slowly recited, “This skill uses stillness to control movement, stores power and builds momentum, holds back force without release. As soon as the enemy attacks, it unleashes an overwhelmingly fierce counterstrike…”
After reading, she looked up. “According to the description, its power is on par with the ‘Eighteen Dragon-Subduing Palms’—extremely fierce and very prone to mishaps.”
“But,” she laughed, “I think people didn’t choose it mainly because it’s so undignified—when practicing, you look just like a big toad.”
With that, the tone of the livestream chat changed.
【Streamer, practice it!】
【Xiaoyu is perfect for the ‘Toad Technique.’】
【Wasn’t the streamer just practicing the ‘Toad Technique’?】
【From now on, we’ll call you Toad Heroine.】
【Toad Heroine.】
【Toad Heroine.】
…
Seeing the comments, Liang Xiaoyu pursed her lips. “A bunch of troublemakers! I’m clearly ethereal and fairy-like—I should be called Fairy Xiaoyu instead.”
【Streamer must misunderstand what ‘ethereal’ means.】
【Xiaolongnu: Streamer, are you talking about me?】
【Enough nonsense, hurry up and practice the ‘Toad Technique.’ We’ll pool funds—I’ll chip in a dime.】
…
Liang Xiaoyu glanced at the comments, then ignored them.
She noticed Xiaolongnu had already moved to a small room at the far side.
Above the room, the sign read “Pharmacy.”
Liang Xiaoyu hurried after her, stepping into the pharmacy.
Inside, about a hundred square meters, there were only two wooden shelves.
When Liang Xiaoyu saw the items on the shelves, her eyes lit up.
