Chapter 150: Spider Valley
The Spider Valley had been open for two days. Although no one had ever been bitten by that mutated spider, no one was unaware of its miraculous nature.
Fang Xinlin and the Italian woman wanted to go there and take a chance on their luck.
Wang Yunxi had eaten a skewer of roasted spider yesterday to psych herself up, only to be scared awake three times during the night, so naturally, she was quite reluctant.
Song Kang had even less interest in such slim odds and was likewise unwilling to waste time.
"Why don't everyone take a vote?" the dark-faced volunteer suggested.
Two to two.
The deciding vote fell to Wang Lu.
"Little bro, what's so fun about spiders? Let's go see the giant python instead, it's a lot of fun," Wang Yunxi said with a smile.
The Italian woman silently puffed out her chest, pressed her lips together, and smiled at Wang Lu.
Wang Lu hurriedly looked away.
"Can't we go to both?" he asked.
The dark-faced volunteer nodded. "Of course you can, but you might get hurt in the Spider Valley."
Wang Lu immediately recalled a video he had seen last night.
It was a screen recording of Liang Xiaoyu live-streaming her solo trek through the Spider Valley the day before.
Just as she had walked a little less than halfway, she was bitten by an entirely pitch-black spider.
Within minutes, her bitten left shoulder rapidly swelled up, and this swelling quickly spread across her entire body, even swelling her head until it looked like a pig's head.
Then she ended the broadcast, so Wang Lu had no idea what happened afterward, but just looking at her miserable state sent chills down his spine.
Wang Lu had no desire to experience that kind of fate.
"Once you're injured, you won't be able to go anywhere else," Song Kang said from the side. "Think about it, you didn't come here just to experience being bitten by a spider, did you?"
"It's not that terrifying," the taciturn Fang Xinlin spoke up. "At least four or five hundred people have passed through these past few days, and only two unlucky fellows were heavily injured and passed out, unable to continue the rest of the journey. Even if the others were bitten, the injuries were very minor, and basically everyone was safe and sound."
"Besides," he looked at Wang Lu, "what if your luck explodes and you become the next Spider-Man?"
Wang Lu couldn't help but imagine himself soaring back and forth through the jungle using spider silk.
He felt a bit tempted.
"The probability of that is much lower than being bitten to death by a spider," Wang Yunxi reminded him.
"You won't die, at most you'll be heavily injured," Fang Xinlin said. "The probability of that is also very low."
The several people stared at him aggressively.
"Then why don't we go to the python pavilion first, and then go to the Spider Valley?" Wang Lu asked timidly.
The rest of them were slightly stunned, and then all fell silent.
"Fine, it's just making one extra detour," Fang Xinlin said indifferently.
The Italian woman shrugged.
Actually, she had thought of this long ago, but still wanted to fight for it.
From childhood to the present, whether it was toys or men, she had never yielded.
Since she was not on her own turf now, she had no choice but to take a step back.
The group wandered around the python pavilion.
Those massive pythons made Wang Lu feel a bit creeped out.
He couldn't help thinking of the wildly popular "snake kiss" animated GIF circulating on the internet.
The one where Liang Xiaoyu got her face smeared by Python Thirteen.
He instantly offered a moment of silence for the female streamer.
In the past, he used to join other netizens in mocking her for being cowardly, but now he felt that if that python crawled up and gave him a taste of that, he would probably wet his pants.
"Goddess Xiaoyu isn't having an easy time either," he thought to himself.
The rest of the group had all collected some small trinkets along the way.
Unknown animal droppings, shed snake skins, bone fragments, strange little insects, and so on.
Wang Lu came away empty-handed.
He had been busy these past few days and hadn't managed to look at those strategy guides at all.
The others had been prepared long in advance, fully equipped with small bottles, telescopic poles, fishhooks, insect-luring lamps, and the like, leaving Wang Lu dazzled.
Although the items here were no longer as valuable as before, managing to acquire some special knick-knacks could still fetch a high price.
And extra money never hurt anyone.
He was filled with regret.
"Next is the Spider Valley. If you don't want to go, you can wait right here, and I'll notify others passing by to give you a ride out," the dark-faced volunteer said to the group.
"How long will they take?" Wang Yunxi asked.
"About ten minutes or so." The dark-faced volunteer raised his arm and showed the group his smart watch. "I've already asked."
"Can't you stay and wait with us?" Wang Yunxi was a bit scared.
This place was at the boundary between the Dinosaur Park and the Python Pavilion; any random fierce beast could eat her alive.
Song Kang also looked on with eager eyes.
He had expended quite a few resources just to enter the threshold of martial arts, and his current kung fu was only good for bullying Huskies; if he ran into a Velociraptor, he'd have to drop to his knees.
"Don't worry, as long as I report your location, an absolutely safe zone will be marked out for you," the dark-faced volunteer explained with a smile.
"Forget it, I might as well follow along to the Spider Valley. My luck shouldn't be that terrible," Wang Yunxi said through gritted teeth.
She certainly didn't dare stay here.
Hearing her say that, Song Kang cursed under his breath and had no choice but to say, "Then I'll go too."
Wang Lu opened his mouth to speak, but stopped himself.
He had initially calmed down and thought it best not to take risks, but since everyone else had decided to go, he had no choice but to follow the crowd.
The Brachiosaurus moved leisurely forward, and after not walking much further, it stopped.
A canyon appeared before the group.
Standing before them was a canyon entrance over two meters wide, filled with jagged rocks, with some vegetation sprouting from the crevices.
Slightly higher up, the three characters "Spider Valley" were carved onto a huge boulder.
Between the two boulders hung a huge spider web, upon which a person was currently lying.
Upon seeing the Brachiosaurus eating grass with its head lowered over here, the person quickly leaped down and walked toward the crowd.
"Welcome to the Spider Valley!" he said with a smile.
"Spider-Man?" Wang Lu asked excitedly.
Peter smiled. "My name is Peter Parker, nicknamed Spider-Man, and everyone also calls me little spider."
Wang Lu looked at the other person in pleasant surprise, flipped his backpack—whose zipper pull was already broken—to the front, and pulled out a photograph. "Can you help me sign it?"
"Of course." Peter took it, only to discover that although the person in the photo was wearing a spider suit very similar to his own, the face was not his.
He wrote his name stroke by stroke. "Which movie is this me in?"
As he said this, he felt rather odd.
However, he was no longer a newcomer and knew some of the park's secrets; previously, he had been watching a movie titled *The Amazing Spider-Man*.
"I forgot," Wang Lu said sheepishly. "It was given by a classmate in our class, and there are several more."
He rummaged through his backpack, where there was still a poster.
"This one is cool!" Peter praised, looking at the black Spider-Man bonded with Venom.
The people to the side were all somewhat helpless.
"As expected, only kids have common topics with each other." Such thoughts popped into all of their minds.
After a long while, Peter finally finished signing Wang Lu's autograph, posed with a "V" sign for a photo with him, and then turned his attention to the rest of the group.
"Everyone, please show your tickets. If you haven't purchased one, scan the QR code nearby, and then you can go in."
Taking advantage of the time spent checking tickets, he briefly introduced the Spider Valley to everyone, along with a few precautions.
"...If you suffer a fatal injury, you'll pass out, but just sleeping for two days will fix it," he said with a smile. "I wish you all a pleasant time."
