Chapter 121: A Heart-Piercing Blow
After showing the audience a tour of the playground, Liang Xiaoyu walked toward the nearby teaching building.
The main entrance was locked tight. She reached out to push it, but it wouldn't budge. As she raised her foot to kick it, a translucent screen instantly popped up in front of her: "Entry to the teaching building is by invitation only. Please refrain from violent destruction!"
Below that line of text was a link labeled "Teaching Building Details." Curious, Liang Xiaoyu took a look and briefly explained it to her viewers.
"This teaching building can accommodate twenty-four classes, and the students are... mutants!"
"It really is that school from X-Men. Studying in these classrooms can even increase the rate of ability improvement by tenfold."
"Sounds pretty impressive," she sighed.
[Holy crap, X-Men!]
[It really is! Doesn't this mean there's hope for a martial arts loser like me?]
[Goddess Xiaoyu, check and see if ordinary people can learn superpowers in there too!]
...
Liang Xiaoyu continued to browse, feeling curious. She had heard from Little Dragon Maiden that their staff store had been stocked with many mutant X-genes. She had been longing for a chance to get her hands on one, but after days of seeing no progress, she had almost given up hope. She never expected to find a breakthrough here.
Unfortunately, after scanning the text for a long time, she couldn't find any information on how to acquire superpowers.
"It's alright, let's check out other places," Liang Xiaoyu said with a light chuckle.
From the teaching building to the dorms, and then over to the office building... Liang Xiaoyu couldn't enter any of them, nor could she find the information she was looking for. However, she did stumble upon some interesting news.
In a corner of the office building, she found a room marked "Infirmary," where she learned that mutant abilities could be used to treat illnesses. It sounded magical, but it held no appeal for her. She was healthy and had no need for it. Besides, the description of the infirmary was vague, making it impossible to determine the actual effectiveness of the treatment.
Liang Xiaoyu continued walking with her bamboo basket in tow.
The final building. To the left was the sports center, and to the right was the library. She headed toward the sports center first. Pushing the door, a screen appeared before her.
"Cultural and sports activity area, including an auditorium, indoor swimming pool, basketball court..."
Liang Xiaoyu looked at the camera and sighed: "Still nothing useful."
The viewers in the livestream were also sighing. A school this large without even a small convenience store—it was truly maddening.
"Now, let's check out the library," Liang Xiaoyu said, adjusting her mood with a smile. "Maybe there are books and newspapers from the X-Men world here, so everyone can get the inside scoop on the superheroes."
Seeing someone mention superpowers again, she shook her head and said, "Don't be greedy, everyone. The Iron Man suit has been out for so long, and it still hasn't been put up for sale."
"Anyway, now that the school has appeared, there will definitely be opportunities in the future," she added.
Seeing some viewers still pestering her, she delivered a sharp jab: "Stop clamoring, everyone. You can't get in anyway."
The chat room erupted into chaos.
[Black-bellied thief Yu, stabbing hearts online.]
[Thief Yu: You guys shouldn't watch me hanging out in the horror house; you don't even have the chance to hang out if you wanted to!]
[Someone only passed the horror house by using connections.]
[Don't expose her like that.]
[Scaredy-cat Xiaoyu, afraid of ghosts.]
[Hahaha, well at least I've been in!]
...
Liang Xiaoyu flashed a grin at the camera and walked to the entrance of the library.
The door was made of thick wood and secured with a rustic, antique-looking padlock. She knocked on the lock, and a screen popped up in front of her. She read it word for word, explaining it to the audience as she went.
"The library contains volumes of records regarding all students and staff of the X-Mansion..."
She frowned, feeling that something about that sentence was off. She looked closer.
"By reading these volumes, there is a certain probability of obtaining the opportunity to purchase the corresponding mutant X-gene!"
Upon reaching the end, Liang Xiaoyu finally caught the most crucial sentence. Her expression shifted instantly, and she clenched her fists, exclaiming in surprise: "It's right here!"
The livestream was in an uproar.
[What's the situation?]
[You can get superpowers just by reading books?]
[Did you learn reading comprehension from an art teacher? It's just a purchase right!]
[That's still awesome! I want superpowers!]
[Did you all ignore the words "certain probability"?]
[Thief Yu, go check it out.]
[Goddess Xiaoyu, please help us find out what those odds are.]
[Do you even have the money?]
[Can you even get in?]
...
Liang Xiaoyu's eyes sparkled, filled with her own anticipation. She had heard from Little Dragon Maiden about those mysterious mutant X-genes in the staff store. Several of them could maintain eternal youth. Even the reserved Little Dragon Maiden had seemed quite tempted. Powerful mutant abilities could even change the world!
Even though she knew that the price would be more than enough to sell off all the old folks in her family, that didn't stop her from fantasizing.
What if Mr. Qiao had a moment of madness and gave her a 0.00001% discount?
Moving the camera away, Liang Xiaoyu quietly swallowed, then pretended to be calm: "You all can come in and try your luck if you get the chance."
Three seconds later, she couldn't hold it anymore and said with a depressed look, "I want to know those things too."
The mood in the chat shifted immediately.
[Ignorant thief Yu, what use are you!]
[Stagnant as a turtle, thief Yu knows nothing.]
[If you don't know, why are you talking about it!]
[Don't listen to them, streamer. These people don't know anything. Only us old viewers know how pathetic you looked when you were hanging in that ghost house. Brothers, post the screenshots!]
[I'm a screenshot, don't post me.]
...
Liang Xiaoyu was so angry her nose was almost crooked. When they needed her, she was "Goddess Xiaoyu," but when she was useless, they immediately turned on her and called her "Thief Yu." Had she been a tool all along?
"You people, hmph!" she said angrily. "I'm ignoring you. I'm leaving, is that okay?"
She had seen enough of the school, and there wasn't a soul around; the silence was a bit unsettling. She shrunk her neck and decided it was best to get out first.
...
At this moment, Qiao Mian was in his office.
He sat on the sofa with his legs crossed, watching two middle-aged men staring at each other. One stood still in a gray jacket, while the other sat in a wheelchair, bald.
"Erik!"
"Charles!"
Both spoke almost simultaneously, then closed their mouths, suppressing the shock in their eyes. Qiao Mian found it amusing. Such rapport couldn't be built without decades of bromance. After their brief astonishment, they both looked at him.
"Mr. Qiao, what is this?" Professor X asked first.
Everyone who enters the park is granted fluency in the local language.
"As per the information you received when you first entered," Qiao Mian said, smiling at them, "this is another world."
"Fantastic Park will provide you with an absolutely safe environment, one better suited for the survival of mutants, and offer a broader stage for the mutant cause."
With that, he took a sip of the tea Wang Lang had sent over a few days ago and looked at them: "If you have any questions, feel free to ask."
The two looked at each other, neither speaking immediately.
