Chapter 105: The Cell Phone
A moment later.
After Li Yunlong finished roughly explaining the Fantasy Park and that wondrous world, Zhao Gang still harbored some doubts.
“Political Commissar Zhao, here’s your noodles,” Zhang Dabiao brought over a cup of instant noodles.
Zhao Gang didn’t hesitate.
He had already caught the enticing aroma, and his stomach had been growling incessantly.
Lifting the lid, the fragrance grew even richer.
Zhao Gang swallowed hard.
After taking the first bite of the noodles, he began to believe.
Such delicious food—how could it possibly be here?
In no time, he finished the entire cup, drinking the broth clean.
His tongue tingled slightly, seemingly burned.
“Old Zhao, now that we’ve eaten, shall we get down to business?” Li Yunlong smiled.
Zhao Gang straightened up.
He was still somewhat unaccustomed to Li Yunlong’s warmth.
“You go ahead,” he said.
“I’ve already reported the Fantasy Park situation to the division commander,” Li Yunlong said seriously. “Originally, I planned for you to go there with Monk Wei.”
“Monk Wei?” Zhao Gang furrowed his brows.
This guy even knew Monk Wei! That was a master he had just recently encountered, planning to have him as his bodyguard.
“But this month, Old Kong volunteered,” Li Yunlong chuckled.
“What volunteering? You’re just pushing him into it!” Kong Jie snorted. “Why don’t you go yourself?”
Li Yunlong waved his hand and said, “You’re a top student and also the person Mr. Qiao specifically wants to see. It’s perfect for you to go over there to build connections and bring back some good stuff.”
He sat upright and added, “You don’t even know, there’s something called an atomic bomb. One of those can destroy an entire city!”
Zhao Gang remained silent.
“Don’t think I’m making this up,” Li Yunlong pulled a phone wrapped in cloth from his pocket.
“Hey, Old Li, you still have this thing?” Kong Jie immediately stood up.
They had all been to Earth before and seen others using phones, especially Xiao Liu who used his phone to pay at the supermarket. Kong Jie had been envious.
“You can use it yourself when you go there,” Li Yunlong elbowed Kong Jie aside.
Zhao Gang looked on curiously.
When the phone screen lit up, his eyes brightened as well.
Li Yunlong’s phone only had some videos and pictures downloaded by Wang Lang for him.
Besides the “Drawing Sword” TV series, there was also the video of an atomic bomb explosion he had longed to see.
Using thick fingers, he searched for a while, finally finding the video and playing it.
Watching the footage on the phone, Zhao Gang’s breathing quickened.
“Damn, this is incredible!” Kong Jie exclaimed.
---
Zhang Dabiao craned his neck but was blocked by the crowd.
He scratched his head anxiously.
“What is this?”
As the phone automatically played the next video segment, the words “Drawing Sword” appeared on the screen.
Zhao Gang asked.
Li Yunlong glanced around, pondered for a few seconds, then told Zhang Dabiao, “Go fetch Monk Wei and close the door.”
“Yes!” Zhang Dabiao said excitedly.
Monk Wei walked in, looking confused.
As Zhang Dabiao locked the door, Monk Wei still seemed puzzled.
“Brother, great things are happening, don’t worry!” Zhang Dabiao smiled at his expression.
When the two entered, they saw Li Yunlong, Kong Jie, and Zhao Gang neatly lying on the kang bed, a phone playing in front of them.
Zhang Dabiao quickly squeezed over.
Seeing Monk Wei standing still, he waved, “Monk, come over here!”
What was going on?
Monk Wei’s mind was full of questions, utterly baffled.
Li Yunlong turned back, looked at the tall and sturdy Monk Wei, and nodded slightly. “Monk, aren’t you coming?”
“Officer, who are you?” Monk Wei raised his chin.
“I’m Li Yunlong!” Li Yunlong said.
Monk Wei was stunned, then his face lit up.
“I’ve heard of you…”
Before he could finish, Li Yunlong interrupted, “Cut the crap. From now on, you’re my bodyguard. Come watch with us!”
Being Li Yunlong’s bodyguard?
Monk Wei was a hundred percent satisfied.
Although still full of confusion, he happily climbed onto the kang.
Could this be the Eighth Route Army’s custom?
Seeing the phone in front of him, he was shocked: what was this thing? There were tiny people moving!
The room fell silent.
The five of them quietly watched “Drawing Sword” on the phone.
“Damn it, it’s all footage of Li Yunlong!” Kong Jie thought bitterly.
“So that’s why the regiment commander has that temper!” Zhao Gang glanced at Li Yunlong quietly.
“I see the commander had his eye on me since he left the First New Regiment,” Zhang Dabiao was secretly pleased.
“Isn’t this about me?” When the show depicted Monk Wei dueling a Japanese officer one-on-one, he couldn’t help but speak up.
Seeing the others glare at him, Monk Wei quickly shut up.
Zhao Gang gradually understood why Li Yunlong had treated him that way before.
Monk Wei also understood why Zhang Dabiao had called him in.
Seeing how the Independent Regiment was short on clothes and ammo, forced to use close combat for ambushes to acquire equipment, everyone’s mood grew heavy.
When the cavalry company fought until only one man remained, and Captain Sun Desheng refused to surrender to the death, everyone was both moved and heartbroken.
---
Seeing Xiuqin tugging at him, Li Yunlong was a bit shy.
When he heard her shout, “Alive, I’m yours; dead, I’m your ghost,” and willingly let him open fire, his eyes reddened.
Zhao Gang patted his shoulder.
Li Yunlong said nothing.
“Why the hell haven’t I appeared for so long?” Kong Jie was unhappy after several episodes without himself.
“I never complained even when I died,” Monk Wei retorted.
“Hey, you brat!” Kong Jie laughed and scolded.
Li Yunlong raised his hand and turned off the phone screen.
“What are you doing? Keep going!” Zhang Dabiao shouted.
He was still waiting for his own appearance.
Zhao Gang was the first to sit up and asked Li Yunlong, “Old Li, is all this real?”
“What do you think?” Li Yunlong shook the phone. “Not to mention those damn Japanese, even the Germans didn’t have this stuff!”
Zhao Gang nodded.
Some of his classmates had studied abroad but had never heard of anything like this.
“Old Zhao,” Li Yunlong’s tone suddenly grew serious, “you’ve seen it too. The war is brutal. Monk Wei died in the future, Dabiao…”
“Commander, am I dead too?” Zhang Dabiao asked anxiously.
Li Yunlong cleared his throat.
He hadn’t finished watching himself and hadn’t specifically asked Wang Lang.
“This kid probably won’t marry until the revolution succeeds,” he said expressionlessly.
Zhang Dabiao opened his mouth.
“I’m decent at fighting, but other things, not so much,” Li Yunlong continued. “The Fantasy Park shooting range business, I’m counting on you.”
Seeing Zhao Gang was about to speak, he continued, “That place could be called a paradise. As long as the relations are handled well, not only can we drive out the Japanese, but having the proletariat rule the world is no empty talk!”
Zhao Gang weighed the pros and cons calmly and finally nodded firmly: “Alright.”
“But let’s agree,” Zhao Gang said, “I’ll only stay there a month. Next month, you send someone else.”
“No problem!” Li Yunlong said.
“When I’m not here, don’t mess around. These weapons are advanced, but the soldiers aren’t skilled. Without proper training, we might not win!” Zhao Gang warned.
“Got it.”
“Third, I’ll confirm this with the higher-ups. If what you say is true and has been reported, only then will I go,” Zhao Gang added.
“That’s definitely possible. But you can ask the division commander directly. I’ll personally talk to the brigade commander; otherwise, these weapons will be taken away again,” Li Yunlong smiled.
Zhao Gang nodded.
