Chapter 101: Treasure [Please Subscribe]
Half a cigarette dropped to the ground. The division commander’s mouth hung slightly open, his eyes wide as he stared ahead.
Haunted?
Li Yunlong had fallen in battle against the enemy; was the one who just spoke to me his ghost?
As he pondered this, a figure suddenly flashed before him, reappearing.
Seeing Li Yunlong again, alongside a large crate, the commander’s eyes nearly popped out.
“Li Yunlong, are you even human?” the commander blurted out.
“Depends on what you call human; I might as well be a deity,” Li Yunlong chuckled.
“What’s going on here?” Even the seasoned commander couldn’t suppress the turmoil within.
What on earth was happening?
Could there really be immortals in this world?
Had some blind immortal taken a liking to this rascal?
Li Yunlong patted the crate beside him. “Commander, here is the treasure I’ve prepared for you.”
“First, tell me how you managed this,” the commander said gravely.
If immortals truly existed, could we recruit one for our cause?
Li Yunlong pulled up a stool and sat down. “Commander, I was indeed chosen by an immortal.”
So it was true!
“Explain in detail,” the commander urged.
Li Yunlong carefully recounted the entire tale.
The commander listened silently, his expression shifting constantly.
When Li Yunlong finished, he opened the large crate beside him without another word.
He pulled out a pistol and handed it over. “Take a look at this.”
The commander flipped it in his hands, ejected the magazine, fired a shot into the air, then nodded approvingly. “This quality is far superior to the Germans’ mirror-finish rifles.”
“There’s more.” Li Yunlong produced an automatic rifle.
The commander snatched it up, cradling it with admiration. “This is excellent.”
“And even better things.” Li Yunlong smiled proudly.
He brought out various grenades, heavy machine guns, and shoulder-fired rockets from the alley.
“What’s this?” the commander asked, puzzled by the small unmanned reconnaissance drone Li Yunlong pulled out last.
“An airplane,” Li Yunlong said mysteriously.
“Don’t take me for a fool; I’ve seen planes before,” the commander shot back.
Li Yunlong proudly displayed the controller.
The first batch of small drones had been fully tested, and he had tried them outside.
“Let’s go outside,” Li Yunlong said.
Curiosity getting the better of him, the commander cleared everyone out and followed.
Watching the drone take flight, the commander was stunned.
When the screen in Li Yunlong’s hand showed the aerial view, the commander slammed his fist on the ground. “This damn thing really is a treasure!”
“They said they could also supply missiles. I heard these powerful missiles could strike the enemy’s homeland from here,” Li Yunlong added excitedly.
The commander remained silent, deep in thought.
***
A century later, in the Rabbits’ Nation.
Everyone lived in magnificent skyscrapers hundreds of meters tall, traveling by elevator.
Ordinary people drove cars, and long trips were by plane.
Delicious meat sandwiches were eaten whenever desired, discarded without care.
Alcohol flowed like water.
Clothes were colorful and changed daily.
Communication across thousands of miles was possible, even seeing each other’s faces.
One had to watch their diet carefully, lest they gain weight!
He was overwhelmed with emotions.
Though aware that Li Yunlong exaggerated somewhat, he knew most of it was true.
Is this truly the future we’re fighting for?
“Don’t join the Independent Regiment. Instead, handle liaison with the other side,” the commander said.
Li Yunlong jumped up as if his tail had been stepped on.
“How can that be?”
“Mr. Qiao wants me to stay there as an immortal,” he shouted, “If I can’t fight the enemy, what’s the point of me coming back!”
The commander opened his mouth but then closed it.
He knew Li Yunlong’s nature.
Rules could never restrain this guy.
“Besides, isn’t Zhao Gang there?” Li Yunlong grinned. “He’s far more suitable than me for that position.”
The commander frowned.
He knew Zhao Gang well. A top graduate from Yanda University, indeed more reliable than this fellow.
But...
“Have you met Zhao Gang?” he asked.
“Mr. Qiao said...” Li Yunlong briefly explained the five positions and the TV series.
A TV series!
The commander’s face shifted repeatedly but said nothing.
He was the kind who trusted only himself, not fate.
“Commander, why don’t you go over as well?” Li Yunlong asked.
The commander chuckled. “You probably have your own plans. Spill it.”
Li Yunlong smiled, then said, “Zhang Dabiao and Monk Wei need two spots. I plan to have them take charge of the shooting range.”
The commander said nothing.
This was Li Yunlong’s matter, and he wouldn’t interfere lightly.
He also knew that once reported, Li Yunlong would become a precious asset, perhaps even his superior someday.
He didn’t envy him, only felt happy.
As long as the revolution succeeded and the future was bright, he was content.
“What about the other two spots?”
Seeing Li Yunlong silent for a while, he asked again.
“I was going to save two for my wife, but then I changed my mind,” Li Yunlong said. “Those two spots will be decided by the organization.”
The commander scolded with a smile, “Where the hell did you get a wife?”
Li Yunlong just smiled quietly.
***
He felt uneasy.
From Wang Lang’s words, he learned he didn’t just have a wife, but two.
The first had been killed by his own order to shell her.
Polygamy—it was something landlords did.
Originally, the second wife was married only after the first died; now he hadn’t even met either.
What would he do now?
Couldn’t very well have two separate beds at home.
Not to mention whether the wives agreed, the organization would probably expel him.
But could he really give up one?
The more he thought, the more his head ached. He simply stopped thinking and kept a silly smile, looking at the commander.
“I’ll report this to the higher-ups,” the commander said after consideration. “But before orders come down, don’t spread this around!”
“My mouth’s sealed tight,” Li Yunlong promised.
He added, “There’s one more thing I need to tell you.”
“What?”
“About Kong Jie...”
After some negotiation, the commander agreed to keep Kong Jie as deputy regiment commander of the Independent Regiment.
Just as Li Yunlong was about to leave, the commander called after him.
“Where are you going?”
“Back,” Li Yunlong answered.
“Leave your stuff here!” the commander glared.
Li Yunlong pointed to his patched uniform. “I even gave you my cigarettes.”
“You think I don’t know your temper?” the commander sneered. “They must have sent more than just one crate, right?”
Seeing Li Yunlong about to argue, the commander said firmly, “Leave half, or you’ll be the liaison!”
Li Yunlong muttered a few words, then disappeared.
Moments later, looking at the courtyard piled high with supplies, the commander’s face was calm but his heart thundered.
“I miscalculated!”
“If I’d known there’d be so many treasures, I should’ve only given him a fifth.”
Seeing the commander’s mood swing, Li Yunlong quickly brought out a small box.
He handed it over eagerly. “Commander, I specially prepared this for you.”
“What is it?” the commander feigned indifference.
Could it be a custom-made pistol?
Opening the box, the commander’s face brightened briefly but soon turned stern. “What use have you for this? Wouldn’t it be better to get more guns?”
“No? Then I’ll take it back.” Li Yunlong bent down to pick up the box.
“What are you doing!” the commander kicked him in the rear. “Get moving back quickly!”
Li Yunlong wasn’t angry, instead grinning broadly. “Alright, I’m off. Enjoy the cigarettes and liquor.”
Watching Li Yunlong leave, the commander’s expression grew heavy.
After a moment’s hesitation, he summoned the guards, ordering them to secure the rooms tightly—no mouse allowed inside—and hurried off to find the deputy chief commander.
