Chapter Ninety-Eight: Holding the Privy Without Using It
Upon hearing this, Ye Wuya took two Speed Talismans and stuck one onto each leg. The paper seemed to possess a natural adhesive quality, clinging firmly to his legs without falling off.
"Why is there no reaction?"
Ye Wuya stomped his feet on the ground, but nothing happened. The Speed Talismans remained stuck to his legs exactly as they were before.
"Senior, these Speed Talismans only take effect once you start running," Jiang Xiaoxiao said earnestly, showing not a shred of doubt toward Ye Wuya.
Run?
Hearing Jiang Xiaoxiao’s explanation, Ye Wuya took a few running steps forward. At first, he felt nothing, but after four or five paces, he felt his legs grow light, and his speed increased noticeably.
So this is what a Speed Talisman does! It takes effect the moment it is applied to the legs!
Ye Wuya ran for about a kilometer before turning back and returning to where he started. He looked at the other talismans and pointed to the second row. "What are these?"
"Senior, these are Tier 1 Shield Talismans. They are of high quality and can withstand an attack from someone around the Form-Gathering Realm. To use them, you just stick them on your body and activate them!"
Seeing Ye Wuya asking about another type, Jiang Xiaoxiao hurriedly explained, kindly including the instructions so he wouldn't have to ask twice.
Activate? Hearing this, Ye Wuya picked up another one and stuck it to his body. How does one activate it?
As he pondered, he released a tiny sliver of his sword intent. The moment the intent left his body, the fierce sword aura sharply shredded the talisman into fragments—into dust!
Jiang Xiaoxiao: "..."
Ye Wuya stared blankly as the dust fell to the ground and scattered in the wind. Embarrassed, he rubbed his nose and picked up another Shield Talisman to examine it closely. He recalled that when Lu Li used them, he had simply covered his entire body in them, and they had activated automatically.
"Is it activated by spiritual power?" Ye Wuya murmured.
He assumed he had figured it out. Only spiritual power could stimulate them; his sword intent was too domineering and would simply destroy the paper. While spiritual power could be both aggressive and gentle, sword intent was purely sharp energy. Or perhaps, Ye Wuya simply hadn't mastered how to use his sword intent to stimulate a talisman yet.
"Senior, you don't even need these talismans! They're all trash..." Jiang Xiaoxiao added in a small voice.
Ye Wuya rolled his eyes in annoyance and glared at her, saying coldly, "Can't I just play with them?"
"Hmph!"
With a burst of sword aura, he shredded the shield talismans on his body and swept the entire row away.
He looked at the remaining pile of talismans. He had originally been curious, but upon reflection, he realized he had long since surpassed the need for such low-level items. Take that shield talisman, for instance; even in his severely injured state, the power of a single punch would be enough to shatter it. As for the Speed Talisman? Needless to say, could running ever compare to flying? They weren't even in the same league.
He looked at the third row of talismans. These felt different from the others. Intuition told him that if these exploded, they would pose a threat—at the very least, his current physical body would not be able to withstand them.
The talismans were covered in intricate, winding patterns that formed a shape resembling the character for "Thunder." He remembered the Palm-Thunder Talisman Lu Li had used; this must be it. Unfortunately, these were the rarest of the lot. There were only a few dozen in total, looking quite meager compared to the hill of other talismans.
"How do you use this one?" Ye Wuya asked, picking one up and holding it out to Jiang Xiaoxiao.
"Senior, this is a Palm-Thunder Talisman. You stick it inside your palm and stimulate it with spiritual power. Once activated, it can be used. Generally, spiritual talismans are controlled by spiritual power," Jiang Xiaoxiao explained pitifully. She then added, "Though, Senior, you could also use your divine sense to activate them; spiritual power is just the standard method."
Divine sense? That must be soul power. Ye Wuya could look inside his own body, his dantian, and his soul sea (mind), but he had no idea how to utilize this "divine sense." His sense had been forcibly expanded by that mass of blood-gold ancient characters in his mind; even his ability to look inside himself was a result of those characters.
Ye Wuya felt his divine sense was quite strong, but the problem was he didn't know how to use it. It was like owning a treasure vault but having no key to open it.
That mass of blood-gold characters had been passed to him by the woman in red in the ancient tomb, who had forcibly elevated his sense. Ye Wuya had speculated that they might be a peerless cultivation technique or a heavenly text. They might even record something—perhaps his own origins, or secrets concerning him or other worlds. In short, he felt this was the only clue the woman in red had left him when she sent him to this world.
But he couldn't read them. What could he do? The blood-gold characters kept rotating, and he could neither understand nor see them clearly.
He shook his head helplessly. It seemed he needed to speed up his plans to join a sect and learn about this world. Jiang Xiaoxiao was a good candidate, but she was associated with the Blood Demon, and he knew that loose lips sink ships. Besides, Ye Wuya still wasn't certain if the Blood Demon was truly dead. He felt the nine Holy Lords of the Immortal Moon Holy Land were hiding something. Could the Blood Demon, the person most likely to become Emperor in ten thousand years, really die? Even with the inscriptions in the ancient tomb, Ye Wuya found it hard to believe.
He desperately needed knowledge about this world, and all of it!
Having finally killed Lu Li and obtained this coveted Qiankun bag, Ye Wuya decided to give it a try.
He held a Palm-Thunder Talisman in his palm, cleared his mind, and closed his eyes.
His internal condition was reflected in his consciousness: his veins were all severed, and the injuries from his flesh being torn apart had mostly healed. However, the severed veins meant he could no longer circulate spiritual power. The corpse-worm eggs in his fingers had gone dormant after his veins were severed and his dantian shattered, and even the Ice Spirit had not appeared. He didn't even know if that chubby little spirit was alive or dead. At the same time, the Mad Corpse Forbidden Arts had ceased to function, as if all of the Blood Demon's abilities had vanished.
Watching his battered internal state, Ye Wuya directed his divine sense toward his palm and struck the Palm-Thunder Talisman hard!
At the same time, Ye Wuya opened his eyes.
"Success!"
