Chapter Ninety-Four: The Old Monster of the Northern River
If this girl agreed, Ye Wuya would no longer have to worry about finances or safety for the time being. He could comfortably enjoy being kept while simultaneously fishing for the information he desired!
"Mm-hmm, alright, Senior."
The Saintess nodded and agreed. She knew that Ye Wuya, as a senior, would not make things difficult for a junior like her. On the contrary, she felt that by asking her to act as his muscle, Ye Wuya was actually aiming to train her practical combat abilities, only that as a senior, he had chosen a more roundabout way of saying it. Moreover, the Saintess felt that the senior had made it very clear: if they encountered an enemy whose cultivation far exceeded her own, Ye Wuya would personally intervene, and she only needed to ensure her own safety by staying far away.
Thinking this way, what reason did she have to refuse? If the Saintess knew Ye Wuya's true intentions, she would likely slap him to death. The two of them had their own separate agendas. Two of the three conditions had now been met; once the final one was achieved, Ye Wuya’s duo-team could be considered re-established. Previously, he had formed a team with that fat monk, but the moment trouble arose, the monk had bolted. Honestly, he should even be grateful to that fatty; otherwise, he might never have made it out of those ruins at all.
Seeing the Saintess nod in agreement, Ye Wuya quickly thought about the third condition. He had long since decided on the first two, but the third was a spur-of-the-moment idea he hadn't fully fleshed out. The Saintess waited quietly for Ye Wuya to state the third condition, not saying a word. A senior’s thoughts were hard to guess, and she couldn't be bothered to try.
"As for this third one!"
Ye Wuya paused, looking at the Saintess. Seeing him look her way, the Saintess grew tense. She felt the first two requests were just casual remarks from a senior, but this third one was likely his true demand.
"Senior, what is the third one?" After waiting for a long time without a response, the Saintess, driven by her own anxiety, found herself asking impulsively.
"This third one... well, I haven't quite decided yet, so let's leave it at that for now. I'll tell you when I think of it!"
Seeing that he had built up enough atmosphere, Ye Wuya knew when to stop. If he kept up the act, it would be pushing it a bit too far.
"Oh, I see!"
The Saintess let out a silent sigh of relief. She had worried he would make a request she couldn't fulfill. It seemed she had overthought it; she believed Senior Ye Wuya likely had no third request at all and was just doing this to help her relax so they could be more at ease together in the future.
"It seems this senior isn't as cold and heartless as the others..." the Saintess thought silently to herself. Without realizing it, the distance between her and Ye Wuya seemed to have narrowed.
"I am Ye Wuya. What is your name?" Seeing that the team conditions were mostly settled, Ye Wuya decided it was time to get to know her better. He introduced himself and asked.
"Oh, Senior Ye, my name is Jiang Xiaoxiao. You can just call me Xiaoxiao." Jiang Xiaoxiao said nervously at once. It had been so long, and she had forgotten to introduce herself, forcing Senior Ye to state his name first; in the world of cultivators, that was a grave sign of disrespect!
"Mm, Xiaoxiao, is it? You don't need to be so tense and restrained. I don't have that many rules here; just be yourself. Don't go bowing and scraping at every turn!" Ye Wuya said with a smile. It was intended to be a kind smile, but paired with the crisscrossing scars on his face, the effect changed entirely, making him look fierce and terrifying!
"Mm-hmm, alright, Senior, I understand!"
Although Jiang Xiaoxiao saw that Ye Wuya didn't mind or take offense, she still felt somewhat reserved and unable to let go. Ye Wuya didn't go out of his way to correct her; everything had a process of digestion. Given time, Jiang Xiaoxiao would no longer be so timid and constrained.
"Tell me your thoughts on this recent incident!" Ye Wuya picked up the blue longsword from the ground. This sword had been drawn to him by his own sword intent while he was condensing it in Ling City. Seeing that the blade possessed a certain spirituality, he had kept it by his side.
The Saintess naturally knew what incident he was referring to—it was undoubtedly the affair of the ruins. After considering it for a moment, she spoke.
"Regarding this incident, I believe it was a trap set by the Demon Race over a thousand years ago! It was aimed primarily at the Sacred Lands, the Ancient Clans, and the Divine Dynasty. Almost all the factions near the Yan Kingdom received word and arrived. The story about the Demon Empress’s place of rebirth was true, but the Demon Race had long since laid down a killing formation, and the swarming human cultivators simply became cannon fodder. It is just a pity that, aside from two individuals whose cultivation exceeded the Golden Core stage, everyone else was mere fodder. Furthermore, this killing formation hasn't even unleashed its full power, yet the cultivators inside have already been wiped out—including those two who were above the Golden Core stage.
"My view is that, despite drawing in ten thousand human cultivators, the Demon Race’s scheme still fell through, even with the Empress used as bait!" Jiang Xiaoxiao stated.
"Mm, anything else? Continue!" Ye Wuya said, noticing Jiang Xiaoxiao’s hesitation.
"Senior, I still feel a lingering fear. I never expected that Empress Xueqing, who inherited the Demon throne, would also arrive. Although her cultivation has yet to reach the Great Emperor level, it is still terrifyingly formidable! That spatial Dao technique of hers—there are few in this world who could contend with it," Jiang Xiaoxiao said with a sense of relief. "Senior, I know that the reason we were able to survive is partly because of you!"
Jiang Xiaoxiao thought back to the actions of Empress Xueqing at the time. She knew Senior Ye—not only did she know him, but she had even shed tears for him. Based on that alone, their relationship went beyond the ordinary.
Empress Xueqing? Ye Wuya felt an immense ache in his heart. He hadn't expected that Xueqing’s true identity was the ruler of the entire Demon Race! The gap between them was simply too vast, leaving Ye Wuya feeling hollow inside... When would he be able to stand at the same height as Xueqing and speak with her properly, rather than being dismissed with a casual word, powerless to resist?
Ye Wuya’s dim eyes gradually brightened. As long as he possessed the strength to stand at Xueqing’s height—the power to stand above all else—then everything, absolutely everything, could be explained!
Now, strength was Ye Wuya’s only pursuit!
"Xueqing is my wife," Ye Wuya said faintly, gently stroking the blue longsword in his hand.
"What!" Jiang Xiaoxiao’s jaw dropped in shock, as if she had heard the most earth-shattering secret of all time!
Empress Xueqing had a husband? Jiang Xiaoxiao simply couldn't believe it. The whole world knew that the one Xueqing loved was the Blood Demon Ancestor of their Immortal Moon Sacred Land! If this news were to spread, the entire Immortal Chant would surely be shaken to its core! And the one most enraged and furious would undoubtedly be the Old Monster of North River!
