Chapter Ninety-Three: Three Requests
The Saintess gazed at Night Without End. Though his features were nothing remarkable, the grandeur of his bearing left her staring blankly, entranced.
After a long while, Night Without End had waited so long that his neck had begun to ache from tilting upward, yet she still had not spoken. He angled his head slightly and gave her a sidelong glance, only to find her staring at him with a dazed, absent look.
A quiet cough escaped him, pulling the Saintess back from her reverie.
Only then did she realize she had been staring at a senior in a trance. Flustered and uneasy, she hurriedly avoided his gaze again and again.
“This little girl,” Night Without End thought with a smile and a shake of his head. Girls were girls in the end; it had nothing to do with cultivation level. In her eyes, he was some incomparably lofty expert, which was why she had become so shy.
He said nothing, and resumed his calm composure.
After fidgeting for a while, the Saintess seemed to steel herself. Gathering her courage, she looked directly at Night Without End with unwavering resolve and said, her red lips parting slightly, “Senior, this junior has an impertinent request. I hope Senior will agree to it.”
“Hm?”
Night Without End was left speechless. This script seemed to be heading in the wrong direction. He was only a counterfeit expert. If he could not even handle the request of this Saintess, who was only at the Golden Core stage, then what was he supposed to do? Agree or not?
“Ahem. Speak,” he said after a moment’s thought. After all, he did not even know what the request was yet; to refuse outright would be far too abrupt.
“This junior wishes to cultivate by Senior’s side for a period of time. I beg Senior to consent,” the Saintess said, inclining herself slightly and bowing to him.
Her own emotions were in turmoil as well. After her cheap master had taken her in, she had effectively been left to fend for herself. Everything she had learned had been self-taught. Aside from occasionally sparring with her in the beginning, her master had taught her nothing else.
No one else in the sacred land dared instruct her either. Of the other Holy Lords, she had seen her master only nine times in ten years of apprenticeship. Ever since she successfully condensed her Golden Core, her master had never appeared again. She had many doubts in cultivation, and the books alone could not possibly answer them all.
Such a wonderful opportunity was right before her. Naturally, she did not want to miss it.
After thinking it over and over again, she had finally made up her mind to say it aloud. Though she felt the chances of being rejected were extremely high, she still had to try her best.
Night Without End was also rapidly weighing the situation in his mind.
He had been in this world for half a year already, yet he still did not understand it deeply enough. There were many things he knew nothing about.
Now, a Saintess from a major sacred land stood before him. If he agreed, not only would he gain a powerful shield, he could also indirectly pry out many of the things he wanted to know. So long as he maintained the image of an expert senior, many problems would resolve themselves effortlessly, without even needing to be attacked head-on.
But there were also many hidden dangers. First, he could not defeat this Saintess. Second, his identity was rather sensitive. And the attitude of that Rakshasa demoness, Crescent Shadow Sorrow, was also intriguing. In such a bizarre and marvelous world, there was certainly no shortage of arts like tracking and locking on.
If he agreed, it would be like seeking tiger skin for a cloak.
If he refused, then learning about this world would take a tremendous amount of time.
He fell silent, thoughts flashing through his mind at blinding speed.
Seeing his silence, the Saintess also grew nervous, her heart pounding wildly.
After considering it repeatedly, Night Without End made his decision as well.
Cultivation was nothing less than struggling against heaven, struggling against earth, and struggling against men. As the saying went: knowing full well a mountain holds tigers, one still ventures toward the tiger mountain.
Looking at the Saintess’s anxious and uneasy expression, he said, “Mm, this matter...”
He deliberately drew out the last word, deliberately stirring her emotions.
The Saintess instantly tensed. He was finally about to make a decision. She quietly clenched her small fists.
“I agree.”
Night Without End felt the timing was about right and spoke at last.
“Senior, y-you really agreed?” the Saintess asked in utter disbelief, her face filled with surprise and delight.
“Do not rejoice too soon. I have conditions,” Night Without End said at once, striking while the iron was hot.
Looking at the excited Saintess, he immediately began to drive a hard bargain with all sorts of schemes.
“Please speak, Senior. So long as this junior can do it, I will agree to anything!”
The Saintess also calmed herself down and looked at Night Without End with full seriousness.
She also knew this senior would not deliberately make things difficult for her. The aura around Night Without End truly carried a calmness similar to her master’s; it was not the ferocity of someone who had just fought a battle. Since he was acquainted with her master, he was at least a person of the same caliber as her master, and should not trouble her too much. It was probably only some small matter.
“In that case, I have three demands. If you can do them, you may remain by my side and cultivate for a while,” Night Without End said, holding up three fingers.
“Please speak, Senior,” the Saintess answered earnestly.
“First, during the time you follow me, all expenses are yours.”
Night Without End thought about it and said so.
“Okay, Senior, I agree! As long as I can afford it, I’ll cover everything,” the Saintess promised, patting her chest.
The Moon-Immortal Sacred Land, the Moon-Immortal Tower—there was nothing it lacked except money. Looking at the entire Singing Immortal World, if one spoke of wealth, the Moon-Immortal Sacred Land dared to claim second place, and no one would dare claim first.
If the Moon-Immortal Sacred Land wished to ignite war across the eastern, southern, western, and northern wastelands, it would require only a single sentence. That was also why so many powers coveted the Moon-Immortal Sacred Land yet dared not strike openly.
In terms of both power and wealth, so long as the entire world of Singing Immortals did not rise together against them, they truly had nothing to fear from any single faction.
As the Saintess of the Moon-Immortal Sacred Land, she was also wealthy beyond measure. She was, without question, a genuine immortal second-generation rich girl.
“You must also provide the wine,” Night Without End added.
“Mm-hmm, of course,” the Saintess said with a nod.
Seeing her agree, Night Without End finally let out a quiet sigh of relief. The matter of wealth was settled for now. Next came the issue of personal safety.
“Second, you already know my situation. I generally cannot make a move. So if there are any small fry or minor pests, I’ll leave them to you. In simpler terms, during this period you must serve as my enforcer. Of course, if the opponent is far beyond your strength, I will take action personally, and you only need to stay as far away as possible.”
Night Without End raised a second finger as he spoke.
In this way, with the Saintess of the Moon-Immortal Sacred Land as his shield, he would basically no longer have to worry about matters of life and death.
After all, as the Saintess of the Moon-Immortal Sacred Land, anyone who wanted to make a move would have to weigh the consequences carefully.
If this girl agreed, then for the time being, Night Without End would not have to worry about wealth or safety. He could eat soft rice with peace of mind while also extracting the information he wanted to know.
