Chapter 119: None of Your Business
All of this was bestowed upon him by the blood-gold ancient characters!
Fortunately, he could see what was controllable. To catch a glimpse of the future, one must always pay a price. It is easy to know the heavens, but difficult to defy them. Without sufficient strength, even knowing what is to come does not guarantee one can change anything; thus, strength is the foundational necessity.
Ye Wuya felt a lingering tension regarding his sudden ability to foresee the future. These blood-gold characters had been transmitted to him by the woman in red, and what secrets they truly held, he could not say. Whether this was a blessing or a curse remained unknown.
Ye Wuya couldn't help but click his tongue. Looking at Jiang Xiaoxiao, he said, "I have just caught a glimpse of a thread of destiny."
Jiang Xiaoxiao smiled, an intrigued expression appearing on her face. "Does Master know how to tell fortunes?"
"No, no, no, this is not called fortune-telling; it is quite different from the methods of wandering charlatans," Ye Wuya said, shaking his head. "Fortune-telling relies on probability to offer you something ambiguous. I, however, can provide you with a much more accurate answer."
Seeing that the expression on Ye Wuya's face was not feigned, Jiang Xiaoxiao reined in her smile and listened seriously.
"I will tell you, but you must not tell anyone else," Ye Wuya said mysteriously. "Come closer."
Jiang Xiaoxiao did as she was told, only to hear half a sentence of crude gossip: "Their Vice Sect Master didn't wear anything today..."
Before he could finish, a terrifying surge of energy swept over, as if attempting to topple Ye Wuya.
Ye Wuya seemed to have been prepared. He gently stroked the coffin lid at his side, and a clear light radiated outward, neutralizing the invisible force. This was a new application he had recently developed; while he could not use the coffin lid to attack, it remained impenetrable by all methods.
"At your age, have you no shame, hiding outside and eavesdropping on others?" Ye Wuya turned his gaze toward the door, his voice cold.
"Hahaha, I—I was just dropping by for a visit, no need to be so tense."
"Fine, then I won't disturb you two further. Carry on with your chat," a young voice laughed heartily, after which silence returned.
Ye Wuya looked at the door once more with a meaningful gaze. It was exactly as he had foreseen; even the manner in which it had been damaged was identical.
Ye Wuya felt that once he retrieved the two women and made a trip to the Southern Wilds to find Xue Qing, and once everything had settled, he would truly go into the business of fortune-telling. As for the Blood Demon, becoming an immortal, or the nine Sages—none of that had anything to do with him!
He had already destroyed the Blood Demon's "inheritance." Whether the Blood Demon could be resurrected was unknown, but so far, there were no other omens. He had nipped all signs of the Blood Demon's revival in the bud; he would not give the creature any chance.
After seeing Jiang Xiaoxiao off, Ye Wuya realized that since he was now able to devour books, could he not use this vast Library Pavilion to thoroughly integrate himself into this Immortal Chant world? Books are the ladder of human progress; from them, he could at least understand the various regions of this world and even the customs and practices of the Yan Kingdom.
As for the idea that looking at maps was useless—would you stop learning geography just because you weren't going abroad?
Thinking of it, he did it. Ye Wuya walked slowly downstairs. Just as he emerged, he saw the door to the next room open. The Vice Sect Master stretched, looking at Ye Wuya with a faint, inscrutable smile.
"Starting to read?" the Vice Sect Master said with a grin. "You haven't stepped out of your door for days. I was beginning to suspect you were plotting something detrimental to our Qingyun Sect."
"None of your business!" Ye Wuya replied with a cold face. Ever since he had become addicted to playing the role of an inscrutable expert, he had become aloof.
"Hm? None of my business? What does that mean?" The Vice Sect Master scratched his head in confusion.
Ye Wuya ignored him completely and walked away.
The Vice Sect Master, long accustomed to such behavior, simply chuckled and followed behind him. Ye Wuya walked aimlessly. The vast Library Pavilion contained rare treasures, but Ye Wuya didn't care much for them. No matter how good, valuable, or numerous the treasures were, could they compare to Jiang Xiaoxiao's private stash?
Then there was that coffin lid. Ye Wuya had studied it for a few days; although he hadn't unlocked any new functions, the fact that its defense was invincible was enough for him to "act cool" without reservation. You may dislike me, but that only matters if you can actually land a hit on me!
The Library Pavilion was divided into seven floors and filled with texts, yet the number of disciples coming and going was pitifully small, as borrowing books required sect contribution points or similar assets.
After wandering around, he finally stopped in front of a narrow bookshelf, grabbed a chair, sat down, pulled out a book, and began to read intently.
The Vice Sect Master showed a look of utter surprise! Is he really here to read? If so, why go through all that trouble earlier?
He glanced at the label above: *Chronicles of the Yan Kingdom*. This recorded the customs, practices, and even secret affairs of the royal family of the Yan territory and the surrounding nations.
The Vice Sect Master paused, then pulled up a chair and sat beside Ye Wuya. He waved his hand gently in front of Ye Wuya's eyes, trying to test him, only to be slapped away by a firm, unyielding hand. It nearly made him tumble over. *Damn, he's got quite a bit of strength!*
"The Yan Kingdom? If there's anything you don't understand, just ask me," the Vice Sect Master said with a smile.
Ye Wuya didn't mind the Vice Sect Master's chatter. From the information Jiang Xiaoxiao had gathered recently, he already knew that this Vice Sect Master was the former sect leader who had retired behind the scenes. The title of Vice Sect Master was merely nominal, and he managed nothing. He was at least seventy or eighty years old.
In pursuit of the Heavenly Dao, he had never married, and for the past ten or twenty years, he had never left the Library Pavilion. Ye Wuya could sympathize with the pain of such a lonely old man. The solitude of long years, combined with watching peers die one after another—it had to be said, this was a tragedy.
How exactly did those ancient monsters who had lived for thousands or tens of thousands of years manage to survive? He supposed everyone had their own pursuits. Having seen so many public service announcements on Earth, Ye Wuya felt a deep, profound sympathy for the Vice Sect Master as a lonely elderly man.
It was just slightly awkward that he looked to be in his twenties. However, Ye Wuya was adapting to this; after all, he was playing the role of a big shot from six thousand years ago! He would likely encounter many such "ancient monsters" in the future who looked seventeen or eighteen but were actually hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of years old.
Ye Wuya didn't respond to him, merely continuing to read the book in his hands. He read with extreme speed, finishing a book in less than five minutes and clearly memorizing all its contents.
"This Yan territory is truly a small place!" Ye Wuya muttered to himself, his voice barely audible.
