Chapter 145 The Needle That Cannot Be Withdrawn
Junyang followed You Xiyue into the guest courtyard, casting a glance at her with every step he took.
Though You Xiyue felt his gaze, she chose to ignore it.
She pushed open the door to Wulan's room and walked straight inside.
At this moment, Wulan had not yet regained consciousness.
He lay on the bed with a pale complexion.
Seeing that face, identical to Song Bai's, You Xiyue tightened her grip on the demon-subduing needle again and again, yet still failed to bring herself to pierce him.
"Wait until he wakes up to stick him!"
You Xiyue shoved the tray into Junyang's hands and stormed out in a huff.
Junyang looked helplessly at the tray in his hands, then at Wulan lying on the bed, and let out a sigh.
Placing the tray on the table, he stuffed the other half of the Soul-Restoring Purple Pellet that Yan Qingye had given him into Wulan's mouth.
After cleaning Wulan's wounds and bandaging them properly, he walked out.
Junyang didn't really believe that You Xiyue would show mercy simply because of that strikingly similar face.
Judging by the scene just now, You Xiyue must have had a very deep bond with Song Bai.
Therefore, Song Yu, who was Song Bai's twin brother—in other words, Wulan—must have also been very close to You Xiyue in the past.
However, Junyang simply couldn't fathom why Song Yu, as an elder biological brother, would inflict such ruthless and vicious methods upon his own sister.
Could there really be such deep hatred between biological siblings?
Back in the inner courtyard, You Xiyue sat on the covered walkway, staring blankly at her own bedroom.
From inside the bedroom came the intermittent murmurs of Song Bai in her sleep, accompanied by Yan Qingye's flustered and hurried soothing voice.
Yan Qingye cared for her with meticulous attention, knowing that she was someone of great importance to their little master.
Yet, there were still far too many wounds; with the slightest movement, blood would seep through the bandages.
He had no choice but to continuously apply fresh medicine and clean the area.
His task was no easier than that of Lan Shi and Yun Jianxin, who had fought bitterly for ten hours.
Yun Jianxin rose before Lan Shi and, upon coming to the courtyard, saw You Xiyue lost in thought alongside Junyang standing nearby.
"Little Senior, Senior Junyang."
Yun Jianxin stepped forward and greeted them.
You Xiyue did not move an inch, lost in her own thoughts.
"Awake?" Junyang asked with a smile.
Yun Jianxin nodded, pointing a finger toward You Xiyue's bedroom. "I'm going to check on that patient in the room."
"Go ahead," Junyang replied.
Yun Jianxin pushed the door open and stepped inside, where he saw Yan Qingye tending to the patient.
"When did you get back?" Yun Jianxin asked curiously.
Yan Qingye turned his head, feeling as though he hadn't seen Yun Jianxin in ages. "Probably right after you and Senior Lan Shi finished the treatment?"
"Ah, I see."
"Yeah, I never expected so many things to happen in the Immortal Realm in just a few days."
Yun Jianxin chimed in, "Indeed. Because a major figure arrived, the Immortal Realm feels completely overturned. There's ice and snow everywhere now."
Yan Qingye stood up, making room for Yun Jianxin. "You participated in the treatment alongside Lord Lan Shi, so you should understand her condition better than I do. You should examine her."
"Alright."
Yun Jianxin stepped forward and carefully inspected Song Bai's wounds.
Just as he was about to stand up, Song Bai, caught in a nightmare, raised her hand and slapped him right across the face.
The sound of the slap was exceptionally crisp.
Yun Jianxin and Yan Qingye were both left frozen in a daze.
"Pfft."
Yan Qingye was the first to burst out laughing. "You really have it bad."
Yun Jianxin turned his head and rubbed his cheek. "You're still laughing? It hurts like hell! Fortunately, she was heavily injured and lacked strength, otherwise I'd be the third person lying in bed unable to get up."
"Was it really that hard?" Yan Qingye asked, suppressing a smile.
"Why don't you try it?" Yun Jianxin restrained Song Bai's flailing arms and resumed his examination. "This woman's bloodline, cultivation, and endurance must all be top-tier."
Yan Qingye gave Yun Jianxin a strange look. "You've only treated her for a day, and you're already holding her in such high regard?"
"I'm just stating facts."
After finishing the examination and confirming that the wounds had not worsened, Yun Jianxin let out a relieved breath and released Song Bai's arm. He pulled Yan Qingye over to sit on a nearby chair. "You probably didn't see her while she was fully conscious, watching Lord Lan Shi pull out those demon-subduing needles."
Yan Qingye listened intently, occasionally glancing at Song Bai for any movement.
With lingering admiration, Yun Jianxin continued, "Given her wounds, you should know how agonizing it must have been to pull those needles out. Yet she didn't even cry out; she simply endured it the entire time."
"Is that so?" Yan Qingye felt a surge of respect upon hearing this.
"You would definitely be shaken if you had seen it."
Even after having a full night's sleep, Yun Jianxin still felt as though the scene of the needle extraction was vividly etched in his mind.
Not long after, Lan Shi also got up.
Knowing that Yun Jianxin and Yan Qingye were taking care of the patient, she didn't go to Song Bai's room, but instead went to find You Xiyue.
Arriving at the covered walkway, Lan Shi sat down opposite You Xiyue.
"Those two demon-subduing needles in that girl's body probably cannot be removed."
You Xiyue snapped back to her senses, looked at Lan Shi, and listened attentively.
Lan Shi continued, "One is located in her brain, embedded quite deeply. If extracted, she might lose her wits and become mentally impaired. The other has pierced her heart; although it isn't deep, removing it would trigger massive hemorrhaging and prove fatal."
You Xiyue lowered her gaze and contemplated for a moment. "Then we won't remove them for now."
Lan Shi also agreed that leaving them alone for the time being was the safest course of action, but carrying two life-threatening needles in one's body certainly made movement difficult.
"I wonder if there is any way to refine and dissolve those demon-subduing needles."
Lan Shi leaned against the railing of the walkway, searching her memory.
"A way to refine the demon-subduing needles?"
You Xiyue joined in the thought process, suddenly looking up to ask, "Would the Demon Clan happen to have a way?"
Lan Shi looked up in surprise. "Those demon-subduing needles were designed specifically to deal with the Demon Clan. Perhaps they really do have a method."
"Is that so?" You Xiyue's eyes flickered, and she fell silent once more.
Lan Shi gave You Xiyue a puzzled look, unable to read what she was thinking.
Under the meticulous care of Yan Qingye and Yun Jianxin, Song Bai's wounds continued to heal exceptionally well.
And finally, on the third day, Song Bai regained consciousness.
Hearing that Song Bai had woken up, Lan Shi rushed over first.
"How are you feeling now? Can you endure another needle extraction process?"
When Lan Shi asked this, she was genuinely worried. However, since the process had already begun, it was better to clear away these obnoxious demon-subduing needles as quickly as possible. Every extra day meant an extra layer of danger.
Song Bai's complexion remained as white as snow, almost translucent, as the corners of her lips curved upward. "Don't worry. I managed to endure it last time, and I can endure it this time as well. Having finally seen my little master, I'm not willing to die so easily."
In the past, Lan Shi might have envied You Xiyue's contracted beasts or disciples for possessing vast amounts of rare resources.
It wasn't until she met Song Bai that she suddenly found herself envying You Xiyue.
To possess such a fiercely loyal friend must also be a great blessing, right?
"Alright, then you must hold on a little longer."
Lan Shi smiled at Song Bai as well. "I'll try to be as quick as possible to spare you from too much torment."
"Thank you."
Song Bai offered a pale smile.
Yan Qingye and Yun Jianxin stood behind them, exchanging glances.
Once all the treatment tools were prepared, Yun Jianxin once again served as Lan Shi's assistant.
Having cooperated once before, things went much more smoothly.
Yan Qingye stood guard in the background, ready to assist at a moment's notice.
You Xiyue lingered at the doorway for a brief moment before turning around and walking away.
Junyang quickly gave chase. "Little Ancestor, surely you aren't planning to go to the Demon Realm, are you?"
