Chapter 119: The Frustrated Fan Wuwei
Jun Yang curled the corner of his mouth; it was obvious the item had been pilfered, but he didn't expose her, choosing instead to watch quietly.
You Xiyue glanced at the Manifestation Stele, then at Fan Lihua. She couldn't very well take it for nothing.
"What is it that you want?"
Fan Lihua nervously rubbed her hands together, looked up at You Xiyue, and then quickly lowered her head again.
"I... I just want to... to be your contracted beast."
"..."
Jun Yang turned his head to look at You Xiyue, then glared at Fan Lihua.
"Do you understand what being a contracted beast entails?" You Xiyue asked.
Fan Lihua nodded vigorously. "I know, I do. It means whatever you say, I shall do."
You Xiyue smiled faintly and shook her head. "It means if I die, you cannot live."
"I am willing even then." Fan Lihua took a firm step forward. "Little Goddess, please take me in."
You Xiyue looked at her seriously. "Are you sure? Have you discussed this with your family?"
"There is no need to discuss it with them. The rule of our Candle Dragon clan has always been that we make our own decisions."
Jun Yang twitched his lips; he hadn't known the Candle Dragon clan had such a rule.
"Make it clear to your ancestors, then come back to find me. Let Jun Yang accompany you."
"Yes, yes, yes!" Upon hearing You Xiyue’s consent, Fan Lihua clenched her fists in excitement, nearly jumping for joy. She rushed to Jun Yang’s side and dragged him toward the Candle Dragon clan’s territory.
As they walked, she complained, "Can you hurry up?"
Jun Yang irritably swatted her hand away. "You have no manners at all. I am, after all, of your ancestor’s generation."
Fan Lihua muttered under her breath, "Since we are both going to be contracted beasts to the same person, we are clearly of the same generation now."
"..."
Although she spoke softly, Jun Yang heard her clearly, and his irritation only grew. Does your family calculate seniority like that?
The two walked toward the Candle Dragon clan.
You Xiyue wrapped up the Manifestation Stele and summoned the Moonfluorescence Sword. She then placed the bundle onto the blade.
"Deliver this to the Light Domain Sanctuary. Go quickly and return at once."
No sooner had she spoken than the Moonfluorescence Sword vanished from the Teng Snake clan’s cave dwelling in the blink of an eye.
At that moment, Fan Wuwei was in the main hall of the Candle Dragon clan, with Qing Yushan sitting opposite him.
Because the juniors of the Azure Dragon clan had heard that the Candle Dragon ancestor, Fan Wuwei, had once won a Bagua Dao artifact at an auction, Qing Yushan had rushed to the Candle Dragon clan to discuss the matter with him.
To his frustration, Fan Wuwei had absolutely no memory of the artifact, and the Candle Dragon clan’s treasury didn't even keep a ledger. It was truly infuriating.
"You must send someone to find it for me immediately!" Qing Yushan was as anxious as if his house were on fire.
Fan Wuwei rarely saw Qing Yushan in such a state. This old fellow had always been calm and collected, appearing to have everything under control. Seeing him like this was quite satisfying.
"Why are you in such a rush to get that thing? The Teng Snake clan seems to be looking for it, too."
Qing Yushan secretly rolled his eyes at Fan Wuwei. If it weren't for this meddlesome old Candle Dragon fellow joining the hunt, would the Holy Realm be in such chaos? He didn't even know why he was looking for it; he was just blindly interfering.
"Jun Yang’s 'little ancestor' wants it, and Jun Yang is willing to trade the Ancient Azure Dragon Sword with me for it." Although Qing Yushan was grumbling internally about Fan Wuwei, he told the truth.
"That old guy is willing to trade the Ancient Azure Dragon Sword for that Bagua Dao artifact??" Fan Wuwei jumped to his feet, then gave a cunning smile and leaned toward Qing Yushan.
"Then what will you trade with me?"
Qing Yushan narrowed his eyes; the expression on this old Candle Dragon fellow was far from simple. "What do you want?"
Fan Wuwei chuckled. "What do you think the Ancient Azure Dragon Sword is worth?"
Qing Yushan glared at him, and just as he was about to haggle, he heard footsteps outside. Jun Yang walked in, followed by Fan Lihua.
"Are you plotting to get your hands on my Ancient Azure Dragon Sword?"
Jun Yang was already in a foul mood, and his expression looked extremely dangerous. Fan Wuwei immediately wilted and took two steps back.
"I wasn't plotting against your sword."
"Weren't you going to use the Ancient Azure Dragon Sword to trade with me for the Bagua Dao artifact?" Qing Yushan asked, looking up.
Jun Yang sat down slowly beside Qing Yushan and poured himself a cup of tea.
"I'm not trading anymore."
"Why?" Qing Yushan frowned.
Jun Yang shrugged. "Because someone has already found it for the little ancestor."
As he said this, Jun Yang glanced at Fan Lihua.
"..."
Fan Lihua felt as if two gazes were about to pierce right through her. She smiled awkwardly and lowered her head.
"Heh."
Jun Yang sneered. Didn't she say a moment ago they were of the same generation? Are they still the same generation now?
Fan Wuwei approached Fan Lihua and asked in a low voice, "Where did you get that Bagua Dao artifact?"
"..." Fan Lihua lowered her head even further. "I was looking for a gift... and I stumbled upon it... I thought it looked quite nice..."
"What???!?" Fan Wuwei’s blood pressure spiked. He pointed at Fan Lihua and shouted, "You rummaged through our family treasury?"
"…Yes, it was quite easy to find, right near the entrance." Fan Lihua’s eyes darted elsewhere.
Fan Wuwei slapped his forehead hard. This was a rare opportunity to bully Jun Yang and Qing Yushan!
"You, you... you are truly..." Fan Wuwei pointed his finger for a long time, unable to find the words.
"Generous," Jun Yang added, enjoying the spectacle.
"..."
Fan Lihua gritted her teeth. She still had something to say, but in this situation, it was truly difficult to bring it up.
Qing Yushan, however, let go of the matter quickly. What else could he do? It wasn't his own junior. It seemed the Azure Dragon clan had truly lost their chance at that sword.
"Go to the ancestral hall and kneel as punishment for half a month!" Fan Wuwei was furious.
Fan Lihua, however, wouldn't have it. If she missed today, what if the Little Goddess changed her mind?
"I won't go! I am going to be the Little Goddess's contracted beast. I came to say goodbye."
"What did you say?!"
Fan Wuwei hadn't even recovered from his previous anger, and now he felt even more stifled.
Jun Yang raised an eyebrow, admiring Fan Lihua’s courage; she still dared to say it in such a situation.
"You are a young lady of the Candle Dragon clan, and you want to run off to be a contracted beast!"
Fan Lihua had given up all caution and was no longer afraid of Fan Wuwei. "Even the ancestor of the Teng Snake clan can do it, why can't I?"
"..."
Fan Wuwei was speechless, frozen in place.
Fan Lihua took the opportunity to flee, terrified of being caught and locked up at home.
If he weren't physically robust, Fan Wuwei felt he might have collapsed from anger. Jun Yang shrugged at Qing Yushan. With Fan Lihua gone, there was nothing left for him to do here.
He patted Qing Yushan on the shoulder. "You should try to persuade him. I'm leaving."
Jun Yang turned and walked out. Qing Yushan stood up as well, casting a look of disdain at Fan Wuwei.
"You really should manage your juniors better."
After saying that, he also left.
"..."
With everyone gone, Fan Wuwei was left to stew in his frustration. Finally, unable to bear it, he summoned Fan Lihua’s father, Fan Zhujiu, and gave him a thorough dressing-down.
