Chapter 67: Han Mumu
After washing the dishes and taking a shower, the two of them sat in front of the computer to start gaming.
As Bai Renzong played, he was already making plans in his mind: when he started streaming in the future, he’d call Han Jiayi over, and the two of them would game live together.
“Why can you draw marks on your map, but I can’t?” Han Jiayi raised her little hand and pointed to his screen.
“Because my character has a ballpoint pen in his inventory,” Bai Renzong replied.
“That’s possible?!” Han Jiayi exclaimed, her beautiful eyes round with surprise.
“This game is all about details. Just use common sense,” Bai Renzong said calmly. “For example, you need an axe to chop wood, a shovel to dig, a pipe wrench to connect water pipes… Oh, remind me to look for a pipe wrench later. Then we can connect the washing machine and the faucet, and won’t have to wash clothes by hand anymore.”
“But isn’t the water supply cut off?” Han Jiayi blinked curiously.
“Just connect the pipe to the rainwater collection tank and you’ll have water. That’s why I need to get a pipe wrench,” Bai Renzong explained.
“This game is so interesting.” Han Jiayi pursed her lips in a smile and tossed him a pie in the game. “I’ll stay home and cook, you take this pie with you and eat it when you’re out.”
“Is it nutritious?” Bai Renzong asked.
“Fat, carbohydrates, protein, vitamins—it’s all there. Don’t worry and eat up. Be quick, okay?” Han Jiayi replied confidently.
“Alright. While I’m out, tidy up the supplies at home. Put similar items in the same box,” Bai Renzong instructed.
They played with such joy and abandon that everything else, including time, faded into the background.
When they finally came back to their senses, it was already past eleven.
“It finally feels like a home now.” Han Jiayi stretched with a little hum, “Mmm—!”
The hem of her shirt lifted, revealing a beautiful curve of her waist. Bai Renzong admired it for a moment, then continued, “Tomorrow, let’s get some seeds and soil. We can set up a little garden on the balcony, plant potatoes, tomatoes, and strawberries. Then we’ll never run out of food.”
“What about meat?” Han Jiayi turned to look at him. “Without meat, there’s no protein or fat.”
“No worries, we can get some vegetable oil for cooking—plenty of fat there. As for protein, we can fish or set traps for small animals. That way, our home will really be complete,” Bai Renzong explained.
“Oh, alright.” Han Jiayi yawned as she spoke, and seeing her yawn, Bai Renzong couldn’t help but yawn as well.
“Hehe.” Han Jiayi giggled, waved at him, and said, “I’m off to bed. Good night.”
“Alright…” Bai Renzong’s eyes were feeling dry too. “Let’s keep it up tomorrow. Once the video is posted, you might get really busy for a few days.”
“No problem!” Han Jiayi raised her slender arm, showing a soft line of muscle.
“Good night,” Bai Renzong said at last, then closed his door.
After Han Jiayi returned to her room, Bai Renzong received the edited video from He Guang.
He sat at his computer, hesitating for a long time, unsure whether to upload it. Once it was posted, the restaurant’s customers would surge, and Han Jiayi would undoubtedly be even more exhausted.
Could such a petite, delicate girl really bear that pressure?
In the end, he chose to trust her and clicked “Upload Video.”
“Do your best, Jiayi,” Bai Renzong whispered to himself. “You can do it…”
The next morning, Bai Renzong was still asleep in bed when a shriek from the living room startled him awake.
“What’s wrong?!” He rushed to the top of the stairs in alarm.
“What’s with the bloopers at the end of your video?!” Han Jiayi demanded furiously from downstairs, waving her phone at him.
Bai Renzong was silent for a moment, pretended he was still half asleep, and replied, “Xiaobei sent it to me. I just added it in. I thought you’d agreed to it.”
“How could I possibly agree to that?!” Han Jiayi was both angry and embarrassed, covering her face in despair. “It’s ruined! There’s no saving it now!”
She was still sulking over breakfast.
“Oh, come on, what’s the big deal? People like the real you even more.” Bai Renzong tried to comfort her. “Look, these comments—‘Jiayi is so cute, like a little girl,’ ‘I really want to pat her head,’ ‘She’s being sweet to Old Bai, so adorable.’”
“You dare say another word?!” Han Jiayi glared at him with murderous eyes, then turned to Wang Bei.
At that moment, a well-timed knock sounded at the door. Wang Bei immediately stood up, “I’ll get it! You two sit.”
She glanced through the peephole, then called back, “Old Bai, your brother-in-law is here!”
Han Xu entered with a smile and greeted them, “Morning.”
“You brat! What did you just say?!” Han Jiayi pinched Wang Bei’s ear in fury.
“My bad, my bad!” Wang Bei covered her ear, grimacing. “I meant brother-in-law!”
“Ugh!” Han Jiayi widened her eyes and slapped Wang Bei’s backside. “I see you’re asking for trouble!”
“Seeing you all living together so harmoniously puts my mind at ease,” Han Xu said as he sat down at the table. Looking at the porridge before him, he smiled, “Mumu, give your brother a bowl too.”
“No, you, don’t, get, any!” Han Jiayi gritted her teeth, glaring at Han Xu.
“Mumu?” Bai Renzong raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
“Oh, that’s her nickname,” Han Xu explained with a chuckle. “She was a bit slow as a child. Once, when we were back in our hometown, a fruit fell from a tree and hit her on the head. She stood there for five seconds before crying, and all the relatives burst out laughing. So my second uncle started—”
Before he could finish, Han Jiayi landed an elbow in his side and snapped, “What are you doing here, anyway?!”
“I… I came to check on you…” Han Xu said, clutching his side. “Even if Xing introduced you, he’s still a stranger. As your brother, I had to come see how you’re doing here.”
“Then don’t say anything unnecessary!” Han Jiayi put a bowl of porridge in front of him threateningly.
“This girl…” Han Xu shook his head helplessly, then turned to Bai Renzong with a smile. “Sorry for the trouble my sister’s caused you. Once she finds a new place, I’ll have her move out.”
“Oh, that’s not necessary,” Bai Renzong replied with a smile. “We’re working together on a studio project now, so it’s more convenient to live together.” He then teased Han Jiayi, “Right, Mumu?”
“Ugh…” Han Jiayi’s face turned bright red. She scooped up a large spoonful of porridge and shot Bai Renzong a “You’d better remember this, White the Troll!” glare.
Bai Renzong just propped his chin on his hand and smiled back with a look that said, “Oh? So you can call me White the Troll, but I can’t call you Han Mumu?”
“Oh, I think Xing mentioned that to me,” Han Xu suddenly recalled. “That’s even better—saves her the trouble of finding a new place. I’ll knock a thousand off your monthly rent, then.”
“That’s not necessary…” Bai Renzong replied. “Jiayi cooks for me every day.”
“No wonder you’ve gained some weight,” Han Xu laughed.
“Pfft…” Han Jiayi giggled behind her hand, while Bai Renzong looked as if he’d been struck by lightning. “I’ll… I’ll go to the gym this afternoon…”
“Hey, what’s your D-Station ID?” Han Xu asked curiously, pulling out his phone. “Let me have a look.”
“‘Old Bai丶,’” Han Jiayi answered cheerfully.
Han Xu froze in place. “You’re Old Bai?! The UP with the sky-high popularity index?!”
“Huh? Sky-high popularity index?” Bai Renzong was completely baffled.
