Chapter 134: The Dance God Has an Attitude
The Xuanwu Pavilion was abuzz with activity, the atmosphere electric and charged. All eyes were fixed on Le Xiaotian, the man who had just shattered the world record.
*Click, click!*
On the track, dozens of reporters were snapping photos incessantly, while others, microphones held high, pushed their way toward him. Among them, a well-dressed beauty posed the first question: "Mr. Le, how did you manage to run a hundred meters in two seconds?"
He stopped, offering a modest smile. "Don't misunderstand; it was five seconds. The first three were for buildup. Without that buildup, how could a lowly martial artist like me break a speed of fifty meters per second? Wouldn't you agree?"
A white-haired reporter raised his voice: "Mr. Le, would you care to share your secret?"
Le Xiaotian’s expression darkened intentionally. Clenching his right fist, he said with a sanctimonious air, "How could there be a secret to success? If you must know, it is something we all know. Tell me, what is the 'Human Jade of Music'?"
Dozens of reporters replied in unison: "The Human Jade of Music is for those who excel at learning, using it to emulate the path. First comes the desire to learn, then the learning itself; to become a true human, one must first love to learn."
Le Xiaotian took the floor, appearing moved. "Exactly. As a mortal among the countless branches of the Human Race within the Twelve Great Clans, I rely on my love for learning. I do not worship success as a god, nor do I seek fame, fortune, or glory. I only wish to dance and make music."
He pointed to a jagged scar on his right knee. After waiting for the crowd to take note, he lifted his head proudly, his expression solemn. "No matter what difficulties I face, I will never give up, because I know the only thing that will never abandon me is the Art of Music. She has always been by my side. As long as I can sing, dance, and play, success, fame, and glory will follow!"
Sensing the arrogance in his words, the people around him felt a surge of emotion. They understood this truth as well: if the Art of Music did not exist, the world would not exist. If relatives could betray you, if fame and fortune could change hands, and if all things in heaven and earth were in constant flux, then only the Art of Music remained constant. She could encompass all life. She was the ultimate, all-encompassing ocean; to her, gods and demons were but tiny ripples, and the universe merely a bubble. She was the Mother Goddess of all, and one of her synonyms was Nature itself. All beliefs, emotions, and intellect were born from her. All things were but notes in this great symphony, known as the Music of Heaven. She was her own conductor.
Seeing the recognition in their eyes, Le Xiaotian smiled. "Alright, I have a performance coming up. Please, make way."
How could the reporters, finally snapped back to reality, let this opportunity slip? A red-haired reporter asked, "Mr. Le, can you talk about why you aren't representing the Fama Kingdom, but are competing as an individual? Is there some inside story?"
Le Xiaotian took a step forward, shooting the reporter a stern look. "I am about to perform. Don't talk to me about these unpleasant things right now. Do you understand?"
This shift in attitude only fueled the reporters' curiosity. The white-haired man seized the chance, interjecting, "Tell us, did you offend the top officials of the Fama Kingdom? Are they incompetent and blind? Or did something major happen during the national closure last year?"
Just as they waited for an answer, they were shocked by what happened next. Le Xiaotian snatched the microphone from the white-haired reporter and slammed it onto the ground. "Damn it, can't you hear what I'm saying? I am about to perform! I am about to perform! Damn it!"
A deathly silence fell over the area; one could hear a pin drop. When Le Xiaotian walked past them, these reporters, possessing a tenacious professional drive, swarmed him again. They were not afraid of death. The beauty from before reminded him, "Mr. Le, this is being broadcast globally," though whether it was a well-meaning reminder or a threat remained unclear.
Stopping once more, Le Xiaotian’s voice was deathly low. "You really don't understand human language, do you? A live broadcast? Come on, if anyone here has the guts, try asking me one more time. If I don't beat you until you cough up blood while live on air, my name isn't Le Xiaotian!"
Stunned! Shocked! Dumbfounded!
Dozens of reporters were collectively bewildered; thousands of viewers behind their screens were collectively stunned! No one expected his face to change so quickly. More importantly, he knew it was a live broadcast. What kind of arrogance allowed him to make such threats under these circumstances? Where was his decorum? Where was his class?
Soon, the people in the Xuanwu Pavilion were equally bewildered, having noticed the commotion. Le Xiaotian, however, didn't blush or lose his breath, walking naturally toward the backstage area. He had a show to put on!
Watching his retreating figure in the renewed silence, not a single reporter dared to approach. They were truly afraid; if they were beaten to the point of bleeding here, it would be a massive loss of face! The Xuanwu Pavilion was like a giant coliseum with many exits. Finding the nearest one, Le Xiaotian vanished from their sight.
Once he was gone, the pavilion erupted. Everyone was talking about Le Xiaotian. His temper was simply too explosive!
Twenty minutes later, in the performer waiting area—a building with eighty large rooms and a long, wide corridor—Le Xiaotian, having changed his clothes, appeared at a corner. The corridor was packed with people sitting and squatting. They were all excited and nervous, as this was a performance for an audience of millions. Those qualified to stand here were elites from various factions or somewhat famous troupes. Unlike the general auditions, there were almost no solo acts here. They were either small bands or accompanied by agents, assistants, or friends. The only person alone was the newly arrived Le Xiaotian.
Surveying the rowdy scene, Le Xiaotian looked displeased. "The efficiency is terrible. Do I have to wait for another few hours?"
Initially, Le Xiaotian hadn't attracted much attention, as the performers here were unaware of the earlier outburst. However, his complaining drew mockery from several people. "Where are you from, buddy? Do you think this is a bar? This is the stage of the All-Polar Tournament, you know? Just wait your turn."
"Heh." For these already nervous performers, laughter felt like a release.
However, the Grand Dance God conductor, Le Xiaotian, was not amused. He walked, with some difficulty, to the front of the red-clad youth who had laughed the loudest. "Is the stage of the All-Polar Tournament so impressive? Because you see me here alone, do you think I’m unqualified?"
Le Xiaotian’s tone was grating. The youth in red naturally refused to yield, gesturing for his friends to back him up. "So what if I think you're unqualified? Everyone open your eyes and look—does anyone know this guy? Ha, I certainly don't."
"Ha, I don't know him either."
"Never seen him."
"Probably walked into the wrong place, right?"
"Haha."
For these performers, the All-Polar Tournament was a supreme honor, and the stage opportunity was incredibly precious. Le Xiaotian’s "Dance God" attitude had offended quite a few people. Plus, he was a stranger, and since he had no one with him, they were certain he was just an unknown, small-time singer.
Pulling a bank card from his pocket, Le Xiaotian acted with extreme arrogance. "I'll give you a chance at glory. Let's compete to see whose performance can move the audience more. There is one million Dance Credits here. Come on, come on."
The atmosphere in the corridor shifted instantly. The performers' interest in the drama peaked. However, the youth in red hadn't expected this move. His companion spoke up, "Turns out he's a rich kid. But talent in singing and dancing can't be bought with money, heh."
Listening to the boy’s retort, the performers smiled in satisfaction.
Putting the card away, Le Xiaotian said with disdain, "I just wanted to tell you: young man, if you have no talent, don't act like a sanitary napkin. If you want to compete with me in arrogance, you're a hundred and eight thousand miles behind."
"What did you say?!" The youth in red was furious, and he seemed on the verge of throwing a punch.
Le Xiaotian’s expression grew more contemptuous. He pointed to his right cheek and shouted, "If you want to fight, come on! Hit me right here! Do you dare?"
The charging youth was instantly pulled back. He heard several roars in his ear: "Don't be impulsive! Fighting could get us disqualified from the tournament."
Forced to pull back his fist, the youth still threw out a threat: "I suggest you drop out and just watch from the audience. I’ll show you what a future superstar's strength looks like."
"Ha, you? A superstar? You’re killing me. But not bad—teasing you youngsters, this feeling is quite nice." With a hearty laugh, Le Xiaotian shot a razor-sharp glare at the performers on the bench nearby.
Facing that look, and having witnessed his previous unreasonable behavior, many performers chose to accept their bad luck and left the seats they had fought so hard to secure. Many even looked at him with disgust, as if avoiding the plague.
Casually swiping a music score from a performer and tossing it onto the bench, Le Xiaotian sat down. "Looking at it now, is it any use? I suggest you all go home and wash up for bed. Soon, the audience will be mine; you lot have no chance."
"Tch!" A chorus of jeers echoed through the corridor.
Le Xiaotian took out his audio-visual device to kill the boredom. Time seemed endless to him now. Just as he was about to lose his temper again, a staff member appeared, calling his name.
"Le Xiaotian, Le Xiaotian."
"I heard you. What kind of vision do you have? Can't you see a person as dazzling as me? Do you know how precious my time is?"
What was going on? The staff member was dumbfounded. He then looked annoyed. What kind of airs was this kid putting on? Just as the other performers were ready to watch Le Xiaotian make a fool of himself, the staff member swallowed his anger. "It’s your turn to perform. I’m telling you to get ready."
Standing up and cracking his neck, Le Xiaotian threw his trench coat aside. He said seriously, "Lead the way."
