Chapter 80: The Righteous Mob
“Crack! Crack!”
The Mutant Wanderer felt a sudden sharp pain in its body.
Looking down, its skull saw several arrows lodged in its skeletal frame.
Those prey ahead must have done this!
Its limited intelligence allowed it to grasp only that much.
The Mutant Wanderer could not speak, and could only express its rage through the clatter of its bones.
“Get down!”
Seeing the Mutant Wanderer raise the massive repeating crossbow on its arm, Mo Fangyuan instantly knew the creature was about to attack.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
He vaguely recalled that the Mutant Skeleton’s normal attack was a triple shot, each arrow imbued with poison, exhaustion, and slow—three negative effects—and it seemed this Mutant Wanderer was no different.
But the arrows it fired also carried blue particle effects; Mo Fangyuan surmised it must possess some ice-related abilities as well.
Those three arrows with blue particles struck the stone bricks with force.
With a bang, the stone blocks immediately shattered into debris.
Unable to join the fight directly, the melee warriors now found their purpose: they grabbed stone blocks and began patching the damaged wall.
“Thud, thud, thud!”
After a bout of hammering, the stone brick wall was renewed once more.
“Crack! Crack!”
The Mutant Wanderer became furious upon seeing its handiwork destroyed so easily, launching another attack.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Taking advantage of the reload interval, the ranged warriors swiftly landed a few more arrows into the Mutant Wanderer.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
“Bang…”
Thus, the group found themselves locked in a bizarre exchange of fire with this brainless Mutant Wanderer—one shot from them, one from it.
The field army had no other choice; a direct confrontation would lead to heavy casualties, so they could only fight this way, peeking and shooting.
Why the Mutant Wanderer chose to duel them so mindlessly remained a mystery.
Another intense volley followed, and the Mutant Wanderer was now bristling with over a dozen arrows, looking like a hedgehog, while Mo Fangyuan’s side had lost only a few stone blocks.
“Everyone, be on guard! It’s about to unleash its ultimate!”
Seeing the Mutant Wanderer lift its repeating crossbow overhead, Mo Fangyuan, “Expert in Mutant Creatures”, immediately knew what it intended.
“Melee fighters, use your hooks—don’t let it jump!”
The Mutant Skeleton’s strongest skill was to leap into the air and rain arrows upon targets below, and this Mutant Wanderer seemed much the same.
When the Mutant Skeleton used its “ultimate”, the damage was immense—one careless moment could spell instant death.
“Understood!”
The four melee warriors swiftly swapped their iron arrows for fishing rods.
“Hiss—”
All four fishing rods successfully hooked onto the Mutant Wanderer’s skeleton.
Yet the creature’s tremendous strength nearly dragged the four warriors, straining against their rods, into the air with it.
“How is it so strong? Isn’t it supposed to be an archer?”
Xiao Li was still shaken; he had almost experienced “the thrill of flying” himself.
Of course, their efforts were not in vain.
The Mutant Wanderer was forcibly pulled down from the air, its skill interrupted.
What was happening? Skills could be interrupted?
Its low intelligence could not comprehend, and the monster froze mid-action.
A golden opportunity!
The field army’s ranged fighters did not let it slip by, raising their crossbows and firing at the Mutant Wanderer.
“Bang bang bang!”
Another three arrows.
New wounds appeared on its three-block-high body.
Its chest was riddled with arrows—had it been an ordinary wanderer, it would have died many times over.
Reloading its arrows.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Another fierce barrage.
“Crack! Crack!”
The Mutant Wanderer’s instincts screamed that it could not take much more.
As the field army’s relentless shooting continued, the fear of death took over.
“It’s almost finished!”
Seeing the once arrogant Mutant Wanderer now trying to retreat, everyone realized its plight.
Strike while the iron’s hot!
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
The melee warriors pulled with all their strength on the fishing rods, preventing its retreat, while the ranged fighters pressed in harder.
“Crack! Crack!”
The Mutant Wanderer was panic-stricken—its health bar was nearly depleted.
Every creature knew what an empty health bar meant.
The Mutant Wanderer was done for.
The field army fighters became elated.
Victory for the Block People in this battle was now beyond doubt.
Had the Mutant Wanderer possessed even a bit more intelligence and understood how to kite Mo Fangyuan, victory might not have been theirs.
“Clear the way! Let me handle this!”
Each elite monster slain granted Mo Fangyuan a wealth of experience.
The previous Zombie Giant was proof enough.
After confirming that the Mutant Wanderer was indeed gravely wounded, Mo Fangyuan unhesitatingly hurled two iron axes.
The axes spun in the air, streaking toward the Mutant Wanderer.
“Crack! Crack!”
The Mutant Wanderer seemed to glimpse its own demise, struggling fiercely in a desperate attempt to retreat from the deadly axes.
“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!”
The axes tore through the air, whistling as they flew.
“Bang! Bang!”
One high, one low, the two iron axes smashed into the Wanderer’s chest bones.
“Thud!”
The iron axes brought the battle to its end. The Mutant Wanderer died in bitter defeat.
“Hahaha!”
Mo Fangyuan laughed; even the fight against the Zombie Giant had not been as exhilarating as this duel with the Mutant Wanderer.
After the laughter came a wave of lingering fear.
“If only this mutant monster possessed a little intelligence, victory would not have been ours!”
The biting wind made Mo Fangyuan uncomfortable.
Had this elite monster possessed intelligence, they would have been the ones to die.
If Mo Fangyuan had come here alone, would he have managed to deal with the Mutant Wanderer?
“Ah!”
Ultimately, it all came down to weakness… I am too weak! The Block Kingdom is too weak! The Block People are too weak!
If only the Block People were strong, would they have been slaughtered by monsters to the verge of extinction?
Mo Fangyuan clenched his fists.
The Block People have suffered too much injustice and slaughter throughout history…
“I will dedicate my life to breaking these chains of evil!”
This was the most famous vow spoken by Mo Fangyuan, the great founding leader of the Block Empire, lifelong nemesis of monsters, warrior who tore through darkness, mentor of the Block People, first sage of the ages, and the dream of millions of young women…
After the Mutant Wanderer’s surprise assault, the fragile rest point was riddled with holes, offering no warmth.
“Let’s fix up the rest point first…”
Night was still deep and dawn a long way off.
Everyone was exhausted from the battle and needed rest.
They had to repair the drafty shelter, or it would be uninhabitable.
“Whew!”
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief; it seemed the ordeal was over.
“Yes!”
They pulled out blocks and began repairing the severely damaged rest point.
Mo Fangyuan walked over to the Mutant Wanderer’s corpse.
“One, two, three… twelve, thirteen, fourteen…”
This Mutant Wanderer died only after being pierced by fourteen arrows and two iron axes—its health bar was truly immense…
“That health bar might be even thicker than the Zombie Giant’s!”
An archer’s health bar thicker than a warrior’s? How was that fair?
Pulling out the iron axes and arrows from the Mutant Wanderer, Mo Fangyuan was puzzled.
They were all arrows, all fired—
So why could those fired by allies be recovered, while those fired by monsters simply vanished?
Xiao Bai’s arrows were like this, as were the Drowned’s tridents!
Wasn’t this intentionally targeting the Block People?
Monsters had unlimited ammunition; Block People had to craft their own!
“Forget these annoyances… time to loot the corpse!”
Mo Fangyuan took out his flint, eager to discover what drops this monster would yield.
