Chapter 86 Wen Yiming Escapes from Prison
That day, Wen Jin was summoned to the police station by a phone call. At first, she thought it was a scam, but then she heard her father Wen Yiming’s name mentioned.
Now, Wen Jin sat in the interrogation room of the Longcheng Police Bureau, restless and uneasy. It was her first time coming to the station for personal matters, and it felt as if an invisible stone weighed down her heart; her hands trembled uncontrollably, her mind a blank.
“Wen Jin, is that correct?” Two officers sat opposite her; one spoke with stern authority, while the other prepared to take notes.
“Yes,” Wen Jin answered, unsure why the police had sought her out. Her face was pallid, and sweat pooled in her palms.
The officer continued, “Miss Wen, you don’t need to be nervous. This is just an investigation. We brought you in to ask: do you know the whereabouts of your father, Wen Yiming? Please answer truthfully.”
“My father? Wasn’t he already convicted and taken into custody?” Wen Jin tried to steady herself, voicing her confusion.
“Wen Yiming was arrested for tax evasion, but he has since absconded, fleeing prosecution. He assaulted an officer and injured one of our colleagues. He is now wanted,” the officer’s gaze was sharp, scrutinizing her. “Recently, we learned he may be connected to an accident from years ago. His current whereabouts are unknown. Miss Wen, do you have any leads?”
“How could this happen?” Wen Jin was stunned, shaking her head in bewilderment. “I don’t know.”
“Miss Wen, are you certain? He is highly suspected of involvement in a serious car accident more than a decade ago, and we must apprehend him. There must be no concealment or protection,” the officer’s tone softened, seeing Wen Jin’s innocent demeanor.
Her mind buzzed, her heart trembling uncontrollably. How had her father become a suspect in a major case? Fleeing from justice? How had things come to this?
Though Wen Yiming had always been distant, lacking warmth in their relationship, Wen Jin still couldn’t believe her father could be so base...
The two officers exchanged a knowing glance, recognizing the disbelief in Wen Jin’s eyes.
“Miss Wen, if your father contacts you in any way, you must inform the police immediately. Any concealment would constitute aiding and abetting,” the officer warned her seriously.
Wen Jin nodded, dazed. When she stepped out of the interrogation room, she saw Gu Yao waiting against the wall outside, clearly having waited a long time.
Seeing Wen Jin emerge, Gu Yao hurried over and embraced her. “How are you, sweetheart? Were you scared?”
She was pulled into his familiar, warm embrace. When she withdrew, she saw he wore a black mask. Her mind took a moment to register, but as soon as she heard his voice, she relaxed completely, curling up to him like a kitten.
“Yao...” Her voice trembled slightly, and she looked pitifully fragile. That single word melted Gu Yao’s heart.
“Sweetheart?” Gu Yao was gentle, his gaze soft and radiant as starlight. He lifted her chin, seeing her face pale as snow, his heart aching.
He had received news early that morning from his second brother: Wen Yiming had broken out of prison. Alarmed, he canceled his work and rushed to Wen Jin, but arrived a step too late.
“Let’s go home,” Gu Yao nodded to the officers following them, then shielded Wen Jin as they left.
At the station entrance, they encountered Sun Yao and Wen Sipei, brought in by the police. The two were still bewildered, not knowing how devastating the news would be.
After returning to Gu Yao’s apartment, Wen Jin sat in a daze on the sofa, still gloomy. Her father’s troubles weighed on her like a stone, pressing so hard she couldn’t breathe.
Gu Yao stayed by her side, sitting down and wrapping an arm around her waist to comfort her. “Sweetheart, don’t dwell on it. All of this is Wen Yiming’s own fault—he can’t escape.”
Wen Jin knew that criminals would eventually face justice, but her heart was in turmoil, pain and shame gnawing at her, almost unbearable.
She truly couldn’t believe her father was a suspect in harming others, and now he had escaped from prison...
“But Father actually did something as serious as breaking out of prison? I really can’t understand it—he’s breaking the law knowingly, bringing ruin upon himself.” Wen Jin frowned deeply, looking at Gu Yao.
Gu Yao chuckled, squeezing her hand. “Wen Yiming will pay for his crimes sooner or later. Worrying for him won’t help; he’s an adult and must bear the consequences of his choices.”
Wen Jin had nothing more to say. Gu Yao spoke the truth: her father had broken the law, and no one could save him now...

The film “Polaris” was nearing its end. Yan Mei, striving for perfection in the visuals, had spent days repeatedly shooting a particular scene, nearly living on set, determined to deliver a satisfactory work to her fans.
Lu Yuxiu and Lin Xi stayed diligently with the director, working tirelessly to meet her standards. Though the crew and extras were exhausted, none dared complain.
When Lin Tianyou arrived on set, he witnessed the hard work and hectic atmosphere.
Seizing a moment when the director wasn’t speaking, he broke the tense mood with a shout, “Xi!”
It was her brother’s voice! Lin Xi turned with delight, her brows lifted high like a joyful magpie as she darted into Lin Tianyou’s arms. “Brother, how do you have time to visit the set?”
“What, am I not allowed to miss my sister? You’re so busy now—do I have to make an appointment to see you?” Lin Tianyou teased, affectionately tapping her nose.
“Of course not!” Lin Xi quickly added, climbing onto his arm like a child. “If brother misses me, just call—Xi promises to come running!” She finished with a playful salute.
Lin Tianyou laughed softly. “Smooth talker.”
Lu Yuxiu, standing nearby, didn’t feel jealous of Lin Xi’s antics. After all, this was his future brother-in-law—he needed to make a good impression.
Lin Xi led Lin Tianyou to the director.
Lin Tianyou greeted Yan Mei with gentlemanly courtesy. “Director Yan, hello. I’m Lin Xi’s brother, just visiting today. I hope I’m not disturbing you.”
“Not at all,” Yan Mei stood and waved, meeting the legendary CEO of Aiyou Group for the first time.
“I brought some drinks and snacks for everyone. Let’s have a break,” Lin Tianyou suggested.
Yan Mei couldn’t refuse. She announced, “Take a break, everyone—enjoy some refreshments. We’ll resume this afternoon!”
The crew glanced gratefully toward Lin Tianyou.
Lin Xi pulled her brother over to Lu Yuxiu. It was the first time they’d met since she started dating Lu Yuxiu.
Lin Tianyou and Lu Yuxiu stood face to face. Lin Xi grew anxious—what if her brother disapproved?
The two men stared silently at each other, tension thick in the air. Lin Xi looked from one to the other, her heart pounding, uncertain what her brother thought—she dared not even breathe.
Just as Lin Xi felt the atmosphere growing stranger and wanted to break the silence, Lu Yuxiu reached out to Lin Tianyou, a rare smile on his face. “Mr. Lin, good to see you again.”
Lin Tianyou’s smile was warm as spring. “I didn’t expect you’d actually make it.”
Lin Xi stared in confusion—make what?
Lu Yuxiu’s eyes glimmered with a barely perceptible joy. His words were lost on Lin Xi as well. “Thanks to you, Mr. Lin.”
Lin Tianyou nodded. “No need for formality—just call me brother.”
“Tianyou,” Lu Yuxiu replied, understanding this was approval from Lin Xi’s brother. His heart was joyful, and he addressed him willingly.
Lin Xi watched their friendly exchange and finally breathed a sigh of relief. She looked between them in surprise. “When did you two become so familiar? I had no idea!”
“There’s plenty you don’t know,” Lin Tianyou teased. “Come on, where’s your dressing room? I want a word with you.”
“Alright,” Lin Xi linked her brother’s arm, leading him away, and winked at Lu Yuxiu.
“Brother, sit.” Lin Xi pressed her brother into a chair and diligently massaged his shoulders.
“So, is filming tiring lately?” Lin Tianyou asked, concerned.
Lin Xi laughed. “Boss is here to inspect! Don’t worry, brother, filming is fulfilling.”
“That’s good. When you were abroad, eldest brother never let you suffer. I’d hate for you to be mistreated after returning.” Lin Tianyou regretted not spending enough time with her.
Lin Xi understood his worries. He feared anything would make her unhappy, wishing to give her all the good things in the world.
She leaned onto his shoulder, acting spoiled. “Brother, I’m very happy. I worry about you—you’re so busy, you barely rest.”
Lin Tianyou waved it off. “I’m used to it.”
“No! You still haven’t shown any sign of a sister-in-law! If you don’t hurry up, really...” Lin Xi felt like a nagging old lady.
“These things can’t be rushed; it’s all about fate.” Lin Tianyou was unconcerned.
“Brother, what do you think of him? Are you upset I didn’t tell you about my relationship?” Lin Xi bit her lip, anxiously awaiting his answer.
“Of course not. Your love life is your own. Why would I object?” Lin Tianyou had no issues with Lu Yuxiu.
Lin Xi’s eyes widened in surprise. “Brother, you’re so at ease with me dating?”
To her surprise, Lin Tianyou replied calmly, “I can see you’re happy with him—that’s all that matters.”
A wave of warmth swept through Lin Xi. She hugged her brother, mumbling, “Brother, I love you so much!”
“Alright, enough with the affection. I have something serious to tell you.” Lin Tianyou, immune to her antics, pulled her to sit opposite him.
“What is it?” Lin Xi asked, puzzled.
“I heard about the ‘acid attack’ incident. You must be careful when you go out. Always take Miya or Lu Yuxiu with you—never go alone,” Lin Tianyou said, unusually serious.
Lin Xi was stunned, raising her voice. “Brother, you think something’s wrong too? I knew it wasn’t simple!”
“Don’t worry about it. Mainly because...” Lin Tianyou frowned, not wanting to mention certain people. He only said, “Just be vigilant for your own safety.”
“Alright.” Lin Xi assumed it was a business matter and didn’t press, nodding obediently.
“Keep working hard. I’ll be off now,” Lin Tianyou rose, patting her head.
“Okay~” Lin Xi was reluctant but had no choice. Both were too busy; her work schedule was unpredictable, and her brother, the big boss, wished he had forty-eight hours in a day to use.
