Chapter 105: Sweeping the Floors

The Splendid Age had become a huge hit in the domestic entertainment scene, and Lin Xi heard from Miya that overseas markets were also actively bidding for its rights, planning to launch it abroad.
On screen, Lu Yuxiu and Lin Xi were the darling chemistry couple, and off screen they were a real pair, making them one of the hottest stars in the industry. The pairing of Wen Jin and Jianghe was also delightfully shipable, and the younger fans raged with excitement on every platform, sending support, chanting, and begging for fresh updates.
At the request of the wider fanbase, the drama team and Satellite TV planned a midday “floor sweep” event this afternoon, with a live-streamed pseudo-meeting as a special online gift for Splendid Age fans.
Zhou Xin explained that the activity was set for 2:00 p.m. A so-called floor sweep simply means visiting the studio floors, sharing goodies with staff, and letting the lead actors mingle, hand out sugar and chat a little. As long as there were no spoilers, they could be as casual as they wanted.
By chance, Lin Xi had no schedule today; she would only join the shoot of her next film, The Ethereal Chronicle, tomorrow. After talking with Zhou Xin, she went straight to Wen Jin’s apartment, planning to go to the event together in the evening. Lu Yuxiu, of course, would make a rushed trip from the company.
Before noon, Lin Xi hurried nonstop to Wen Jin’s place, thinking she could catch the lunch rush, but on arrival she discovered that “Chef Gu” was not there.
Wen Jin waved her in and said with a smile, “Brother Gu has work today, so you’ll get to taste my cooking. I swear it won’t be worse than his.”
“Really?” Lin Xi brightened. “Little Jin, I had no idea you could cook. Ha, I’m in for a feast.”
Wen Jin went to the kitchen to prepare lunch. Lin Xi, not wanting to stand idle, came over to help, and they chatted as they cooked.
“Little Jin, how have you been? Have you started your writing career yet?” Lin Xi asked as she washed vegetables.
Wen Jin kept working and said, “Mm… I’m still in the planning stage. I’ve set a rough direction—I want to write about the entertainment world, and I’m still gathering material. It needs to be handled carefully.”
“Mm…” Lin Xi nodded. “Yeah, you know what they say: every start is the hardest. You have to figure it out little by little.”
In the television, the replay from yesterday’s episode was playing, right when Feng Changge was telling Qi Tian with conviction, “We will succeed.”
Wen Jin gave a soft laugh.
“I reached out to Guo Guo, the author of The Splendid Age,” she said brightly. “She said she’d be happy to teach me. I’m going to learn from her properly.”
Lin Xi kept nodding. “Exactly. We have her, after all—Guo Guo is great. If we can, let’s invite her to dinner.”
“Mm-hmm.” Wen Jin accepted the cauliflower Lin Xi had washed.
Wen Jin finished stir-frying, and when Lin Xi brought the dishes to the table she rubbed her hands in excitement. “I feel so accomplished. I’m going to post a Weibo.”

She pulled out her phone and snapped one picture of Wen Jin’s back as she served rice, then another of the dishes on the table, and posted a caption.
Lin Xi on Weibo: Thanks to today’s chef, @Wen Jin, I’m so blessed~
No sooner than a second later, someone replied.
@AreYouPolite: Wow, Xi Xi and Wen Jin eating together at noon—now all we need are Xiu-god and Yao-ye!
@lookatyourself: Ugh, so jealous. Really, beautiful girls always hang out with beautiful girls. I never expected little Jin to cook—what a perfect wife and mother! Lord Yao is ridiculously fortunate!
@xixixixixi: So warm. Another day of crying over heavenly friendship energy. That lunch date is definitely a setup for the floor sweep later. Baby Xi, see you online later!
Not long after, Gu Yao ran down to comment, too: “You two are so at ease. @Wen Jin, sweetie, you still haven’t made dinner for me yet…”
When Lin Xi refreshed and saw it, she handed the phone to Wen Jin with an irritated, teasing smile.
Wen Jin looked at it, fished out her own phone in a rush, blushed, and shot back, “Don’t say a word!”
Gu Yao immediately folded like a puppet: “Got it. Yes ma’am.”
Lin Xi kept her eyes glued to the screen, watching the two of them “pamper” each other in her comment thread, hands on her forehead as she watched.
Their ultra-sweet interaction gave the netizens another giant serving of couple bait, and even many emperor-and-empress pairing shippers suddenly tagged Lu Yuxiu, demanding, “Xiu-shen, come out and show some couple affection already. We can’t lose!”
“Come on, come on, we’re eating now. Ignore him,” Lin Xi said, deciding to fill her stomach first.
“Mm, eat,” Wen Jin laughed quietly.
They set the phones aside. The two “chief culprits” paid no mind to the sugar storm online and kept watching their own drama.
“By the way,” Wen Jin said, choosing her words, “I heard that Shu Yunyi has been diagnosed with depression.”
Wen Jin and Shu Yunyi had already met a few times thanks to Lin Xi’s introduction, and hearing this still felt very saddening.
“The poor little girl has had it hard,” Wen Jin said, eyes lowered. “If we can help, we should help as much as we can.”

Lin Xi nodded faintly, a wistful ache in her. She bit her lower lip and said, “Mm. Yunyi is okay. She’s gentle, just like you. She loves to smile, and being with her feels bright and clean. She’ll get through it.”
Even saying that, Lin Xi nearly saw Shu Yunyi’s soft, lively face in her mind—especially those moist, deer-like eyes, full of joy when she saw her, the way her smile could heal. A sudden, inexplicable stab of pain passed through Lin Xi.
“…I should have thought of this earlier,” Lin Xi sighed in frustration. “She even painted such a struggling, painful picture on set once. That should have been a warning. Gosh, I was so slow-witted.”
Wen Jin shook her head, patted Lin Xi’s hand, and said softly, “Don’t blame yourself. Believe Yunyi—she’ll make it. Eat your lunch.”
After lunch, Miya arrived at Wen Jin’s apartment with the makeup team and the stylist to get both girls ready.
Once Lin Xi finished her makeup, she chose a coffee-toned short blazer with a small cape—polished and crisp while still elegant.
Wen Jin wore a white Chanel-inspired two-piece, with delicate earrings, her long wavy hair soft and poised, unmistakably ladylike.
The two got into one car and headed for the event.
They seemed to have arrived first. As soon as they got out, the scene erupted in noise. Lin Xi took Wen Jin’s hand, and staff guided them up in an elevator.
The two stood by the transparent elevator glass and looked down while the lift shot upward at speed, while people below snapped away with frenzy.
Live event clips were quickly passed around online by passersby; the two in the elevator went viral again. For a while, the hashtag #LinXiAndWenJinElevatorAura went straight to trending.
The fans lost their composure again:
“Aaaah, sis, yes! Whenever Xi Xi appears, she instantly stuns the whole place. She’s the kind of beauty who comes with her own filter—her aura can be so cool and forceful it makes you call her ‘boss,’ or so sensual you blurt out ‘Sis, you’re so beautiful!’ She’s both fierce and graceful.”
“Lin, the executive, has arrived on inspection, fully in command. The elevator mood is flawless. Raw photos are absolutely iconic—angelic face, devilish figure. Wen Jin’s aura is unmatched. She has it nailed, and she has zero resistance to beautiful women.”
“Absolutely perfect. Walking trend incarnate, screen-grazing material. A divine shot is born—tyrant CEO and his little wife. We’ve got content now!”
