Chapter 80: Stirring Restlessness
"What's wrong, don't you like it? I dressed like this especially for you." Jiang Yuechan giggled, her body subtly leaning toward Qin Feng. The faint scent of her perfume drifted into his nose, making his mind restless.
Qin Feng, expressionless, shifted slightly to the side and said, "Let's talk business. What's going on with the Bai family?"
Seeing that Qin Feng remained unmoved, a sly gleam flickered in Jiang Yuechan's eyes. She stopped teasing him and spoke in a serious tone.
"Old Master Bai's illness is severe, and there's a struggle for inheritance within the family. Bai Ruoxi's situation is rather precarious."
"Oh?"
Qin Feng frowned slightly at her words. "How is Old Master Bai's health?"
Jiang Yuechan covered her mouth with a soft laugh, her gaze full of allure. "What, already missing her? Your sister thinks of you day and night." As she spoke, she deliberately pressed her chest forward, brushing against Qin Feng's arm.
Qin Feng evaded her touch without betraying any emotion. This woman was shrewd and resourceful; he had no intention of getting entangled with her without understanding her motives.
"What illness does Old Master Bai have? Is it serious?"
"It seems to be a stroke. I don't know the details, but I've heard they've invited many famous doctors, all to no avail." Jiang Yuechan put aside her playful manner and continued seriously, "Now that he's gravely ill, the collateral branches are getting restless, all eager to seize their share."
Qin Feng let out a cold laugh. "A pack of vampires!"
"Who could disagree?" Jiang Yuechan said, sharing his sentiment. "But you can't really blame them. Old Master Bai only dotes on one granddaughter, and she's an ice-cold beauty, indifferent to everyone. Those hoping to curry favor have all been rebuffed."
"What is Bai Ruoxi doing now?"
"What else? She's busy dealing with those scheming relatives. I've heard her fiancé, Wang Teng from the Wang family, has been showering her with concern lately, running errands for her and practically living at the Bai estate." There was a hint of schadenfreude in Jiang Yuechan's voice.
"Wang Teng? Hmph!"
A cold glint flashed in Qin Feng's eyes. He had heard of Wang Teng—relying on his family's influence, he ran rampant in the capital, bullying men and women alike, committing all manner of crimes. Rumor had it he once abducted a young woman, but nothing came of it, clearly because someone was protecting him behind the scenes.
"What, jealous?" Jiang Yuechan looked at Qin Feng with a sly smile, her eyes sparkling mischievously.
Qin Feng glanced at her and replied coolly, "I just think a scoundrel like him doesn't deserve Bai Ruoxi."
"Then who do you think does? You?" Jiang Yuechan pressed him, her tone tinged with provocation.
Qin Feng didn't answer. He gazed out the window at the passing scenery, a complicated expression flickering in his eyes.
The car sped onward and soon arrived at the most bustling part of the capital.
"We're here. Let's get out," Jiang Yuechan parked and got out first.
Qin Feng opened the door and stepped out, lifting his gaze to the manor before him, surprise flickering in his eyes. "Is this the place you mentioned where Old Master Bai is recuperating?"
"Why, does it not look like it?" Jiang Yuechan replied with a smile.
"Not at all." Qin Feng shook his head. "This is hardly for convalescence. It's more like living in luxury."
"Haha, you just don't understand," Jiang Yuechan said. She hooked her arm through Qin Feng's, pressing close, the scent of her perfume wafting to him.
"Do you know who Old Master Bai is? He's someone whose slightest action can shake the whole capital. Now that he's ill, everyone wants to come by and make his acquaintance."
Qin Feng subtly withdrew his arm. This woman was indeed opportunistic.
Still, she had a point. In the capital, Old Master Bai was a figure whose influence could make the earth tremble. Naturally, many would seize the chance to curry favor while he was ill.
"Let's go in and take a look," Qin Feng said, heading toward the entrance.
As Qin Feng and Jiang Yuechan approached the gate, two security guards stopped them.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" one guard said coldly.
Qin Feng laughed icily, regarding the two as if they were ants. "Step aside. I'm here today to treat Old Master Bai."
"Treat him? Look at yourself—do you really think you’re qualified to treat Old Master Bai looking like a pauper?" one guard sneered, sizing Qin Feng up and down.
Indeed, Qin Feng was dressed in cheap clothes, hardly resembling a renowned doctor.
"Exactly. Do you know where you are? A beggar like you doesn’t belong here. Get lost—don’t be an eyesore!" the other guard waved impatiently.
Jiang Yuechan watched silently from the side, her eyes glinting with cunning.
"Heh, seems the Bai family is really going downhill—if even the gatekeepers behave so arrogantly," Qin Feng scoffed, his tone mocking.
"What did you say?!" The two guards were instantly enraged and moved to act.
"What, you want to start something? I advise you to consider the consequences. There are people you can't afford to provoke," Qin Feng's gaze turned cold, a powerful aura emanating from him.
The guards instinctively stepped back under the force of his presence, but quickly puffed themselves up again, their bravado shaky.
"Don’t try to scare us. We’re not easily intimidated!"
"Is that so?" Qin Feng’s lips curled into a cold smile. He’d been looking for an excuse to vent—these fools had walked right into it.
Just then, a commanding voice came from inside, and a man in a suit strode out.
"Well, if it isn’t Miss Jiang. What brings you here today?" The suited man's smile was all surface, his eyes dismissively scanning Qin Feng before lingering lasciviously on Jiang Yuechan.
"What, Miss Jiang, are you here to experience life and try out some uniform fantasies?"
Jiang Yuechan frowned in disgust and discreetly moved away from him, putting distance between herself and Qin Feng. Her voice was icy. "Steward Liu, I’m here today to accompany Dr. Qin to treat the old master. Please inform the household."
"Dr. Qin?"
Steward Liu looked as though he’d heard a joke, exaggeratedly sizing Qin Feng up before snorting derisively.
"Him? Dressed like a bumpkin, and you call him a doctor? Miss Jiang, surely you don’t believe he’s some miracle worker?"
Qin Feng stood with his hands in his pockets, calmly observing the farce without the slightest intention of explaining himself.
After all, he truly could cure Old Master Bai. With his clairvoyant eye, he could see what others could not—not just in stone, but inside the human body. Coupled with the legacy of Master Tongbao, even the most revered physicians would pale in comparison if he so wished.
