Chapter Sixty-Eight: You Have a Taste for This Too?
The lounge was decorated with warmth and elegance, gentle lights spilling into every corner and creating an atmosphere of tranquility and comfort. Qin Feng and Bai Ruoxi found a seat by the window, where the city’s nightscape shimmered with scattered lights. The quiet within contrasted sharply with the lively world outside.
“I never expected to see you here,” Bai Ruoxi said softly, her eyes shimmering with a gentle smile. “Ever since we parted ways at the hospital, I thought we wouldn’t meet again.”
Qin Feng smiled faintly and shook his head. “Actually, I should be the one thanking you. Without your help and your family’s support, I might have lost Jade Pavilion by now.”
Bai Ruoxi shook her head gently, replying earnestly, “We’re friends. Helping each other is only right. Besides, I believe that even without my help, you’d have found another way through your troubles.”
They started talking about their recent lives, from work to personal matters, drifting to lighter topics until the atmosphere between them grew relaxed and cheerful. Qin Feng realized that being with Bai Ruoxi always brought him a rare sense of ease and comfort.
“By the way, as the young lady of the Bai family, what brings you to a place like Jianghai?” Qin Feng asked, puzzled. Normally, a girl of her distinguished background would stay in grand mansions, not work as a nurse in a hospital.
With a sigh, Bai Ruoxi’s expression grew wistful. “My family’s pressure was too much. My father even wanted to arrange a marriage for me.” A bitter smile touched her lips.
She wasn’t lying—her parents had been urging her to marry for some time now. She had come to Jianghai to escape the pressure of a family-arranged marriage, choosing the city at random, and found herself working as a nurse—a form of escape.
“So life isn’t all that easy for those from great families after all,” Qin Feng said, chuckling to himself.
He had once envied the heirs of powerful families, perhaps because of their affluence, but the idea of arranged marriages never sat well with him. Still, he understood this was how such families ensured their continued prosperity. In the capital, no family could guarantee their own lasting glory.
Yet that didn’t diminish their power. Take the Wen family, for example—in the capital, they were barely a third-rate family, but it was still them who nearly got Qin Feng killed in Myanmar.
“It’s true, it’s not easy,” Bai Ruoxi replied, a faint smile on her face as if it was the first time she’d heard someone describe her family’s world as ‘not easy’.
It was as if a weight had been lifted from her heart, and she began to confide in Qin Feng—sharing family gossip, tales of young heirs getting into trouble, or heiresses keeping male models as companions. All Qin Feng could do was marvel at how the wealthy found new ways to entertain themselves.
“All right, I’ve said so much—just don’t get annoyed. If you ever come to the capital, find me and I’ll take care of you!” Perhaps because she’d chatted with Qin Feng for so long, Bai Ruoxi’s words even carried a hint of local bravado.
He laughed heartily. “I won’t be polite, then. I’ll be sure to look for you!”
He knew Bai Ruoxi was straightforward and kind—if he promised, he would keep his word.
…
After more than two hours, the guests gradually took their leave. Qin Feng and Bai Ruoxi dined at the hotel and only then returned to their rooms. Back in his room, Qin Feng washed up and was about to lay down to sleep when his phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at the screen—it was Fatty calling.
“Hello? Fatty, what’s up?” Qin Feng asked, puzzled by the late call, sensing something urgent.
“Ah Feng, where are you? Come save me!” Wang Bo’s anxious voice came through, as if something catastrophic had happened.
“Calm down, Fatty. Tell me slowly, what’s going on?” Qin Feng raised his brow and asked.
Wang Bo quickly explained everything. Business had been good lately, and Fatty had made quite a bit of money. Flush with cash, he’d gone to a casino in Jiangnan—though it was actually a friend who brought him along. At first, he’d won a fair amount and intended to stop, but his so-called friend had lost heavily and dragged Fatty back into gambling. Before he knew it, Fatty owed a substantial debt and had called Qin Feng for help.
“Where are you in Jiangnan? I’ll come find you right away.”
After hanging up, Qin Feng quickly changed clothes and hurried out. The Jiangnan Casino wasn’t far from his hotel—he drove there in about twenty minutes.
It was one of Jiangnan’s most exclusive private casinos, lavishly decorated with a refined atmosphere. The gamblers coming and going were all wealthy. After parking, Qin Feng went straight inside, registered at the front desk, and stepped into the elevator.
Inside, he noticed five or six young men gathered together, smoking and chatting. Their conversation circled around crude jokes and women. Though they were dressed in suits and wore watches, looking rather stylish, the air of roguishness around them made Qin Feng frown. He was certain these weren’t the idle rich, but more likely members of the underworld or petty thugs.
Just then, a familiar figure appeared beside him, and the man also noticed him.
“Qin Feng? You into this kind of thing too?” The man stopped, turning to Qin Feng with a smile.
“Yang Tianchen?” Qin Feng narrowed his eyes at the sight of the man.
“Haha, come on, let’s play for a while. I finally got away from home—got to have some fun. Tonight, it’s on me!” Yang Tianchen threw his arm around Qin Feng, steering him toward the casino.
But Qin Feng didn’t go with him. Instead, he said, “Yang, you go ahead. I have something to take care of first.”
Yang Tianchen’s curiosity was piqued. In his eyes, with Qin Feng’s abilities, he was someone to be reckoned with in a place like this. He quickly asked, “What’s going on? Need a hand?”
He was looking for some excitement anyway.
Qin Feng was pleased—after all, this was the young master of the Yang family from the capital. “Great, thanks, Yang!”
Without further ado, Qin Feng pulled Yang Tianchen along. He needed a capable partner, and Yang was the perfect choice.
