Chapter 119: Best to Act in the Dead of Night
The leader of the men in black gasped sharply, his eyes filled with venomous hatred. “Fine!”
He took a deep breath, enduring the pain, and began to recount the affairs of the Black Serpent organization.
It turned out that the so-called Black Serpent was a notorious group in the Western world.
This organization recruited assassins worldwide. As long as someone was willing to pay, they could hire killers to do anything.
Moreover, the Black Serpent's members were a mixed lot, encompassing gangs and mercenaries from all corners of the globe.
This made it nearly impossible to uncover their true identities, which only attracted more people to seek them out eagerly.
This time, they had come to Daxia on the invitation of a tycoon to search for an antique.
However, their mission ended in failure, with several members lost along the way.
After listening to the explanation, Qin Feng finally understood the situation thoroughly.
“I see,” Qin Feng said with sudden clarity.
If what they said was true, then their encounter this time was purely accidental.
But such a coincidence was almost unbelievable.
Qin Feng glanced coldly at the Black Serpent members lying on the ground.
He had struck without mercy; even if these men survived, they would be bedridden for months.
“Damn it, what kind of scum dares to cause trouble on my turf without knowing their place?” Yang Tianchen spat and stomped on one of the black-clad men’s faces.
Qin Feng ignored him and walked straight to Mu Teng, who was slumped on the ground, looking down at him from above.
“Mr. Mu Teng, it seems you’re having a rough time.”
Mu Teng forced a smile more pitiful than tears when he saw Qin Feng.
He sensed that Qin Feng was a relentless man who would show no mercy.
“Mr. Qin, you flatter me,” he said.
“Tell me, what exactly are you after? And don’t tell me you don’t know these people!” Qin Feng raised an eyebrow.
Mu Teng glanced at the groaning Black Serpent members, swallowed hard, and stammered, “It’s... it’s about that ancient temple…”
Mu Teng’s own organization, the Black Dragon Society, had also received a commission from a benefactor.
Someone overseas was offering a reward of 300 million yuan for a stone Buddha.
“What secret does that stone Buddha hold?” Qin Feng grabbed Mu Teng’s collar fiercely, his gaze murderous.
Mu Teng trembled, gritting his teeth in pain, but dared not speak.
He knew some secrets, once spoken, meant certain death.
Seeing his hesitation, Qin Feng realized Mu Teng was hiding something.
But he was in no rush. Pulling out a pack of cigarettes, he lit one and smoked leisurely.
“Cough, cough…”
The pungent smoke wafted into Mu Teng’s face, making him cough violently.
Blowing out a smoke ring, Qin Feng said coolly, “I hate being played for a fool. If you don’t tell me the truth now, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
Mu Teng looked at Qin Feng in terror, seeing the undisguised killing intent in his eyes.
He knew that if he didn’t say something soon, he might never leave this room alive.
“I... I’ll tell you...” Mu Teng swallowed with difficulty. “I heard... I heard that stone Buddha might be... a key…”
“A key?” Qin Feng raised his eyebrow. “A key to what?”
“The exact nature of the key, I don’t know…” Mu Teng said cautiously. “I only heard it could open... open a treasure…”
“A treasure?” Qin Feng’s interest peaked. “What kind of treasure?”
Mu Teng shook his head, signaling he didn’t know.
Qin Feng stared at him for a long moment. Seeing no sign of deceit, he finally stood and crushed the cigarette butt beneath his foot.
“Looks like this trip to the ancient temple is inevitable,” Qin Feng thought to himself.
He paid no more attention to Mu Teng or the others, turning to Yang Tianchen.
“Let’s go. We need to hurry.”
Yang Tianchen had been itching for action. Hearing Qin Feng, he rubbed his hands excitedly.
“Alright! I’ve heard the Black Serpent is a ruthless bunch. Today, I get to see for myself!”
Along the way, Qin Feng’s mind kept returning to Mu Teng’s words.
A key capable of opening a treasure?
It sounded almost like a made-up story.
But Qin Feng knew Mu Teng had no reason to lie.
And the Black Dragon Society and the Black Serpent were no ordinary groups.
If they had traveled all this way to Daxia, it wasn’t for some vague legend.
It seemed that this stone Buddha was truly extraordinary!
Resolved to obtain it, Qin Feng’s determination only grew stronger.
Meanwhile, outside the ancient temple, several shadows moved silently under the cover of night.
“Boss, are we really going to cooperate with the Black Dragon Society?” a small-framed man in black whispered.
“Silence!” The leader sneered. “This is an order from above. We just follow commands!”
“But... I heard the Black Dragon Society is ruthless. Working with them is like bargaining with the devil!” the small man fretted.
“So what?” the leader scoffed. “The Black Serpent isn't weak either! Besides, as long as we get that thing, we’d make a deal with the devil without hesitation!”
“But...”
“No buts!” the leader snapped. “Remember, our only goal is that stone Buddha!”
The temple, shrouded in night, seemed even more silent, broken only by the occasional crow’s eerie caw.
Approaching the temple’s perimeter, Qin Feng signaled Yang Tianchen and Zhang Hu to move quietly.
“Brother Feng, these bastards sure know how to pick a place—so dark and grim, like the palace of the King of Hell,” Zhang Hu muttered, his voice low and cautious.
Yang Tianchen, however, looked excited, cracking his knuckles.
“What’s there to fear? Darkness is perfect for action. Keeps the place clean, saves me the trouble of cleanup!”
Qin Feng ignored their chatter, his sharp eyes scanning the surroundings. A dangerous aura hung in the air.
“Be careful. There’s an ambush nearby,” he whispered gravely.
No sooner had he spoken than several shadows burst from all directions, charging toward the three of them.
“Well, come and get it!”
