Chapter 107: The Old Fox
Yamamoto Ichiro set down his wine glass, his expression darkening. “I’ve heard you discovered an ancient monastery in the Tibetan region, and inside, a Buddha statue…”
Qin Feng’s heart stirred at those words—so the Wang family had indeed uncovered a treasure this time.
Yamamoto Ichiro deliberately drew out his words, his tone dripping with greed and an air of inevitability. “President Wang, you’re not thinking of keeping it for yourself, are you? My people saw it with their own eyes, that Buddha statue is…”
He lowered his voice, but Qin Feng still caught the words: “relics.”
Relics!
A jolt went through Qin Feng. Clearly, the Wang family had unearthed something extraordinary. Buddhist relics have always been priceless, and finding them in an ancient monastery only increased their worth beyond measure.
Inside the private room, President Wang’s breathing grew noticeably faster. He feigned calmness, took a sip of wine, and forced a smile. “Mr. Yamamoto, your sources are truly remarkable, but as you know, hearsay is hardly reliable…”
Yamamoto Ichiro burst into laughter, his corpulent body quivering with mirth, his oily face brimming with contempt.
“President Wang, let’s not beat around the bush. Whatever you want—I can give it to you. Money? Women? Or… power?”
He paused, lowering his voice so only the two of them could hear. “I can make you king of Beijing’s underworld. Whoever you want gone—I’ll see to it.”
President Wang’s pupils contracted sharply, obviously tempted by Yamamoto Ichiro’s offer. Yet he quickly regained his composure, raised his glass, and toasted him.
“Mr. Yamamoto, I appreciate your kindness, but I need more time to think this over…”
“To think?” Yamamoto Ichiro slammed his hand on the table, making the door vibrate with the force. “President Wang, don’t refuse a toast only to drink a penalty. I’ll give you three days. In three days, I want to see that Buddha statue—or else…”
He left the threat unfinished, but its meaning was unmistakable.
The atmosphere in the room grew tense and volatile. Qin Feng knew President Wang was tempted. But he still had reservations—after all, Yamamoto Ichiro was no benevolent figure. If he got hold of the statue, the Wang family might well be devoured in one bite.
“Three days…” Qin Feng realized it was time to act.
He signaled Bai Ruoxi with a glance, and she immediately understood, pulling a miniature bug from her bag and sticking it discreetly into the door crack.
“Let’s go. The real show is yet to begin.”
---
A playful smile curled Qin Feng’s lips as he turned away from the private room. Bai Ruoxi followed closely, lowering her voice. “What should we do now?”
“We wait and watch. The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. Surely you know that old saying?” A cold gleam flashed in Qin Feng’s eyes. Those who meddled in his affairs never came to a good end.
The two descended to the ground floor, settling into a secluded corner. Bai Ruoxi took out her phone, connected it to the bug, and the conversation in the private room came through clearly.
“Have you really decided?” An elderly voice, fraught with worry, sounded.
“Dad, I have no choice.” President Wang’s voice was weary. “Yamamoto Ichiro’s power is overwhelming—we can’t fight him.”
“But…”
“There’s no but, Dad. This is our family’s only chance.”
Hearing this, a cold light flashed in Qin Feng’s eyes. Clearly, things were turbulent within the Wang family as well.
“Three days… Ha, that old fox.”
Qin Feng sneered, switching off the listening device on Bai Ruoxi’s phone.
“It seems Wang Pinggui is scared out of his wits by Yamamoto Ichiro. Three days is more than enough for that old man to move the relics anywhere.”
Bai Ruoxi’s brows knit in concern. “What do we do? We can’t just stand by and let the relics fall into foreign hands, can we?”
“Don’t worry. Since I’m here, this won’t end so easily.”
A cold gleam flickered in Qin Feng’s eyes. “They want to play the mantis and the cicada with me, but they don’t even know if their own backsides are clean.”
He paused, then continued, “Xiao Bai, keep an eye on Wang Pinggui and Yamamoto Ichiro. Notify me at once if anything happens. I’m going to pay a visit to that Wang family scion—see if I can pry some useful information out of him.”
Bai Ruoxi nodded, worry clouding her gaze. “Be careful. Wang Teng is not someone to be underestimated.”
Qin Feng merely smiled. “If he really had any skill, he wouldn’t have been beaten by me until he was searching for his teeth on the floor.”
With that, Qin Feng rose and departed, leaving only a graceful silhouette behind.
---
Nightfall descended, city lights flickered on, and at Rainbow Bar—situated in the heart of the city’s golden district—music thundered and colored lights danced through the air. On the dance floor, men and women twisted wildly, releasing pent-up hormones with abandon.
Qin Feng, dressed simply in casual attire, sat at the bar. He sipped a bland cocktail, scanning his surroundings with a sidelong glance.
In a dim corner of the bar, Wang Teng was surrounded by scantily clad women, reveling in debauchery and excess.
Qin Feng watched calmly from the bar, a faint cold smile playing on his lips. The bodyguards flanking Wang Teng were alert, their sharp eyes scanning the crowd as if hunting for prey.
“So the Wang family scion is wary, after all,” Qin Feng mused. “But do they really think this bunch of misfits can stop me?”
He gestured to the bartender for another drink.
A heavily made-up woman sashayed over, her hips swaying, dressed in a skirt barely covering her thighs and a deep V sequin camisole highlighting her voluptuous figure.
“Handsome, drinking alone isn’t any fun,” she purred, her voice syrupy. “Why not let me join you for a drink?”
She leaned toward Qin Feng, but he moved subtly aside. Undeterred, the woman grew bolder, settling herself onto his lap, her softness brushing against his arm.
“Beautiful,” Qin Feng said with a hint of amusement in his eyes, “isn’t your approach a little too old-fashioned?”
She giggled, “What kind do you like, handsome? I can be anything you want…”
Qin Feng feigned surprise. “Oh? Anything at all?”
She threw him a flirtatious glance. “Of course, as long as you…”
Her hand began to roam over Qin Feng, but he caught it firmly.
“Want to play with fire? You should at least know your own worth.” Qin Feng sneered, pushing her away.
She stumbled, nearly falling. Regaining her balance, she was about to protest, but Qin Feng’s cold stare froze her in place. That gaze seemed to pierce through all her pretense, sending a chill down her spine.
Knowing better, she closed her mouth and slunk away.
