Chapter 2: Reluctant to Doubt Him
As the words fell, a dead silence descended upon the dining room.
Gu Wennuan snapped back to her senses and rushed forward to scold Xiaofeng, "Stop talking nonsense."
Xiaofeng wasn't afraid of her at all. He spat at Tang Xi a few times and ran upstairs.
Gu Yu gave Gu Wennuan a look, and she immediately chased after him.
"Darling, don't be angry. He's just a child who doesn't know any better," Gu Yu said, pulling Tang Xi into his arms and patiently coaxing her. "The boy has grown up without a father, and Wennuan has to work to make a living, so he's lacked discipline. Don't worry, I'll make sure to teach him proper manners in the future."
No matter how good-tempered Tang Xi was, being called a vixen was still deeply unpleasant.
Fortunately, Gu Yu was extremely patient. He told her jokes and gave her a massage, finally managing to coax a smile out of her.
Tang Xi thought, *Forget it, why get angry at a five-year-old child?*
"Darling, did you not eat well in Hong Kong? Why have you lost weight?" Gu Yu held her in his arms, his hot kisses falling along her porcelain collarbone. The warmth in his eyes flared as his desire-filled lips traced their way along her skin.
His wife had been in Hong Kong for a week, and he had missed her to the point of madness.
Tang Xi was exhausted, but feeling Gu Yu's passion, she couldn't help but return his kiss.
Their bedroom was on the second floor, and Gu Yu scooped her up in his arms.
Their passion burned like fire, fueled by the embers of longing.
Right then, the front door was suddenly pounded on violently.
The noise was so loud that Tang Xi shrank back into Gu Yu's embrace in startle.
"I'll go check," Gu Yu said, suppressing the fire inside him. He got up and pulled open the door, but there was no one outside.
Just as he turned around, Gu Wennuan suddenly appeared, her voice urgent and choked with tears. "Brother, Xiaofeng fell down the stairs!"
Tang Xi watched as Gu Yu's figure vanished from the doorway at lightning speed.
By the time she got dressed and went out, Gu Yu was nowhere to be seen in the living room.
The maid stood at the bottom of the stairs, calling out tentatively, "Madam."
"Is the child alright?" Tang Xi asked.
The maid looked bewildered. "Madam, I just got back. I only saw Sir running out in a hurry holding a child."
"Were you on leave these past few days?"
"After you left for Hong Kong, Sir told me to go home and rest. I only rushed back because I just received a message from him."
Tang Xi went back to the bedroom, took a shower, and lay in bed to call Gu Yu.
She called three times, but he never answered.
Tang Xi did not like to overthink things. Especially after being with Gu Yu, who had always given her a complete sense of security.
He was incredibly attentive, always anticipating her thoughts and resolving all her worries beforehand.
But this time, because it involved Gu Yu, Tang Xi felt a bit flustered.
Although he had explained very clearly that Gu Wennuan was only staying temporarily with her child, why hadn't he informed her in advance?
Even if Gu Wennuan's arrival in the capital was sudden, they spoke on the phone every day. He had plenty of opportunities to tell her.
The moment she left for Hong Kong, he had sent the maid on leave. Did that mean Gu Wennuan had already been living here for a week?
Tang Xi had a slight headache. She knew she shouldn't suspect Gu Yu of having an incestuous relationship with his own sister.
Throughout their three years of marriage, she could feel every bit of his goodness to her.
She was willing to trust him.
That night, Gu Yu did not return.
When Tang Xi called him again in the morning, his phone was already turned off.
A trace of discomfort lingered in her heart, until she walked downstairs and saw the man coming in with dark circles under his eyes.
"I'm sorry, darling," Gu Yu said, wrapping his arms around her wearily. His height of 185 centimeters was enough to completely envelop her. "I didn't see your calls until the middle of the night. I wanted to call you back, but I was afraid of disturbing your sleep."
"Did you stay up all night?" Tang Xi asked, feeling a pang of sympathy.
Gu Yu let go of her and lifted the bag in his hand, his handsome face filled with indulgence. "I queued up to buy your favorite soup dumplings. They're still hot. Hurry and try some."
Tang Xi loved the soup dumplings from this place, but they always required a two-hour wait in line.
She hadn't expected Gu Yu to lower himself to stand in line personally.
Then again, this wasn't the first or second time he had done something like this. As long as it was something she liked, he would present it to her with both hands.
"Is Xiaofeng alright?"
