Chapter 9: The Quarrel at the Kindergarten

Jiang Yun Yao woke up feeling groggy, with a strange sensation in her throat and a chill running through her body. She wrapped herself tightly in a small blanket and nudged Xie Yixing, who was in the adjacent bed, her voice hoarse. “Did we leave the window open last night? I feel so cold!”
Then she realized something was wrong. It was summer—how could she be cold?
Xie Yixing, still half-asleep, opened his eyes and sniffled a little. “Hmm? I feel the same. Maybe the air conditioning was set too low?”
Jiang Yun Yao suddenly had an idea and immediately checked both their foreheads. Sure enough, they were burning hot, like warm stoves.
With a blank expression, she said, “We probably caught a cold…”
Hearing this, Xie Yixing quickly got up and asked the crew for a couple of thermometers.
Five minutes later, they held up the thermometers.
Jiang Yun Yao: “39.3 degrees.”
Xie Yixing: “39.5 degrees.”
They exchanged a glance, grabbed blankets from the cabinet, and climbed back into bed.
As Jiang Yun Yao lay down, she pondered how they could have caught a cold. In the end, she concluded:
Even with the luck of a heroine blessing her, one mustn’t tempt fate too much—or else illness is inevitable!
[“Just yesterday I was full of energy, how did I suddenly get sick today?”]
[“Stayed up until 3 a.m. two nights ago, had intense exercise last night, sweated and then caught a breeze—it’s only natural to catch a cold, right?”]
[“I think it’s both normal and not normal. These two only realized they were sick the next morning and still didn’t get delirious. Their bodies and luck must be extraordinary.”]
[“Jiang Liangliang deserves it—hope she burns up!”]
[“You haters are too cruel. Jiang Yun Yao hasn’t done any harm, hasn’t hurt anyone. Why such hatred?”]
[“Ignore those who see everything in black and white—they only listen to gossip and don’t care about the truth!”]
[“I’m just curious: what are these two eating today?”]
The crew had only prepared food ingredients for the guests for the previous day. Normally, today would be a day for them to complete missions and buy their own food.
But given Jiang Yun Yao and Xie Yixing’s condition, the last thing they needed was to faint on the streets.
After some consideration, the director postponed the missions and schedule by a day and arranged to provide the guests with another day’s worth of ingredients.
Lin Wanwan, knowing that Jiang Yun Yao and Xie Yixing couldn’t cook, discussed with Lu Mucheng and brought all the ingredients to them, promising to deliver the finished meals.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yun Yao, wrapped in her blanket and holding a cup of hot water, sighed, “There really are more good people in the world.”

Xie Yixing nodded in agreement.
Jiang Yun Yao finished her hot water and was about to lie back down when she suddenly remembered something.
She tugged at Xie Yixing’s blanket and anxiously asked, “Where’s the dog?”
Since waking up, she hadn’t seen or heard the large white dog.
Xie Yixing looked even more puzzled. “I don’t know.”
Jiang Yun Yao was about to go look when her phone rang.
In her haste, she didn’t check whose phone it was and answered immediately, “Hello, who is this?”
“It’s me,” came the voice, as if the caller knew she had the wrong phone. “I’m Shen Zhao.”
Jiang Yun Yao handed the phone to Xie Yixing, quietly mouthing, “The creditor is calling.”
They had lost the dog, and the dog’s owner was their “creditor.”
Xie Yixing was speechless.
[“This is hilarious—‘creditor’ indeed! Jiang Yun Yao is too funny!”]
[“They just realized the dog was missing and immediately got a call from its owner. Their luck is unbelievable!”]
[“Isn’t that Samoyed pretty expensive?”]
[“Not just expensive—it’s a purebred. Smart and clever temperament, with fluffy, snow-white fur. Clearly bought with money!”]
[“Don’t you find it strange? Shen Zhao said he had urgent business and had to hand over his phone. So why is he calling now?”]
Shen Zhao’s call was simple: he wanted to inform them that his housekeeper had taken the dog away.
As for why, he said the dog couldn’t take care of people.
Jiang Yun Yao and Xie Yixing were speechless.
They were not so useless as to need a dog to look after them!
At noon, Lin Wanwan delivered lunch and Lu Mucheng brought them cold medicine.
Jiang Yun Yao, worried about infecting Lin Wanwan, asked her to leave the lunch boxes and medicine on the flowerbed outside the villa, and they would fetch them themselves.
Xie Yixing told her to wait while he ran over to get the items.
Watching him come back carrying the things, a thought suddenly popped into Jiang Yun Yao’s head.
When he returned, she said, “Don’t you think we’re a lot like prisoners in an ancient jail? When mealtime comes, the wardens hand out food, and we have to get it ourselves.”
Page 3/3
Xie Yixing played along, “If I were a prisoner, it would be because I did something earth-shattering and was caught!”
Jiang Yun Yao raised an eyebrow. “Like what?”
Xie Yixing: “An assassination attempt on the emperor!”
“Then you wouldn’t be locked up—you’d be taken to the market square to be beheaded!” Jiang Yun Yao said, miming a chopping motion at her neck.
Xie Yixing: “... Then I must have offended someone while doing chivalrous deeds and got thrown in!”
Jiang Yun Yao opened her lunchbox, turned to the kitchen to get two pairs of chopsticks, and handed one to Xie Yixing.
He held the chopsticks but didn’t move. “You haven’t said how you got caught!”
“Well...” Jiang Yun Yao teased, building suspense, “Of course, I was temporarily detained for punishing a tyrant and exposing a corrupt official!”
Xie Yixing smacked his lips. “That’s not so different from my situation.”
“Nope!” Jiang Yun Yao insisted. “You offended someone; I actively reported them! You were convicted; I’m just temporarily detained!”
Xie Yixing countered, “My just and upright judge hasn’t interrogated me yet, so no conviction! We’re basically the same!”
Jiang Yun Yao: “No, we’re not!”
Xie Yixing: “We are!”
“No!”
“Yes!”
The audience in the live chat watched the two bicker like kindergarteners, as if whoever spoke more times was right.
[“Are these two really adults?”]
[“Confirmed: Physically 25 years old; mentally 3.”]
[“One moment, a dramatic story; the next, a playground quarrel!”]
[“Lunch today is made by actor Lu—so excited!”]
[“Don’t get your hopes up. I just came from next door—Lu only made a light egg soup!”]
Lu Mucheng, considering their illness, only made egg soup, but it included some greens and minced meat, so it wasn’t completely bland.
After lunch, Jiang Yun Yao and Xie Yixing boiled hot water and prepared to take their medicine.
