Chapter 43 Delivering Herself Right to Him
I didn't continue watching; this was already enough. I slowly pulled up the zipper, quickly sweeping my flashlight across the ground to carefully check if I had left behind any personal items.
After the check, I took the bronze mirror and left the concrete pipeline network, walking down the mountain toward the backyard of Old Wan's residence.
The villa area where Old Wan lived was backed by a small hill, and a circular path passed right in front of his house.
A streak of black light flew rapidly toward me, darting straight into the bronze mirror in my hand without making a single sound. A woman in red stood right before me.
"Little brother truly is a man of his word," Han Cuiyun said, then let out a sound of surprise and continued, "Why is there still another presence inside my ghost token?"
"It's a grievance-ridden ghost. Just as his soul was about to scatter, he happened to see your ghost token and temporarily attached his spirit to it before it dissipated completely."
"Humph!" Han Cuiyun let out a cold snort. "Stupid man, courting death!"
"Whoosh," a puff of black qi flew out from the bronze mirror, and then the black qi dissipated.
I shook my head. Yellow-hair truly was a grievance-ridden ghost, dying in confusion and having his soul scatter in utter bewilderment.
Within three days of his death, he had hidden inside the ghost token without being registered in the ghost registry. With no family to care for him, he had become a masterless wandering ghost, making reincarnation completely impossible.
"Sister Han, I haven't found Wu Zhuang yet. Will you stay here at the Wan family, or seek another place for cultivation?" I asked casually.
"I am going with you."
I was instantly stunned! I cursed inwardly in my heart: Fang Yuan, oh Fang Yuan, you can't blame Han Cuiyun for saying your mouth is too loose. Of all things to say, why did you ask that?
"Big Sister, how can you come with me? In broad daylight, I still have to figure out a way to protect you."
"Tsk! The Yin energy on your body is heavy; it won't hurt me."
Damn it! Han Cuiyun's words provoked me instantly. I muttered to myself: Damn it, I might as well stop cultivating this body; practicing the ghost path seems much more suitable for me.
Han Cuiyun seemed to read my thoughts and said, "If your body had the opportunity to cultivate the ghost path, you could at least reach the green-faced level."
Among the ghost paths, the ranks were black, green, cyan, and white. A green-faced entity was truly a supreme overlord of a region.
I spat on the ground. "Big Sister Han, I'm living a perfectly good life as a human, and you want me to become a ghost. What are you thinking?"
Han Cuiyun smiled and said, "It's just a suggestion. When you reach that step, you will walk this path sooner or later."
Her words stunned me once again. My grandmother had never said anything like this, and Old Yellow had even given me Yellow Sixth Son to act as my bean soldier. Could it be that I actually had a second path to choose from?
"Sister Han, I have a bean soldier with me. If I cultivate the ghost path, what will happen to the bean soldier?"
"The same as you. The two of you cooperating means generally nobody of the same rank will be your match."
I was dumbfounded. What on earth was Old Yellow thinking? Could it really bear to let its own son become a great demon king instead of an earthly immortal?
"The immortal, the mortal, and the ghost paths each have their own ways, but all great roads lead to the same destination—he who succeeds is the king! So what if it's the demonic path? Isn't King Yama a ghost as well? They achieve the Dao just the same. Anyone who dares to speak ill of it in front of King Yama will find themselves wishing they were dead and unable to die." Han Cuiyun said at this moment.
Yet these words filled me with extreme astonishment. Could it be that my grandmother and Old Yellow had harbored this plan all along, and aside from the path to immortality, the ghost path was my other alternative?
I shook my head. If I got the chance, I would definitely have to ask my grandmother; if I kept guessing like this, I would go mad sooner or later.
"Alright, I need to rest for a bit as well. You take me to find Wu Zhuang, and this old lady will surely make him wish he were dead. I am definitely collecting this interest!"
Han Cuiyun's figure rolled violently, and a cluster of black qi vanished back into the bronze mirror.
I gripped the bronze mirror with a surge of joy in my heart—I had gained another helper.
Looking from the backyard, I saw that the lights in Old Wan's house were on, but the curtains inside were drawn. I immediately communicated with Yellow Sixth Son to reach out to Han Cuiyun.
Han Cuiyun lazily appeared before me and asked, "Little brother missed me so soon?"
A chill ran down my spine, and I hurriedly said, "Come on, Sister Han, you at least need to tell me how to communicate with you."
"Tsk! You claim your cultivation is shallow and you still refuse to admit it. Just channel your cultivation into the mirror's surface, and I'll know immediately that you're looking for me."
"Damn it, it's that simple!" My heart churned, and my mind immediately searched the booklet for the answer. Sure enough, it was recorded inside.
It turned out that if one wanted to contact a Yin spirit, one simply had to apply their own cultivation energy to the object and transmit their spiritual will.
I smacked my lips together and thought to myself: Damn it, my experience is still lacking! How is it that I learn as soon as I'm taught, become useless as soon as I use it, and panic the moment something happens right in front of me!
I quickly said, "Sister Han, I have one more thing. Can you help me check if the surroundings are safe? I want to go down the mountain."
"Tsk, you're just a poor kid, who would even bother robbing you?" Despite her words, Han Cuiyun still transformed into a streak of black shadow and flew off.
I shook my head with a wry smile. Boss Zhang mentioning Old Wan definitely wasn't without reason; I was truly worried about running into Boss Zhang here, and I was always afraid I wouldn't be able to explain the matter regarding Yellow-hair.
The black shadow returned, leaving behind a single sentence before flying back into the bronze mirror: "There is a car in the fork at the foot of the mountain, with two people inside."
I was startled. I had come up from the foot of the mountain back then and hadn't noticed any fork in the road; it seemed I had been spotted.
I immediately walked down the mountain path and really did see a car parked within the fork. This was a narrow path, and they had parked rather far away, blocked by the woods. Two people were smoking inside, and amidst the flickering glow of the fire, I saw that one of them was Wang Strong.
My heart skipped a beat—it was over! As long as Yellow-hair was discovered, my suspicion would undoubtedly be the greatest.
No matter how cleanly I had swept the concrete pipe, clues would still be left behind. The methods of those professionals were not something a greenhorn like me could anticipate.
I immediately lowered my body and headed back toward the vicinity of Old Wan's house, my mind racing to figure out a way to get out of this.
Slowly, an idea came to me: call Boss Zhang back and expose my own location. Based on the current state of the corpse's decomposition, the time of death would not align with my presence.
Thinking of this, I immediately returned to that concrete well opening, opened the lid, sat down at a distance, and picked up the phone.
"Beep... beep, beep."
"Hello, little brother, have you figured out how we'll cooperate?"
"Boss Zhang, I'm on the mountain north of Old Wan's villa. There is a concrete well opening there. The person you want is right there, and I've even thrown in an extra one."
"What? Are you certain!"
"I just came up from there, but I only came looking for people for you. You won't pin the suspicion on me, will you?" I probed cautiously.
The other end fell silent for three full seconds before suddenly laughing and saying, "How could that be? Little brother is overthinking it."
"Boss Zhang, I've finished the task you arranged. Can I leave now?"
"Hold on!" Boss Zhang's hurried voice came through the phone. A jolt went through my heart, and my pulse accelerated as I thought to myself that something was going wrong!
"Little brother, I want to know how you managed to find the person? He has been missing for days, and we could never find him?"
I let out a long sigh of relief and said, "Does Boss Zhang remember what I do for a living?"
The other end of the line fell silent for a moment before continuing, "Alright, little brother, you may leave. As for the matter I mentioned, please be sure to handle it for me. Thank you."
