Chapter 7: The Immortal Sect’s Night—A Sinister Demon’s Assault
Li Chen and Lin Ying spent some time admiring the treasured sword. After a brief contest, they returned to their sect to pay respects to their master, Kunlunzi. After inquiring about recent matters, Kunlunzi cautioned them to be more vigilant and prudent in the future, warning against recklessness and showing off.
The two returned to their respective chambers to wash and change. After dining together, they resumed their cultivation—ingesting elixirs, absorbing spirit stones, and practicing swift aerial flight techniques, rapid throwing knife maneuvering, and the Seal of Demon Subjugation and Evil Dispelling Incantation.
As night fell, a mysterious mist enveloped the Kunlun Immortal Sect. At the mountain gate, eerie teal-green lights began to appear. These ghostly lights gradually coalesced into the form of a woman garbed in brilliantly colorful attire. She held a glazed lantern emanating the same teal glow, her gaze cold and bloodthirsty. The outer disciples, astonished, noticed the girl advancing toward the palace atop the mountain, each step seemingly treading upon ripples of time itself.
Inside the palace, elders immersed in cultivation sensed an ominous presence and slowly drew their magical weapons and swords. Under the eerie glow of the lantern, the colorful-clad woman suddenly lunged forward. The lantern’s spectral light struck the elder, who immediately fell backward, eyes staring blankly at the sky.
Before the disciples could react, an ancient, urgent tolling of bells echoed from the main peak. The sound waves pierced the mist and reverberated throughout the sect. Embedded within the bell chimes was an old, potent force and a summoning call. With each toll, strange ripples shimmered in the air around the sect, as if space and time were gently warped.
Suddenly, groups of figures clad in black appeared before the disciples, brandishing knives, swords, and other deadly weapons—enemies. The mysterious woman, now flickering in and out of sight under the night sky, led these black-clad assailants in a fierce assault on the mountain’s palaces.
Amid the bell’s ringing, a radiant light bathed the sky over Kunlun Mountain, turning the world as bright as day. The eighteen peaks of Kunlun formed ranks and advanced collectively toward the main summit. Hearing the bell toll, Li Chen grasped his sword and rushed out. “Demons attack! All prepare for battle!” the Great Elder shouted fiercely.
Thousands of Kunlun masters had already surrounded the invaders on the halfway path to the summit. These attackers, fewer than a thousand in number, had hoped for a stealthy strike. Now forced into open combat, they found themselves at a disadvantage.
The cold woman in the colorful dress raised her glazed lantern and called out to the mountain, “Kunlun Immortal Sect! Kunlunzi, do you dare to face me, Qinglv Hua?”
“Demon Cult Leader Qinglv Hua, who gave you the audacity to attack Kunlun Immortal Sect?” Kunlunzi retorted.
“You hypocritical, fame-seeking false Taoists! Every disciple of my Divine Cult is ready to act on my behalf!” she declared.
Such words bewildered the younger disciples.
Qinglv Hua’s voice was unwavering, carrying far and wide.
At that moment, Kunlunzi bellowed, “Kunlun disciples, heed my command! Exterminate the evil completely! Leave no demon cultist alive! Kill!”
Instantly, the roar of battle thundered as warriors charged from all directions.
Three elders charged directly at Qinglv Hua. Before reaching her, the teal glow of her lantern flashed repeatedly, and the three elders froze momentarily before collapsing to the ground—unable to withstand a single strike from the soul-capturing glazed lantern.
Kunlunzi then moved to the side and blew a bamboo flute. Its piercing, triumphant melody stirred the air like clashing armor and galloping steeds.
Hundreds of lower-ranked demon cultists fell prone. Kunlunzi shouted, “Kill!” and replaced the flute with his great sword. With unstoppable force, he cut through enemies like slicing through melons, swiftly slaying numerous formidable foes.
Qinglv Hua gritted her teeth, the teal light in her lantern flashing fiercely as Kunlun disciples fell one after another. Lin Ying was severely wounded by the soul attack from Qinglv Hua’s high-level artifact and collapsed. Though her cultivation was slightly higher, allowing her to survive, she lost all her skills, suffered intense spiritual pain, and her memories were wiped clean—her mind a blank slate.
Later, Li Chen, looking distraught and troubled, requested leave from Kunlunzi and took Lin Ying home to recuperate. Before parting, Kunlunzi handed him hundreds of elixir bottles, half intended for Lin Ying’s recovery. But that was a story for another time.
At this moment, Kunlunzi had reached Qinglv Hua. The glazed lantern shot its teal light at him, but with a flash of his sword, Qinglv Hua’s lantern fell from her grasp. She could not withstand Kunlunzi’s strike. Her face turned pale, and she attempted to flee, but Kunlunzi closed in with another sword flash, severing her head silently—she did not even have time to scream.
Li Chen wielded the Demon-Slaying sword, following closely behind Kunlunzi. Each of them cut down dozens of enemies along the way. Witnessing Kunlunzi defeat the Demon Cult Leader with just two sword strikes, they were filled with astonishment and admiration.
After a while, except for two prisoners left alive, the entire Demon Cult army was annihilated.
The disciples of Kunlun Immortal Sect cleaned the battlefield and gathered spoils. Kunlunzi and the senior elders escorted the two prisoners back to the palace for interrogation.
The thousand-strong Demon Cult assault was highly suspicious—so sudden and unexpected. How could such a small force dare to recklessly challenge the Kunlun Mountain Sect?
The truth behind this attack must be thoroughly investigated.
