Chapter Seven: She Is Remarkable
She took a deep breath and said with some reluctance, "Mom, I want to handle these matters my own way. I know you mean well, but I don't want any ties to the Huo family." Su Mian’s voice was gentle yet resolute.
A dissatisfied snort came from the other end of the line—Lin Xiu was clearly displeased with that answer.
“Mianmian, do you know how influential the Huo Group is? You’ve got a stable position there; don’t keep chasing unreliable things. Also, since you’re separating from Qin Yunzhen, make sure to get back your dad’s shares with interest—don’t let them take advantage of you.”
Su Mian furrowed her brows. “Mom, I will handle my affairs well. You just stay put at the Huo family and don’t worry.”
She didn’t want to get tangled in this topic any longer. “I have some other matters to attend to. I’ll call you when I have time.”
Before the other side could say more, Su Mian hastily ended the call.
She gazed out the window as sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, casting a warm, tranquil glow across the floor.
That afternoon, Su Mian arrived punctually at the interview venue for Yingtai International.
From the moment she stepped inside, an aura of prestige enveloped her. The decor was lavish yet minimalist and grand.
Su Mian couldn’t help but be impressed.
Nearby, voices from a conversation drew her attention. Her gaze shifted and met that of a striking woman.
The woman was dressed head to toe in luxury brands, standing near the coffee machine, laughing and joking with several other employees.
Su Mian felt a flicker of familiarity. Upon closer inspection, she recognized her—it was her university classmate Sun Qian. Back then, Sun Qian always hovered around Qin Yunzhen, rarely returning to the dormitory; few knew the nature of her connection to the Qin family.
Sun Qian recognized Su Mian at the same time.
She admired her manicured nails and drawled mockingly, “Oh? Is that Su Mian? Long time no see. Here for an interview?”
Su Mian sensed the hostility but didn’t give her the slightest glance.
Sun Qian, ignored, felt uncomfortable and arrogantly sized Su Mian up from head to toe.
Her disdain deepened as she sneered, “Some people just don’t know their place, don’t realize their own limitations, and yet dare casually come to Yingtai for an interview.”
“Even if you want to interview, you need to dress properly. Yingtai places great emphasis on employees’ appearance; they don’t hire just any trash.”
Su Mian smiled casually, narrowing her eyes as she studied the outfit Sun Qian wore.
Then she chuckled softly, deliberately looking at the other colleagues standing nearby, and remarked coldly, “Your clothes are nice, quite pretty.”
Sun Qian beamed with pride, thinking Su Mian had just recognized her luxury brand outfit and was flattering her.
“But the label’s upside down. Maybe you bought a counterfeit,” Su Mian added carelessly.
Her tone was both disdainful and tinged with playful sarcasm.
Sun Qian’s expression instantly changed; the smile froze on her face, clearly embarrassed and unable to recover.
Under the gaze of others, she looked both awkward and furious.
“What do you mean? Pretending to know when you don’t!”
Sun Qian, humiliated and angry, seemed ready to explode.
Just then, it was her turn to enter the interview.
As Su Mian stepped into the interview room, she glanced back at Sun Qian, who was stomping her feet in anger. Su Mian smiled faintly—just that was enough to drive her nearly insane. Delightful!
Su Mian entered the room and was met by the stern expressions of several interviewers. She steadied herself and greeted them with a warm smile.
Immediately, the gaze of the interviewer on the far left, Lin Mu, fixed on her, examining her intently for a long moment.
Su Mian caught the glance out of the corner of her eye, surprised, then quickly composed herself.
Lin Mu suddenly seemed to recall something, a trace of surprise flickering in his mind as a smile spread across his face.
Silently, he unlocked his phone and quickly sent a message to Huo Beihan: “She came for the interview. I’ll take good care of her, make sure you thank me.”
He locked his phone and looked back at Su Mian.
The lead interviewer spoke first: “Miss Su, may I ask which area of financial investment you have experience or interest in?”
Hearing the question, Su Mian relaxed. This was her strongest subject.
She began to speak confidently, covering market analysis, risk management, and some project experiences from her previous company, her words flowing with assurance.
Lin Mu nodded slightly, his impression of Su Mian deepening.
Though partly from personal motives, he hoped she would perform well, and at this moment, he sensed her confidence was genuine, built on solid expertise rather than empty bluff.
“Well then,” another interviewer asked, “how do you view the balance between teamwork and individual ability in the success of a project?”
Su Mian smiled thoughtfully before replying, “To me, teamwork and individual ability are like melody and harmony in a symphony. Individual ability is the melody, providing the core value for the project, while teamwork is the harmony, offering support and assurance to achieve the goal. Only through their perfect combination can the music of success be played.”
The interviewers nodded repeatedly, clearly pleased with her answer.
Finally, their gazes turned to Lin Mu. As Director of the Investment Department at Yingtai, the assistant director position was meant to work under him. He had already prepared to personally select candidates; everyone awaited his final judgment.
Lin Mu looked at Su Mian, a slight smile tugging at his lips. “Miss Su, I believe you are very suitable for this position.”
Su Mian’s heart leapt with joy, and she thanked them calmly.
What she didn’t notice was the meaningful smile lingering in Lin Mu’s eyes.
After the interview, Su Mian stepped out of the room and exhaled softly.
Though she had prepared herself mentally, passing smoothly still brought a wave of relief.
At the same time, Lin Mu picked up his phone and sent Huo Beihan a message: “Don’t worry, she’s excellent.”
