Chapter 60 Huo Beihan Gets Troubled
Su Mian watched as Huo Beihan drove away before she finally went back inside.
Sitting on the sofa, her thoughts raced. She remained in a daze for I know not how long, until she was startled back to reality by a pleasant ringing tone from her phone.
As soon as Su Mian answered, she heard Wen Ke'ning's frantic voice, "Mianmian, where on earth are you? You're not home in the middle of the night!"
Feeling somewhat bewildered, she asked, "I am at home? Ke'ning, what do you mean by that?"
Wen Ke'ning let out an awkward laugh. "Are you kidding with me? I'm your best friend, not your man, you don't need to be on your guard against me. Quick, tell me where you are."
Hearing that the voice was actually coming from right outside her front door, Su Mian hung up the phone and opened the door.
"You really are at home?" Wen Ke'ning stepped inside, looking somewhat perplexed. "Since you were home, why didn't you open the door when I kept ringing the doorbell?"
Su Mian choked on her words, unable to utter a single syllable for a long time.
Wen Ke'ning looked at her with a hint of worry. "Mianmian, tell me honestly, did that bastard Huo Beihan bully you?"
This girl's mental state was even worse than yesterday, and she reeked of alcohol.
Seeing not a single empty bottle in Su Mian's apartment, Wen Ke'ning's anger flared up instantly. "What on earth happened to make you sink so low, living in a drunken stupor every single day, and going out to drink without even calling me along!"
Thinking back to what happened yesterday still sent chills down her spine, yet she had been fearless in her ignorance.
Su Mian rubbed her aching head. "Ke'ning, are you a machine gun firing a continuous volley of questions? Besides, I only went out for a corporate dinner tonight; it wouldn't have been appropriate to drag you along."
Wen Ke'ning refused to believe it, assuming Su Mian was merely making up excuses to brush her off.
"Mianmian, you already lost half your life over Qin Yunzheng; you absolutely cannot repeat past mistakes and walk down that old road again."
The more she talked, the angrier Wen Ke'ning became. She rolled up her sleeves, ready to go settle scores with Huo Beihan. "Tell me where Huo Beihan lives. Today, I am going to get justice for you, no matter what!"
Fearing that Wen Ke'ning might offend Huo Beihan, Su Mian quickly grabbed her and made assurances over and over again. "Ke'ning, calm down. Big Brother has always been very good to me."
So what if he was good to her? If he couldn't marry her and bring her home, he was nothing more than an outright scumbag.
Just as Wen Ke'ning was about to lecture her further, she noticed that Su Mian's body temperature was frighteningly high.
She pressed her hand against Su Mian's forehead. "Mianmian, are you sick?"
Just a moment ago, she had claimed that Huo Beihan was very good to her. Since he was so good, how could he not even notice that she was sick?
"No way, we need to go to the hospital right now." Wen Ke'ning draped a coat over Su Mian's shoulders and hurriedly took her out the door.
Running a high fever of thirty-nine degrees Celsius, Su Mian fell fast asleep shortly after the IV drip was started at the hospital.
Wen Ke'ning wanted to call Huo Beihan, only to discover that Su Mian seemed to have left her phone at home.
As an entertainment journalist, it was hardly difficult for her to find out where such prominent figures were.
She called a colleague and said, "Do me a favor and check if anyone has any information on Huo Beihan's whereabouts."
The person on the other end immediately put on a stern face and sarcastically retorted, "Do you take me for the turtle in the wishing well, or Erlang Shen's divine hound?"
Wen Ke'ning's tone was dead serious. "I'm not messing around with you. Haven't you been breaking all those major stories lately?"
Hearing this, the colleague instantly lost his temper, hurriedly hung up the phone, and went to take care of the matter for Wen Ke'ning.
An hour later, her colleague sent her a text message: [Huo Beihan is at Riding Wind Bar. Get here fast!]
Seeing that Su Mian was still fast asleep, Wen Ke'ning gave the nurse a few brief instructions before rushing off to Riding Wind Bar.
Just as Shen Tingzhou stepped out for a bathroom break, he saw Wen Ke'ning storming into the bar in a whirlwind of fury.
If he didn't have some confidence in his own acting skills, he would have suspected that Wen Ke'ning was coming after him to settle old scores.
Just as he was thinking of hiding, he heard the waiter behind him call out, "President Shen, this young lady isn't listening to reason and insists on going in to see President Huo. What should we do?"
Caught face-to-face, Shen Tingzhou turned around speechlessly. Wen Ke'ning's narrowed gaze made him feel somewhat guilty. "Honey, you've got it all wrong. The servers at bars are all like this—whenever they see someone dressed nicely, they just address them as president or boss."
Wen Ke'ning had no patience for such nonsense right now. She grabbed him by the collar, gritting her teeth, "You know where Huo Beihan is, don't you?"
Why on earth was she looking for that guy? Had she grown tired of living?
"Tell me, where is he?"
Shen Tingzhou swallowed hard. "Why are you looking for him? Besides, that man has a notoriously bad temper; he's not someone people like us can afford to cross."
Couldn't afford to cross him? Wen Ke'ning let out a cold laugh. Even if he were a real tiger, she'd pluck a couple of whiskers from him today.
Shen Tingzhou, however, was breaking out in a cold sweat. If Huo Beihan were truly provoked, not only would Wen Ke'ning be in deep trouble, but he himself would likely be unable to protect his own skin.
"Honey, let's stop making a scene and go home, okay?"
Wen Ke'ning snorted coldly. "I chose you in the first place because you looked decent and were obedient. Now that you're being so disobedient, what do I even need you for?"
This woman was utterly unreasonable. Who else would talk about getting a divorce over the slightest disagreement like this?
Although it was a sham marriage, they had still been living under the same roof for so long; how could she say such hurtful words?
Seeing that Shen Tingzhou truly had no intention of helping, Wen Ke'ning pushed him aside. "Get lost. I'll deal with you later."
Hearing someone shouting his name outside the door, Huo Beihan was just about to open it to see what was going on when Wen Ke'ning already burst in. "I've been looking for you everywhere, and here you've been hiding all along?"
Hiding? What on earth did she mean by that?
Shen Tingzhou arrived tardily and hurriedly stepped forward to pull Wen Ke'ning back. "Honey, let's go home. I'm begging you."
"Get lost!" Wen Ke'ning glared angrily at the man sitting immovably in his chair and continued, "Huo Beihan, what kind of person do you think you are? What gives you the right to bully my Mianmian?"
"Since you can't even master your own life, you shouldn't go around toying with hers. She drinks herself to sleep every night because of you, living in a daze day after day, and couldn't even hear the doorbell when she was all alone at home."
Huo Beihan felt she was being utterly absurd. He had just sent Su Mian home, so what kind of nervous breakdown was Wen Ke'ning having here?
He frowned deeply. "Hey, Shen, take your own wife away and keep her from going insane in front of me."
Originally, Huo Beihan had a rather favorable impression of Wen Ke'ning. After all, she was the first person to suggest that he and Su Mian had no blood relation and could pursue a relationship. Yet only a short time had passed, and she had come running over like a lunatic to point fingers and blame him.
Shen Tingzhou silently thanked Huo Beihan in his heart for not ruining his marriage just because of his own romantic frustrations.
He hurriedly grabbed Wen Ke'ning and dragged her toward the door. "Honey, let's go home. I'm begging you."
Wen Ke'ning protested indignantly on Su Mian's behalf, "Why should I go back? Mianmian is suffering to death because of him, and she's already running a fever and hospitalized! What right does he have to be here living it up and making merry!"
