Chapter Five: Why Have You Come to My House Again?
As the saying goes, roommates for four years become like father and son for life. Now that graduation has come, everyone has scattered across the world, and no one knows when they will meet again!
That kid Lü Hao stayed behind at Shenzhen University for graduate studies, so meeting him wouldn't be difficult.
Wu Haiping returned to the provincial capital, Guangzhou, to prepare for the civil service exam.
Zhang Jianlong went back to the metropolis to work at his own company.
Who knows when he would see those two roommates again?
Chen Jiang rubbed his temples, stopped overthinking, pulled the covers over himself, and turned off the light to sleep.
…
The next morning.
Early at dawn, Chen Jiang felt something pressing on his stomach, making him uncomfortable.
Sunlight was already sneaking through the cracks in the curtains—he hadn’t closed them properly last night.
Fortunately, winter sunlight wasn’t harsh.
He slowly opened his eyes and instinctively reached toward his stomach, touching something soft…
It was the big fat ginger cat!
Wait, the big fat ginger cat—Yiyun Xue’s little orange feline?!!
Chen Jiang instantly woke up, throwing off the blanket.
“Meow!”
The fat cat let out a disgruntled meow.
Clearly, it had been very warm under the blanket, and now that Chen Jiang had uncovered it, the cold air disturbed its sleep.
“Didn’t you go back already?” Chen Jiang looked bewildered.
He lifted the chubby cat—its weight confirmed it was definitely her.
“Could I have been dreaming?”
He pinched his thigh to confirm he felt pain.
“You silly cat, how did you get out again?”
“And wasn’t my place locked? How did you get in?”
Chen Jiang was utterly puzzled.
He quickly checked the home surveillance footage.
In a corner of the screen, a plump cat suddenly appeared on the balcony, slipped through a window gap, then swaggered into Chen Jiang’s bedroom, which hadn’t been closed.
“You climbed in through the balcony?”
Chen Jiang was dumbfounded—after all, this was the twentieth floor!
Despite being so fat, the cat actually dared to climb like that.
They say cats have nine lives, but from such a height, even nine lives wouldn’t save it; it’d turn into a pancake.
“So you must have climbed down the balcony before as well?” Chen Jiang looked at the fat ginger cat with helplessness.
He snapped a photo of the orange cat and sent it to Yiyun Xue:
“Your cat came to my place again. When you wake up, come get her.”
Yiyun Xue replied immediately: “I just noticed she was missing; didn’t expect she’d come to yours again.”
“Wait for me, I’ll wash up first, then come get her.”
Chen Jiang changed clothes and got up to freshen up.
Just as he stepped out of the bathroom, the doorbell rang.
Opening the door, Yiyun Xue stood there holding a transparent bag filled with soy milk and steamed buns.
“This time, I didn’t kidnap her; she came on her own,” Chen Jiang joked.
“I know. She woke you up early and disturbed you. Sorry about that,” Yiyun Xue said apologetically.
“I brought you breakfast.”
“You got this for me? Thanks!” Chen Jiang was surprised.
“Let me show you a video.”
He played the surveillance footage for her, and she finally understood how her little orange cat escaped.
“So that’s how it happened. The balcony window at my place wasn’t closed either. Looks like she slipped out from there.”
The apartments in this building have a small window on the wall leading from the balcony to the inside.
Sometimes this small window isn’t tightly closed, and even when closed, it’s easy to push open. But the window is so small that even a person's head can’t fit through, so most people overlook it.
Unexpectedly, it became the silly cat’s opportunity.
“Your balcony is a bit longer than mine; I guess she used that to jump onto your balcony,” Yiyun Xue analyzed.
“She probably jumped onto your place first, then found a chance to sneak out.”
“No wonder the flowerpots on the balcony were knocked over before,” Chen Jiang suddenly realized.
“I’ll put a cover over that small window when I get home,” Yiyun Xue said.
“By the way, my agent already sent the electronic contract last night.”
“I’m buying this song from you personally, so no need to go through company accounts. We can just use the e-sign process.”
“Alright,” Chen Jiang nodded.
With modern technology, many contracts can be signed online with the same legal effect as paper contracts.
“Fill in the song title and your signature first,” Yiyun Xue opened the electronic contract on her phone.
“The song is called ‘Encounter’? You’re signing with your real name? No pen name?”
She asked curiously.
Chen Jiang signed his name at the end of the contract: “No need for a pen name. There are plenty of people named Chen Jiang, and fans usually don’t specifically follow the lyricist or composer.”
Outside of the industry, few pay attention to who writes a song’s lyrics or melody.
“I’ll send you the sheet music.”
“Okay,” Yiyun Xue replied.
After finishing the contract business, Chen Jiang noticed Yiyun Xue was still wearing a pale pink robe, her small head wrapped in a hat with bunny ears standing upright.
Her cheeks were flushed from the cold, obviously without makeup, but her skin was excellent—slightly yellowish but flawless.
It gave her a natural charm.
Her lips were moist and glistening, likely with lip balm applied.
Without lipstick, her lips were tenderly pink.
A kiss on those lips would surely feel soft…
Her face was truly delicate; even many actresses in the entertainment industry couldn’t compare to Yiyun Xue’s natural beauty.
“You went out wearing that to buy breakfast?”
Chen Jiang couldn’t help but laugh and cry.
“Anyway, the breakfast was bought inside the neighborhood. Fans can’t get in here, so even if they took photos, it’s just a robe,” Yiyun Xue said casually.
“It’s just too cold today; the robe keeps me warm.”
“Where’s Little Orange?”
Yiyun Xue asked.
“Sleeping on my bed. Wait a moment.”
Chen Jiang went into the room and lifted the big fat ginger cat out.
Yiyun Xue took the cat, thanked him, and smiled, “When you have new songs, remember to keep me in mind.”
“Definitely,” Chen Jiang promised.
Yiyun Xue, as the fastest rising female singer in the Chinese music scene over recent years, already had popularity comparable to some music divas.
But in terms of song recognition and quality, she still lagged behind those divas.
This had sparked many netizens’ doubts.
“Is Yiyun Xue’s title as a rising diva really deserved?”
She urgently needed high-quality songs to prove herself and pave the way to becoming a true diva.
“Well, I’ll head back first.”
Yiyun Xue left with the big fat orange cat.
After she left, Chen Jiang looked toward the door and muttered, “This girl is really beautiful.”
He added silently, “Most importantly, her looks fit perfectly with my taste!”
Even without makeup and dressed in pajamas, she was far beyond those heavily made-up internet celebrities.
No wonder people in the entertainment industry sighed: such a naturally gifted actress ending up in the music world was a waste of talent.
This was the legendary case of someone who could easily rely on her looks but chose to rely on her talent instead.
…
Elsewhere.
Yiyun Xue returned home with the little orange cat and locked her in a cage.
She then focused on reviewing the sheet music.
“This song is really amazing!”
A gleam shone in Yiyun Xue’s eyes.
She pictured Chen Jiang’s face in her mind—handsome, at least not worse than the pop stars she had met.
He also had a kind of masculinity that those fresh-faced idols lacked.
More importantly, he was very talented!
With just these two songs, once released, he could immediately rise to become a top-tier lyricist and composer.
With these as a foundation, as long as his future songs weren’t too poor, he would inevitably become a gold-level songwriter!
