Volume One, Chapter Eight: It's All Your Mother's Fault for Spoiling You!

Having flattered others for so long, Chen Ping experienced for the first time this feeling of superiority. Suddenly invigorated, she boasted to the group, “Actually, my younger daughter isn’t all that capable. The real treasure of our family is my eldest daughter, Xue’er.”
As she spoke, she tugged at Jiang Xue’er’s hand to introduce her to everyone. “Xue’er, come call them over.”
Jiang Xue’er shyly lowered her head and called the others one by one. Inwardly, she brimmed with pride—no matter how Jiang Chenyu married into the Qin family, she was still just a stepping stone for her.
Those at the table wanted to learn more about Jiang Chenyu but didn’t want to offend Jiang Chenyu’s mother. So, they insincerely praised Jiang Xue’er a little.
This only delighted Chen Ping further, and she began bragging about Jiang Xue’er’s various talents, savoring the joy of being the leader of a small clique for the first time.
The group exchanged glances, each seeing the same disdain in the others’ eyes. Yet no one spoke up to spoil the mood; instead, they listened patiently and occasionally nodded in approval.
Jiang Chao and Jiang Daming were also quietly pleased. Seeing Jiang Chenyu chatting happily with Old Master Qin, they couldn’t help but wonder how long the cooperation period in the contract would be extended—three years, five years, ten years, or perhaps a lifelong partnership...
If it were lifelong, the Jiang family would finally establish a firm foothold among the upper echelons of the capital.
As he thought this, Jiang Chao couldn’t help but worry, “Chenyu doesn’t know our pricing. What if she asks for too low a price? Wouldn’t the more cooperation we have, the more we lose?”
Nearby, General Guan heard this and shook his head in exasperation, unable to understand how someone so shortsighted had come this far.
Nevertheless, Jiang Daming disagreed with Jiang Chao, replying, “Don’t worry, we’ll go talk to President Qin later to gauge the situation. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll have Chenyu negotiate again. If she loses money, she should make it up herself!”
Father and son quietly schemed as if they had already secured a major contract—and even imagined themselves becoming the Qin family’s principal client.
But by the time the banquet ended, they never got the chance to approach President Qin.
Let alone exchange a word with Old Master Qin.
After waiting outside for a long time, a secretary finally approached them and said, “President Qin is feeling unwell and cannot receive visitors for long. If you have matters to discuss, please make an appointment at the company another day.”
“Didn’t you say we are family of Jiang Chenyu?” Jiang Chao asked impatiently.
The secretary gave a polite smile and said, “I have other matters to attend to. I won’t disturb you further.”
With others watching nearby, this response embarrassed the group somewhat, causing their faces to lose some dignity.

“Chenyu is just being childish, afraid that once we connect with the Qin family, they won’t need her anymore. She purposely doesn’t want the Qin family to meet us,” Jiang Xue’er sighed helplessly, rubbing her forehead.
The others immediately realized that if Jiang Chenyu hadn’t made trouble, the Qin family wouldn’t have ignored them like this.
“Call that troublesome girl and tell her if she doesn’t come within ten minutes, we’re not waiting for her!” Jiang Daming said fiercely to Jiang Chao.
Jiang Chao sighed, feeling that Jiang Chenyu was acting unreasonably, yet had no choice but to take out his phone and call her.
The phone rang three times before she answered.
“Jiang Chenyu, why aren’t you picking up your phone?” Jiang Chao sounded a bit impatient. She used to answer immediately.
But instead of an apology, he was met with an even more impatient voice, “What do you want?”
“What kind of attitude is that?” Jiang Chao frowned, suddenly recalling that Jiang Chenyu controlled the orders between the Jiang family and the Qin family. He tried to soften his tone, “Where are you? We’re waiting for you at the door to go home together.”
“No need. I’m already home,” Jiang Chenyu said with a hint of amusement. If she hadn’t been called a beggar in front of outsiders, she might have been moved to tears.
Jiang Chao paused. “Why didn’t you tell us you went home?”
“How hilarious. You don’t even know me. Why would I come running to you begging for food?” Jiang Chenyu sneered. “Anything else? If not, I’m hanging up.”
Jiang Chao was dizzy from the unfamiliar tone. He glanced at the screen to check if he had dialed the wrong number.
But while he confirmed, the other side had already hung up.
This was outrageous!
Jiang Chao immediately turned, fuming, to find Jiang Daming and exaggeratedly reported Jiang Chenyu’s behavior. They had to make their father properly reprimand her so she would realize that he was her only support in this family.
Meanwhile, Jiang Chenyu ended the call and continued packing all the talismans and feng shui ornaments she had stashed at home into her treasure pouch, along with all her belongings, into her pants pocket.
She didn’t have much luggage even without the storage talisman.
Since she was taken away by her master from the Jiang family at six years old, she had spent only a handful of days at home each year. All her memories of this house dated before she turned six.
As for after six, they were nothing but her chasing after this family—and her unwillingness to lose to Jiang Xue’er...
On her way downstairs, she happened to meet the Jiang family returning from the banquet.
They seemed to be teasing Jiang Xue’er, causing her cheeks to flush with embarrassment and anger.

But the moment they saw Jiang Chenyu, their expressions simultaneously darkened.
“Where are you off to again?” Jiang Daming frowned and scanned Jiang Chenyu from head to toe with disapproval.
The Qin family was truly blind to be fooled by Jiang Chenyu.
“She’s grown wings and climbed onto a higher branch. How could she still look down on the family that raised her?” Chen Ping sneered sarcastically, wanting to vent all the grievances she suffered tonight onto Jiang Chenyu.
Jiang Chenyu no longer tried to justify herself as before. Instead, she tilted her head and smiled mockingly, “So it was you who raised me. I thought I was really a beggar, barely surviving by begging.”
Their faces stiffened, growing somewhat unpleasant.
“Chenyu, Mom only cares about this family. She’s afraid you’ll cause trouble and it won’t end well. Why do you have to mock her like this?” Jiang Xue’er protested indignantly.
Chen Ping’s nose twitched, holding Jiang Xue’er’s hand, moved, “Xue’er, no one in this family understands me better than you.”
Such a touching “mother-daughter bond.”
Yet—
“Did I say I was mocking Mom? Or do you think Mom is the only one at the Qin family gate who won’t acknowledge me?” Jiang Chenyu scoffed.
Chen Ping froze for a moment, never having thought about things from this perspective.
Before she could ponder further, Jiang Daming loudly scolded, “Jiang Chenyu, look at yourself! Sharp-tongued, acting strangely—it’s all because your mother spoiled you!”
He shot a fierce glare at Chen Ping as he said the last sentence, making her feel bad again—blaming Jiang Chenyu, this ungrateful daughter. If only Xue’er were her biological daughter, she wouldn’t have to suffer such insults.
Jiang Chao, harboring other thoughts, stepped forward gently and soothed in a low voice, “Chenyu, don’t blame everyone for being strict with you. They only worry you’ll cause trouble and embarrass the family. Everyone only wants what’s best for you.”
In the past, whenever their father scolded Jiang Chenyu, if he comforted her even a little, she would immediately run into his arms and cry her heart out.
But this time, after waiting for a long while, she didn’t approach. Instead, she looked at them coldly, as if watching clowns.
He silently cursed her for being so ungrateful and lacking social skills—offering her a way out, yet she refused to take it.
Just as he was about to drop another hint, Jiang Chenyu’s impatience finally surfaced.
