In the living room.
Gu Jinyan was eating breakfast, his features delicate and refined, and his manner of eating slow and graceful, making it a pleasure to watch.
Even though Jiang Chenyu had long known he was handsome, she couldn’t help but swallow in admiration.
Gu Jinyan noticed and, thinking she was hungry, smiled lightly and said, “Breakfast is in the kitchen. I’m heading to the company soon, so I didn’t wait for you.”
“Oh, no need to wait for me,” Jiang Chenyu replied, but inside she felt a bit satisfied.
When she was at the Jiang family home, the servants wouldn’t cook for her, and her family never waited to eat together.
Whether or not Gu Jinyan was just being polite, she appreciated the gesture.
She hurried to the kitchen and immediately saw the breakfast warming in the microwave. She took it out, steam still rising.
Gu Jinyan’s meals were all arranged by a dedicated nutritionist. Last night, during dinner, Gu Jinyan had the nutritionist specially inquire about her preferences and tastes.
Taking a bite of the specially prepared porridge now, its aroma made her dizzy with delight.
Satisfied, she swallowed a few mouthfuls and noticed Gu Jinyan across from her, still holding his spoon but not eating. She asked curiously, “Aren’t you eating?”
“I don’t have much of an appetite,” Gu Jinyan said casually, though since falling ill he had lost his taste for food. Everything tasted bland. If not for forcing himself to eat just to stay alive, he might starve quietly at home.
This was why Gu Jinyan’s parents insisted on living in the apartment below—to ensure he wouldn’t die unnoticed.
Jiang Chenyu didn’t know the full story but could see he was forcing himself.
Thinking of the little tadpole during her cultivation, her eyes flickered as she asked, “Do you have any feng shui ornaments at home?”
Gu Jinyan didn’t understand her meaning but shook his head. “I didn’t believe in that stuff before.”
Not believing before meant she believed now?
Jiang Chenyu’s vanity was greatly satisfied. “Something in your house is stealing your luck. I’ll find time to help you look for it.”
Gu Jinyan was momentarily stunned but quickly chuckled, “Thank you, the most talented little sorcerer in the world.”
He remembered she once called herself a “sorcerer.”
Jiang Chenyu shook her head playfully; her search for the cursed item was not only for Gu Jinyan’s sake but also to prevent it from affecting her daily cultivation.
Otherwise, if she cultivated less and still got robbed of energy, what kind of fool would she be?
But since Gu Jinyan was so cooperative, she took out a treasure pouch from her pocket and pulled out an anti-evil potted plant she had made for the Jiang family, smiling brightly, “This wards off evil and misfortune. It’s a priceless treasure, so let’s just keep it here for now.”
The playful rising tone of her voice revealed her good mood—he was truly easy to please.
Gu Jinyan, thinking this over, couldn’t help but feel a little happier. Looking down at the food before him, he suddenly found it less difficult to eat.
Unusually, he finished everything in his bowl and even ate half of the special bread.
After eating, he seemed more spirited and talkative. “After you finish, put the dishes in the kitchen. I’ll wash them tonight when I come back. Tell the nutritionist what you want for lunch. I’ll come home early to pick you up for dinner downstairs.”
“Oh.” Jiang Chenyu blinked, somewhat puzzled. Gu Jinyan looked so refined and noble—yet he washed dishes himself?

At Jiang’s home, Jiang Chao wouldn’t even bring a bowl, and Jiang Daming didn’t care about anything. She hadn’t expected Gu Jinyan to do such a small thing.
In fact, Gu Jinyan often couldn’t finish his meals. Afraid the servants would complain, he simply ate it himself and disposed of the “evidence.”
He didn’t know Jiang Chenyu misunderstood, and even if he did, he wouldn’t spoil his own image.
After finishing his instructions, Gu Jinyan left the house.
He decided to visit downstairs first.
The four members of the Gu family were also having breakfast. When Gu Jinyan arrived, the servants hurried to bring the dishes.
After the meals were placed, Gu’s mother snorted coldly, “Don’t bring him any. A twenty-nine-year-old old bachelor has the nerve to eat?”
The people at the table secretly glanced at Gu Jinyan and all lowered their heads, trying to hide their smiles.
Gu Jinyan sighed helplessly, “Mom, are you still mad?”
Gu Jinyan’s health was poor; he had been rushed to the operating room several times in one month.
Gu’s mother’s close friend recommended a Taoist from Mount Wutai, who said Gu Jinyan’s fate was bad and he was afflicted by evil spirits, possibly leading to death. Only marrying a woman with a strong fate from the Jiang family could break the curse.
That same day, Gu’s mother brought a betrothal gift to the Jiang family, who agreed without hesitation.
Strangely, Gu Jinyan woke up the day after the engagement was set.
Gu Jinyan didn’t believe in superstition, so after waking, he went to the Jiang family to cancel the engagement but fainted at their doorstep...
The Gu family only knew he had gone to cancel the engagement, and Gu’s mother was so angry with his stubbornness she hadn’t spoken to him for three days.
He forced his spirits up and took a few bites more.
Seeing his improved spirits, Gu’s mother snorted coldly, “Why would I be mad? I have a husband and children. Why would I bother?”
“Isn’t that right, husband!” Gu’s mother elbowed Gu’s father half-jokingly.
The suddenly addressed man blinked in confusion, then nodded, unconditionally siding with his wife.
The twin siblings nearby looked at Gu Jinyan expectantly, clearly signaling they wouldn’t oppose their mother on this matter.
Gu Jinyan shook his head and sighed, “Fine, I was going to say I got my marriage certificate yesterday and wanted to bring my wife home for dinner tonight, but if you don’t welcome me...”
“What did you say?” Gu’s mother slammed the table and then quickly changed her tone, “My dear son, don’t be anxious, speak slowly.”
Everyone else: “...”
...
Jiang Chenyu finished eating and washed the dishes.
She made up for the cultivation time she missed in the morning. Seeing the sun come out, she finally opened her phone.
The moment she turned it on, it started vibrating non-stop—from her master’s reminders to the Qin family’s urging.
As for the Jiang family... they probably hadn’t even noticed she hadn’t come home all night.

Fortunately, she no longer cared about that.
After calming down the elderly Madame Qin in a phone call, she left the house.
The place where Qin Fei had the accident was on a commercial street. Jiang Chenyu took out a compass, chanted a spell, and began searching.
The spirit’s energy wouldn’t drift far after leaving the body, so the search area was limited.
However, the commercial street was crowded and chaotic, easily affecting the compass needle.
She searched from the far east to the far west, until at a nondescript shop at the corner, the needle finally pointed clearly.
Looking up, she saw it was a boutique for custom-made bags and accessories.
As she approached the display window, the small compass in her hand started vibrating wildly.
Following the needle’s direction, her gaze landed on a lily-shaped brooch at the edge.
A transparent little figure was hugging the “petal” tightly, rubbing its face affectionately.
Jiang Chenyu found it both ridiculous and amusing.
“Hello, may I help you?” a salesperson approached.
“Wrap this brooch for me,” Jiang Chenyu said, pointing at it.
Perhaps surprised by the straightforwardness, the salesperson hesitated and asked, “We have special gift boxes for presents. Would you like one?”
“No need, just normal wrapping.” Although the Qin family would reimburse her, she didn’t want to waste money.
“All right, please wait a moment.” The salesperson quickly disappeared with the brooch, fearing the customer might change her mind.
Everything displayed in the window was top luxury, with commissions worth tens of thousands, and Jiang Chenyu was so easygoing they dared not neglect her.
While waiting, Jiang Chenyu browsed the shop again.
This seemed to be the designer’s personal boutique, with few but uniquely styled items.
Especially the last display case held an elegant, refined bag with a delicate handle.
Although she knew little about backpacks, she found it very appealing.
Thinking of the ten billion dowry Gu Jinyan had given her, she called to the salesperson, “Waiter, wrap this bag for me too.”
There were only two salespeople in the shop—one wrapping the brooch for Jiang Chenyu, the other serving other customers.
At her call, the second salesperson instinctively turned to glance, revealing the identities of the two customers beside her—Chen Ping and Jiang Xue’er.
