Although Liu Jin was a regular at this four-star hotel, with Bai Bing’s abilities, it was a simple matter for her to find the room where Liu Jin and Lin Xiaolei were staying.

With a thunderous crash, Bai Bing kicked open the suite door. It was hard to imagine such explosive power coming from such a petite frame, especially since she was usually left battered and bruised by Wang Zheng’s bullying.

Bai Bing stormed inside, violently kicking open every door in the room until they hung from their hinges. When she finally smashed open the last door, she caught sight of the despicable Liu Jin and Lin Xiaolei. Lin Xiaolei’s eyes were half-open, her clothing disheveled, the white bra nearly torn away, her body writhing uncontrollably on the bed. It was clear that some trace of consciousness remained in her mind, but her body no longer responded to her will.

Liu Jin, meanwhile, was down to nothing but his underwear; the glamorous façade he usually wore was stripped away, revealing a thin, unimpressive body. When someone burst in unexpectedly, panic flashed across Liu Jin’s face, but upon seeing that it was a furious beauty, his expression relaxed a little. He grabbed a nearby robe to cover himself, frowned at Bai Bing, and demanded, “Who are you? Who let you in here?”

“I’m looking for someone,” Bai Bing replied.

“Looking for someone?” Liu Jin was taken aback, then barked, “What are you doing in my room? There’s no one here for you. Get out!”

“I’m looking for her!” Bai Bing said coldly, pointing at Lin Xiaolei. Her gaze lingered on the trembling figure on the bed; Lin Xiaolei’s eyes were full of desperate hope, as if she had finally glimpsed a ray of light in the darkness. Summoning the last bit of her strength, she reached feebly toward Bai Bing.

“Her?” Liu Jin glanced at Lin Xiaolei and, seeing her struggling toward Bai Bing, instantly understood. But instead of panic, he squared his shoulders and said, “Why are you looking for her? She’s not going anywhere with you tonight. If you know what’s good for you, leave and stop interfering!”

Liu Jin’s brazenness only fueled Bai Bing’s fury. She’d always thought Wang Zheng was shameless enough, but compared to Liu Jin, he was a saint—at least Wang Zheng’s actions could be tolerated and had never truly harmed anyone. But Liu Jin was so far beyond the pale that Bai Bing could hardly contain her rage. How could someone commit such a vile act and still argue as if he were in the right? To justify rape so righteously?

Bai Bing glared at the scum before her and, without warning, drove her foot hard into Liu Jin’s stomach. Before he could even react, he was sprawled on the floor, writhing in agony, unable to utter a word. He was barely breathing.

Tonight, Bai Bing had been simmering with anger, and now she’d found a perfect outlet. Facing the man sprawled at her feet, she didn’t hesitate; she went over and kicked him several more times, leaving his face bruised and swollen, turning him into a wretched mess.

For Bai Bing, this was about more than venting her rage. It was also about punishing Lin Xiaolei’s weakness, avenging the humiliation of the woman lying disheveled on the bed, and restoring some measure of dignity to women everywhere.

Perhaps Bai Bing’s rampage had disturbed the hotel; staff and security soon arrived. Seeing Liu Jin being pummeled, their first thought was of a lover’s quarrel. After all, Liu Jin wasn’t exactly a stranger to such incidents here. Uncertain about Bai Bing’s identity or whether this was merely a domestic dispute, they hesitated, unsure what to do.

They stood there dumbly, watching until it seemed Liu Jin might be beaten to death, at which point they finally rushed forward to intervene. But none of them were a match for Bai Bing; those who tried to stop her were quickly dealt with.

A shrew? Better call for backup! A security guard reached for his radio, but Bai Bing snatched it away, smashed it to the floor, and stomped it to pieces. She took several deep breaths, her presence so fierce that no one dared approach. After venting her anger, she finally felt at ease. Judging by the state Liu Jin was in—whether he was dead or alive was unclear—he would be spending some time in the hospital, since a death would be far too troublesome.

Bai Bing went to the bed, straightened Lin Xiaolei’s clothes, helped her up, glanced contemptuously at Liu Jin on the floor, spat out a curse, and left the room.

Outside the hotel, Wang Zheng stood smoking, now on his second cigarette. He knew Bai Bing’s temper well; with Liu Jin in her hands, she was never going to let him off easily. To Bai Bing, this wasn’t just about Lin Xiaolei, but about the eternal struggle between men and women. If scum like Liu Jin weren’t properly taught a lesson, it would be a disservice to all the women he’d ever humiliated—though whether Liu Jin had harmed others before, Wang Zheng didn’t know.

As he finished his second cigarette, Bai Bing emerged from the hotel, supporting Lin Xiaolei. Judging by their expressions, the worst had been averted. Wang Zheng tossed his cigarette butt aside, got into the driver’s seat, and started the car.

“Got it all out of your system?” Wang Zheng grinned as Bai Bing helped Lin Xiaolei over. “Did you make him a eunuch?”

“Ah!” Bai Bing suddenly cried, her face filling with regret as she realized, “I can’t believe I forgot! I have to go back!”

“Get in the car! I don’t want to spend the night being chased around Jinghua by Liu Jin’s men!” Wang Zheng said gruffly. Bai Bing was too softhearted, he thought. And not too bright—how could she forget something so important?

Bai Bing got Lin Xiaolei into the back seat and climbed in herself. Before leaving, she cast one last hateful glance at the hotel and muttered, “You got lucky this time. Next time I’ll make sure you pay.”

Then she turned to Wang Zheng in the front, “Driver, go!”

“Get lost.”

Because they’d followed Lin Xiaolei the night before, Wang Zheng already knew her address. He didn’t take her to his own place—his four rooms were all occupied, and if Lin Xiaolei woke up without remembering what had happened, he’d have no way to explain and might even be accused of ruining her reputation. Wang Zheng had no interest in doing a thankless job.

The car rolled to a stop by the curb. Wang Zheng glanced back through the rearview mirror. “You take her upstairs. I’m not going in.”

“I really can’t figure out what goes on in your head,” Bai Bing muttered helplessly, then helped Lin Xiaolei inside.

Until everything was settled, Wang Zheng preferred to keep his distance from Lin Xiaolei. Everyone had their strengths; Lin Xiaolei was no exception. Spending too much time together would inevitably lead to feelings, and Wang Zheng was afraid of getting too emotionally involved. It was better to remain a bystander, lest she one day disappoint him and he found himself unable to extricate himself.

In all things, Wang Zheng liked to leave himself an escape route—including matters of the heart. And love, he knew, was the sharpest weapon of all. Wang Zheng hated getting hurt.

When Wang Zheng returned home, it was already nine o’clock. Because Chu Jun’s Beetle was parked in the garage that came with his apartment, Wang Zheng had to leave his car outside. As soon as he got out, a shout rang out from upstairs.

“Stop right there!”

Wang Zheng looked up to see Su Xue and Chu Jun leaning out the window. It was Su Xue who had shouted, her expression deadly serious. Who knew what drama was unfolding now?

“Should I put my hands up?” Wang Zheng called back, amused. Was this girl treating her brother like a criminal?

“No need. Just kneel down, hands on your head, and don’t move!” Su Xue replied, ducking away from the window. Chu Jun glanced at her curiously, then disappeared as well.

A moment later, the sound of slippers slapping the stairs echoed from the stairwell, and the door swung open. Su Xue and Chu Jun ran out, still in their indoor shoes. Su Xue glanced at Bai Bing, then at Wang Zheng, and finally at the white Maserati. Her eyes sparkled with delight, just as Bai Bing’s had before. Not even a walnut-sized diamond could satisfy this girl.

Perhaps because Chu Jun came from a wealthy family, her reaction to the car wasn’t as intense, though it was clear she liked it. Despite her family’s power and wealth, Chu Jun had none of the bad traits of a spoiled child; she was well-behaved and never spent a cent of her family’s money. Even her Beetle had been bought with her own earnings. No wonder she’d chosen to share an apartment with Su Xue; with her current salary, buying a car was easy, but buying a home was another matter entirely.

“Is this… yours?” After circling the car, Su Xue marched up to Wang Zheng and interrogated him.

“Is that how you talk to your brother?” Wang Zheng retorted, feigning sternness. He already knew what Su Xue was thinking and what she wanted to ask, and put on a serious face to get through it quickly.

“Don’t play the family card. I’ll decide if you’re my brother after you answer my question!” Su Xue said imperiously, snatching the keys from Wang Zheng’s hand and hopping into the car.

“From now on, this is my official ride!”
