Chapter Eighty-Eight: Attitude Determines Everything!
For the entire afternoon, Bai Bing sat off to the side with a frosty face, silent and withdrawn. It was as if all the vigor she had shown that morning had been used up; she no longer eavesdropped, no longer tailed anyone, no longer poured tea or fetched water. Her presence had become no different from the cactus on the windowsill.
A protest? A sit-in as a form of protest? Not exactly a wise choice. Because for Wang Zheng at the moment, he would have been delighted if Bai Bing would simply keep her mouth shut and stay obediently to the side.
Another afternoon ended with him watching adult videos. Wang Zheng rose from his chair and stretched lazily. Maybe he should go blow off some steam at a nightclub too? After all, watching adult videos was hard work!
“It’s decided. I’m going out to relax in a bit.”
Wang Zheng said this loudly, then glanced toward Bai Bing. Those words had been meant for her.
Unfortunately, to Wang Zheng’s surprise, Bai Bing showed no obvious reaction. Her expression remained as cold as ever, like the ice sheets covering Antarctica, chilling to the bone.
Seeing that she did not react, Wang Zheng walked over to her, smiling faintly. His smile was so affectionate and full of hidden meaning that Bai Bing—
Well, Bai Bing rewarded him with a glare.
“Ah, these days women like you, with principles and temper, are getting harder and harder to find. I really hope you can keep that temper going!”
Wang Zheng was not frozen stiff by her icy look. Instead, he stood there and said some sarcasm to her face.
“Hmph!”
Bai Bing gave a cold snort and left the office first.
Just as Wang Zheng was about to shut down his computer, a new email appeared on the screen. After opening and reading it, his easygoing expression changed to one of surprise. He quickly turned his head and looked downstairs...
That foreigner’s efficiency was a little too high, wasn’t it? So high it was almost unbelievable.
Bai Bing, Bai Bing. I want to see how long your cold face can keep holding.
That was what Wang Zheng thought.
After shutting down the computer, Wang Zheng walked out of the office. The work area was still bustling, but from the looks of it, and from the red line that had somehow appeared on the floor, the two groups had apparently already drawn their boundary. They were to respect each other’s territory and sovereignty, which explained why the afternoon had been so quiet.
After greeting more than a dozen female employees, he leaned down beside Ye Ruo and said softly, “Overtime ends at six. After six, leave on your own.”
Normally, getting off work at five and asking them to stay an extra hour was hardly unreasonable. It was still much better than the usual overtime that dragged on until eight or nine at night.
After hearing him, Ye Ruo nodded, then quietly relayed the supreme order of the lady brigade to the others.
Not far away, Bai Bing saw Wang Zheng whispering to Ye Ruo and assumed the two had some kind of intimate relationship. She snorted again, and before Wang Zheng had even left the company...
Wang Zheng had never been afraid of Bai Bing, and now that he had some leverage in hand, he was even less bothered. After issuing the order, he pretended not to see her cold snorts and rolling eyes, and strolled casually toward the elevator, looking relaxed and unhurried.
As if on purpose, Bai Bing was standing inside the elevator. The moment she saw Wang Zheng, she immediately reached out to press the button. By the time Wang Zheng arrived at the doors, they had just closed.
Such a childish temper. Just wait and see how I deal with you.
That was what Wang Zheng thought.
After a while, he waited for another elevator and went downstairs.
When he stepped out of the elevator and looked through the tempered glass in the first-floor lobby, he could see Bai Bing standing by the entrance in the distance, staring at something. Wang Zheng walked out and came to her side. Following her gaze, he saw a pure white Maserati Quattroporte parked in the lot.
Its body lines were full and rounded, flowing naturally over the surface and outlining the silhouette of a sports sedan. Its pronounced muscular presence constantly reminded people that it possessed the temperament of a sports car.
Then there was Bai Bing beside him, looking so ravenous she seemed ready to swallow the car whole.
“Why are you standing here doing nothing?” Wang Zheng nudged her and asked, then shifted his gaze to the car. “Whose car is this? Looks pretty flashy.”
“What do you know? The Quattroporte is the only sedan model under Ferrari and Maserati’s group. This four-door sedan with sports-car performance has a softness and passion that other tough luxury sedans don’t have... Telling you is wasted breath.”
Drawn in by the luxury car before her, Bai Bing no longer even had the time to throw a glare at Wang Zheng. That alone showed just how irresistible the car was to her.
“Come on, stop staring. Even if you look, it still isn’t yours,” Wang Zheng said, pushing her gently from behind.
“Don’t push me!”
Bai Bing said irritably, “You, a man who never keeps his word, you big liar! You said you were going to buy a car, and there’s still no sign of it. If you don’t go look, do you expect the car to fall from the sky? Don’t you have money with nowhere to spend it, diamonds with nowhere to throw? If you really mean what you say, then buy this car. If you’re not buying it, then stop wandering around in front of me! If you don’t buy it, do you think I won’t even be allowed to look?”
A string of words burst out of her like a machine gun, leaving Wang Zheng no chance to speak.
“With that attitude, can I even buy it for you?” Wang Zheng asked.
“If you don’t buy it, then I’ll have this attitude! If you do buy it, then I won’t.”
“Really?”
Wang Zheng smiled after hearing that, then walked around the car a few times, studying it as he went.
“If I bought you a car like this, what would your attitude be?”
Hearing Wang Zheng’s words, and seeing him circle around the car as if there might really be some chance of it, Bai Bing rolled her eyes and said, “If you buy this car, I won’t speak to you so fiercely anymore. Then I’ll be your errand girl and your driver. Wherever you point, I’ll drive there. Even if there’s a cliff in front, I won’t complain one bit. How about that?”
Praise him first, flatter him first, then confuse him before doing anything else.
That was what Bai Bing thought.
“A cliff? You want me to crash to my death?”
Wang Zheng said with a displeased tone, then looked at Bai Bing’s eager expression. It was really strange. Back when he gave her over ten million in diamonds, she refused them, but now she desperately wanted to drive a car worth several million. Had she been pinched in the door as a child or something?
It was only a car, after all.
Wang Zheng walked around it a few more times, then stopped by the door and reached for the handle.
“Hey, you...!”
Bai Bing was just about to stop him when she saw that, somehow, the door had already been opened by Wang Zheng, and he had naturally slid into the driver’s seat.
Sitting in the car, Wang Zheng looked at the dumbstruck Bai Bing and could not help smiling. It was rare enough to see such an expression on her face.
He pressed the horn and called out loudly to her, “Getting in or not?”
“You... get out right now! This is a stolen car! I told you to buy one, not steal one!”
Bai Bing shouted at Wang Zheng, her loud voice immediately drawing the attention of others, who all turned toward the Maserati.
These car thieves were getting way too arrogant these days.
Wang Zheng shook his head. If Bai Bing kept yelling like that, she would bring the police over too.
He got out of the car, opened the rear door, glanced at Bai Bing, who was still frozen in place, and casually tossed something in her direction.
“Stop embarrassing me. Get in!”
With that, Wang Zheng was already back inside the car.
Bai Bing reflexively reached out to catch it. When she opened her hand, she saw that it was a key, and the trident emblem on it revealed its identity—the key to a Maserati.
What exactly was going on?
Bai Bing’s body seemed to move on its own as she walked to the car, opened the door, and got in... It was only when she started the engine that she finally felt that all of this was real. The light beige interior warmed the eyes, while the clean, sharp lines, accented with luxurious wood and genuine leather, conveyed its classic elegance and nobility without effort.
She turned suddenly to look at Wang Zheng, asking in astonishment, “This... you bought this?”
“Mm.”
“You really bought it?”
Bai Bing asked again, still unable to believe it.
“Isn’t the car key in your hand?”
Wang Zheng looked at her and said, “But you can’t drive it yet. In a bit I’m going to relax with Lin Xiaolei, understand?”
Bai Bing froze for a moment after hearing that, then nodded vigorously.
At the same time, she found it strange. These past few days, she had never been far from Wang Zheng, so how had she never seen him go look at a car? Could he have bought it at noon today? Impossible. No matter how fast they moved, there was no way he could have gotten it on the same day, and she had not seen this car at all when coming and going from work.
How had he kept it so secret?
First it was dozens of diamonds that somehow appeared on him without anyone noticing, and now a car had appeared here. Could he know some kind of duplication technique? Was there one hundred versions of him in this world... No, impossible. If there really were a hundred of him, this world would probably be in complete chaos.
Just how many secrets did he have?
“Hey, wake up.”
Hearing someone calling her from behind, Bai Bing snapped out of her daze and turned to look at Wang Zheng.
“What is it?”
Wang Zheng wore a helpless expression and pointed toward the entrance of the Evergreen Building. There, Lin Xiaolei had just come out and was already at the curb hailing a taxi.
“Did you forget what you just said?” Wang Zheng said to Bai Bing. “Errand girl, driver. Wherever I point, you drive.”
“I know, I know! I’ll catch up right now!”
Hearing Wang Zheng, Bai Bing hurriedly nodded. Though she had not driven in quite some time, her movements were astonishingly fluent. Gear shift, accelerator—everything in one smooth motion. This woman really did seem very professional.
