Chapter Thirty-Two: I Am Self-Taught!

My Beautiful Love Disaster Li Xingyu 2702 words 2026-04-13 18:32:43

Life is like a dish of radishes—you can boil them, fry them, stew them, braise them, or even eat them raw. The crucial thing is that you have to be able to digest them.

Ever since he’d displayed his culinary skills at dinner that night, Su Xue often wanted to show off her abilities to Wang Zheng again. But as far as Wang Zheng was concerned, two hands were already more than enough! Fortunately, the next few days were when Su Xue and Chu Jun were busy anchoring the news, which spared Wang Zheng from a looming disaster.

Forced to smile and heap praises on food that tasted like hazardous chemicals, Wang Zheng felt he had reached a whole new level of shamelessness.

Meanwhile, Bai Bing’s presence allowed Wang Zheng to live the life of a wealthy landlord—at least, he no longer had to worry about meals. Three hearty meals a day, six cups of tea before and after. At an opportune moment, Wang Zheng and Bai Bing signed a treaty: If she wanted to stay, she had to cook; otherwise, she could get lost!

Seeing that she could legitimately stay, Bai Bing was overjoyed, afraid Wang Zheng would change his mind, and hurried to sign the agreement. Holding the contract bearing Bai Bing’s name, Wang Zheng’s lips curled into a barely perceptible smile before her.

“That’s a housekeeper’s salary saved!” Wang Zheng thought. He was penniless—so poor he had only credit cards and diamonds left!

“Dressed so nicely—are you going on a blind date?” Bai Bing set breakfast on the table and looked at Wang Zheng, who was neatly groomed.

“I have to find a wife before winter sets in, or there’ll be no one to warm my bed!” Wang Zheng replied, eating as he spoke.

Bai Bing pursed her lips at that and said nothing. Just two days of peace, and he can’t sit still—what trouble is he off to stir up now? With that, Bai Bing hurriedly drank some porridge and returned to her room. Taking a cue from Wang Zheng’s suit, she picked out a black business outfit for herself.

When Bai Bing, now dressed in business attire, sat across from him, Wang Zheng was momentarily stunned—he could guess she was planning to follow him. He looked her over carefully; to be fair, she did look like a proper office lady in that outfit.

“Are you going on a blind date too?” Wang Zheng asked.

“Yes, I am. How do I look? Not bad, right?” Bai Bing adjusted her clothes, eyebrows arched high, as if challenging Wang Zheng, her feigned smile making him want to gag.

“Not bad—perfect for reeling in fools,” Wang Zheng replied, smiling slyly. Even an idiot could hear he didn’t mean it as a compliment.

Bai Bing gritted her teeth, her smile vanishing under a dark cloud. Her arched brows drew together, but soon she forced herself to look unfazed, as if to say, “I’m not angry, not at all.”

“Getting angry only makes you suffer for someone else’s stupidity. I don’t care what you say!” Bai Bing retorted.

“Prude.”

“I’m not angry!”

“White tiger.”

“Drop dead!”

Seeing Bai Bing fly into a rage, Wang Zheng could only shake his head. What a woman without principles—she couldn’t even last two exchanges before losing her cool. He hadn’t even resorted to harsher methods yet!

People shouldn’t be idle—only when busy do they feel fulfilled and content. Too much leisure breeds decadence, and decadence is not far from ruin. Like fresh noodles—delicious when hot but sticky and unpalatable once cold.

Wang Zheng, dressed impeccably, glanced at the slip of paper in his hand. Su Xue had given it to him, listing which companies were hiring and what positions were available. He’d been idle at home for two days and felt restless, as if his whole body had rusted. In the end, he couldn’t escape a life of busyness!

He looked up at the twenty-four-story building before him, straightened his collar, and walked in.

“Hello, I’m here to apply for a position,” Wang Zheng said to the receptionist.

“You… you’re looking for a job?” Bai Bing, who had trailed after him, exclaimed in surprise. A man who gave away diamonds so casually was looking for a job? Was this a joke?

If he was job-hunting, what about her? Was she supposed to look for a job too? Her mission was to persuade him to return to the organization. But now… perhaps it was time to take action! Bai Bing thought to herself.

“Here’s a form. Please fill it out,” the receptionist said.

Wang Zheng took the form. The first few items were easy, but he got stuck at “Education.” He’d never been to school—not even kindergarten. What was he supposed to write?

If he left it blank, that wouldn’t do. If he wrote “no education,” he might not even get through the door. After a long pause, Wang Zheng finally wrote, “Self-taught and accomplished,” in the education section.

A sudden laugh escaped Bai Bing, who had been watching him fill out the form. Wang Zheng frowned and looked at her, only to see her covering her mouth, eyes brimming with amusement.

“Is this funny to you?” Wang Zheng asked coldly.

“Mhm!” Bai Bing nodded, then shook her head, making it impossible to tell what she meant.

Wang Zheng ignored her and continued with the form. Though not large, it was a real challenge for him. After writing “Battle-hardened” under “Work Experience,” he was stumped by the “Objective” field.

“What positions is your company hiring for?” he asked the receptionist.

The receptionist was taken aback—if he didn’t know what he wanted, was he even prepared? Still, as part of her duties, she handed him a recruitment flyer.

Wang Zheng read through it carefully. There were over a dozen positions, from security guard to chief financial officer.

“Chief financial officer… I can’t even manage my own finances, so that’s out!” Wang Zheng thought, immediately crossing it off.

There was also assistant to the general manager, sales manager, technical director, secretary, senior engineer, salesperson, security guard…

Having reviewed all the options, Wang Zheng found that only the security guard position suited him. But was he, a champion among a hundred tribes and the strongest man in Africa, going to be a security guard? No way!

He’d never done sales. The secretary had to be female. Technical director—well, he was only good at killing. Assistant, though… that wasn’t bad. No special requirements, and he was a jack-of-all-trades—perfect! Decision made, Wang Zheng filled in “Assistant to the General Manager” as his objective.

Looking over the completed form, Wang Zheng nodded in satisfaction and confidently handed it to the receptionist.

The receptionist paused upon seeing the form, then couldn’t help but laugh. Realizing this was impolite, she covered her mouth, coughed, and asked, “Sir, what does ‘self-taught and accomplished’ mean in the education section?” There were other puzzling parts, like “battle-hardened.”

“Oh, it means—” Wang Zheng began.

“It means he’s never been to school and wrote ‘self-taught and accomplished’ to save face. Simple as that!” Bai Bing interrupted, her tone dripping with mockery and disdain.

Clearly, she had begun her sabotage.

Wang Zheng’s face darkened immediately. He’d suspected Bai Bing might interfere, but didn’t expect her to be so ruthless.

“I believe ability is what matters most. The First Emperor of Qin never attended elementary school, yet he became an emperor, didn’t he? I’m just like that—strong-willed, determined, and ultimately self-taught,” Wang Zheng explained.

“And what does ‘battle-hardened’ mean?” the receptionist asked.

“It means—” Wang Zheng started.

“He killed quite a few people in Africa and then escaped back home, so he’s ‘battle-hardened’!” Bai Bing interjected again.

“Heh, she’s crazy, don’t listen to her,” Wang Zheng retorted irritably.

The receptionist glanced in confusion between Bai Bing and Wang Zheng. What was the relationship between these two? Were they performing a comedy act?

“I’m sorry, sir, but your resume is not qualified. Besides, except for the security position, all other roles require a bachelor’s degree and three years’ experience.”

“What?”

“Hehehehe…”
