Chapter 153: I Suppose I'm a Pervert!
Because he hadn't eaten lunch, Wang Zheng's first destination after leaving his office was the restaurant on the top floor. Although it was already three o'clock in the afternoon, the rooftop restaurant still had quite a few patrons. Some sat by the windows, basking in the sun while leisurely sipping afternoon tea. Others gathered in groups of two or three, drinking coffee while chatting about company business or sharing gossip.
However, someone like Wang Zheng dining at this hour was exceedingly rare; strictly speaking, he was the only one, which looked somewhat peculiar. Could this be the legendary bottomless pit who ate eight meals a day?
Wang Zheng was considered quite a notable figure of varying size within this office building. Who didn't know him after two days of roses? Women knew Wang Zheng because he showered them with compliments and presented them with red roses. Men knew Wang Zheng because he complimented the beauties they secretly adored and gifted them red roses, making the other men green with envy. Consequently, they inquired everywhere about Wang Zheng's whereabouts to gather intelligence on their rival, ensuring they would know themselves and their enemy to secure victory in future days.
While eating his afternoon meal, Wang Zheng wasn't idle; his mind raced with thoughts of Liao Tong and his next steps. He suddenly felt that back in Africa, everything he did had gone smoothly and effortlessly. Yet, upon returning to his homeland, a very simple matter had turned into a difficult challenge!
Even the cleverest housewife cannot cook a meal without rice, and Wang Zheng had precisely this feeling at the moment. He longed for the straightforward, unhindered killing and fighting of Africa.
The sound of footsteps echoed *da-da-da-da*. The chopsticks in Wang Zheng's hand paused slightly before he resumed eating. Over time, Wang Zheng had learned to determine whether the person approaching him was someone of concern based solely on their footsteps.
Bai Bing walked up behind Wang Zheng and stopped, quietly watching him eat. After staring at him with a complex gaze for a moment, she walked around to the opposite side of Wang Zheng and sat down.
"Do you have time?"
Wang Zheng remained silent, ignoring Bai Bing across from him as he continued eating his meal as if he and Bai Bing existed in two entirely different dimensions.
"I want to talk to you!"
Wang Zheng took large, hearty bites. His table manners, never particularly elegant to begin with, deteriorated as he stuffed his mouth full, his cheeks bulging high, as if to make it clear to Bai Bing that he simply had no time to idle away chatting with her!
Seeing Wang Zheng act this way, Bai Bing said nothing more. She sat quietly, watching him, seemingly willing to wait until he finished eating so they could discuss what she wanted to talk about! At this moment, Bai Bing's inner state was exceptionally complex, especially upon seeing Wang Zheng's expression, which suggested he didn't even want to hear her voice. This indifference left her heart feeling like a ball of yarn that had been batted around by a cat—utterly tangled and devoid of a single clue.
If she acted in her capacity as a National Security agent, everything she had done was correct. Yet, for reasons unknown, Bai Bing now felt that she had been wrong this time, and disastrously so—so wrong that she felt utterly ashamed of herself. She wished she could find a crack in the ground to crawl into, or rush back and curse the bureaucrat of a director out thoroughly.
The very thing she least wanted to happen had occurred. She had never anticipated that Wang Zheng would guess she was carrying a firearm. She had concealed the weapon under her armpit all along to prevent Wang Zheng from discovering it, but in the end, she had still given herself away. This filled her with endless regret; she should never have listened to that bastard director and brought a micro-pistol in the first place. In her heart, Bai Bing had already begun launching a brutal, merciless verbal assault against the director.
Wang Zheng had no intention of speaking with Bai Bing at this moment, and thus he had even less intention of giving her the opportunity to speak. After sweeping the food clean from the table, he ordered a serving of shark's fin with rice, this time eating it slowly and deliberately, chewing every single bite. It was as if he were deliberately dragging out time; forget shark's fin, Wang Zheng seemed determined to savor even a single grain of rice with meticulous care.
It was hard to imagine that a single meal could take an hour and a half, but Wang Zheng had actually pulled it off. He produced a toothpick from goodness knows where and began picking his teeth with absolute lack of grace. Was it shark's fin stuck in his teeth, or a grain of rice? That was probably something only Wang Zheng himself knew. Who even knew if he had been eating shark's fin or fish bones just now!
"Can we sit down and talk calmly now?" Bai Bing asked, looking at Wang Zheng.
To her, that hour and a half had been far too long and agonizing! It was also the first time Bai Bing had realized just how fragile she truly was! The reason... she couldn't articulate it clearly; even Bai Bing herself didn't know!
Hearing this, Wang Zheng let out a cold snort, spat the toothpick aside, stood up from his seat, and walked away while saying, "Sorry, no time. I have a date later!"
Seeing Wang Zheng stand up, Bai Bing naturally rose to her feet and hurried after him. She knew Wang Zheng didn't want to speak with her, but what she had to say *had* to be told to Wang Zheng, otherwise, keeping it bottled up inside would drive her crazy.
"If you don't have time now, I'll wait for you at home, okay?" Bai Bing's voice trembled slightly, carrying an almost pleading tone as she followed closely behind Wang Zheng. She looked somewhat pathetic, but unfortunately, Wang Zheng didn't even bother to look back!
"My date will run very late. It might be midnight, or even two in the morning!"
"I'll wait for you!"
Standing inside the elevator, Wang Zheng gave a faint smile upon hearing this. The smile felt more like a mockery of Bai Bing. The elevator doors slowly closed, separating the two of them. Bai Bing didn't step inside because she feared drawing Wang Zheng's rejection and thereby losing even the chance to talk.
Talk? Talk with someone who had tried to point a gun at him? There was nothing to talk about!
Taking the elevator back up to the company, Wang Zheng knew Bai Bing wouldn't return for a while, or perhaps she had already left the company to go home and wait obediently. Wang Zheng hung out with the gossipy colleagues for a bit, chatting and wasting time, until five o'clock rolled around before he finally stepped into Lin Xiaolei's office.
Upon seeing Wang Zheng, Lin Xiaolei had already guessed his purpose. Thanks to Lin Xuan's connection, her usually hectic workload had become much more relaxed. Coincidentally, today wasn't particularly busy either, so Lin Xiaolei tidied up her documents and then left the company in Wang Zheng's company.
Today seemed to be Wang Zheng's lucky day. No sooner had he stepped out of the Yong'an Building than he spotted Zhang Fan by sheer coincidence. This time, the guy wasn't tailing them stealthily from behind; instead, he stepped out of a car and walked openly right up in front of Wang Zheng and Lin Xiaolei.
Upon seeing him, Lin Xiaolei reflexively reached out and looped her arm through Wang Zheng's. Whether she did it to play the role of a devoted couple or out of sheer panic was hard to tell!
Wang Zheng furrowed his brow—this blind idiot! Fortunately, he had asked Lin Xiaolei out for dinner, otherwise she would have been intercepted and hijacked by Zhang Fan once again!
"Good afternoon, Miss Lin!" Zhang Fan said with a smile as he looked at Lin Xiaolei, then turned his gaze to Wang Zheng beside her and added, "Mr. Wang, we meet again!"
"Yeah, what a coincidence!" Actually, what Wang Zheng meant to say wasn't just that; it should have been: *What a coincidence, what terrible luck, what a pain, what helplessness!*
"Mr. Wang, I have some matters to discuss with Miss Lin!" Zhang Fan stated.
The subtext, of course, was to get Wang Zheng to clear out and leave him an opportunity for a private date with Lin Xiaolei. Yet Wang Zheng deliberately played dumb, looking at Zhang Fan with an expression of utter innocence as he said, "Oh, go ahead!"
"Mr. Wang, you misunderstand. I have business with Miss Lin!"
"That's right, she's right here beside me. Whatever business you have, just tell her directly!" Wang Zheng said loudly, putting on an act of complete misunderstanding. Despite saying this, he showed no intention of leaving; instead, he stood by like a mere spectator, waiting for Zhang Fan to speak to Lin Xiaolei...
For a moment, Zhang Fan didn't know how to respond. *Could it be that I didn't make myself clear just now? Was I too tactful in my phrasing?* Looking at Wang Zheng's remarkably pure and innocent expression, he didn't seem like someone who lacked basic comprehension. Therefore, after a brief moment of thought, Zhang Fan spoke with utmost bluntness: "Mr. Wang, could you lend Miss Lin to me for a couple of hours? I'd like to discuss something with her!"
*Discuss again? Damn it!* As long as the word 'discuss' wasn't mentioned, Wang Zheng's mood was actually quite pleasant. But the moment 'discuss' was uttered, his inner weather instantly shifted from clear skies to overcast, accompanied by severe thunderstorms and high winds.
*Why on earth would I lend my own girlfriend to my romantic rival for two hours? Do I look like an absolute moron?* Wang Zheng thought to himself, feeling that Zhang Fan's words were a direct insult to his intelligence. To brazenly poach another man's girlfriend so openly—home-wreckers these days were truly out of control. No wonder some people had proposed the idea of victims being able to sue home-wreckers for damages; such a seemingly absurd notion actually sounded quite necessary now, damn it!
Wang Zheng had been lost in his thoughts, finding Zhang Fan's words utterly ridiculous. Seeing that Wang Zheng remained silent, a gradual smile began to form on Zhang Fan's face, clearly misinterpreting Wang Zheng's silence as hesitation. Meanwhile, Lin Xiaolei stood beside them, looking at Wang Zheng with a tense expression that carried a hint of pleading. She gripped his arm tightly, refusing to let go, using this tiny physical gesture to convey her inner thoughts.
"Mr. Wang, have you thought about it?" Zhang Fan asked.
His daydreams interrupted, Wang Zheng finally snapped back to reality. In truth, Wang Zheng was rather grateful to Zhang Fan; had it not been for the man's previous remark, Wang Zheng might have nearly lost his mind to distraction.
*I suppose I'm a bit of a freak with a weakness for prime, mature women; otherwise, why would I get the irresistible urge to screw his mother every single time I look at Zhang Fan's face?*
"If you lend me your mother for a single night, I'll lend Lin Xiaolei to you for two hours. How's that? Deal or no deal?"
