Chapter 135: Offering the Flower on Behalf of the Buddha!
Su Xue sat in the back seat today, clutching ninety-eight red roses. She was as happy as a bee that had found a fresh flower, her face pressed right against the bouquet. It seemed that red roses didn't just symbolize romantic love; sometimes, they could represent familial affection as well. In truth, what they symbolized no longer mattered; as long as the recipient was happy, that was enough.
Compared to Su Xue’s joyful expression, Bai Bing’s mood was far gloomier and filled with disappointment. Her head leaned listlessly against the car window, the secret glee she had felt earlier completely vanished. Though it couldn't be said that she had failed to catch the chicken and lost the rice as well, the "chicken" had been in sight, only to be snatched away by someone else. All her painstaking schemes had ultimately come to nothing. In particular, the sound of Su Xue’s happy, boastful voice ringing in her ears made Bai Bing seethe with such repressed fury that she felt she might lose her mind.
"Sharing is better than enjoying things alone. Don't just hog them all; give some to the others," Wang Zheng said to a delighted Su Xue through the rearview mirror.
Hearing Wang Zheng’s words, the defeated-looking Bai Bing suddenly perked up. Even if she couldn't have the main course, having a bit of the broth would be nice. She waited quietly, hoping Su Xue would share some roses with her. However, Wang Zheng hadn't finished his sentence, and upon hearing what followed, Bai Bing sank back into despondency.
"Give some to Chuchu. Haven't you both been working quite hard lately? I hope these roses can brighten your moods," Wang Zheng continued.
From beginning to end, Wang Zheng only mentioned Chuchu, never once bringing up Bai Bing’s name. The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. Bai Bing was now utterly disillusioned with Wang Zheng.
When the car pulled to a stop, Bai Bing stepped out quickly. With a sharp *bang*, she slammed the door shut, then marched toward the building with a cold, angry face.
"Brother, what’s wrong with her?" Su Xue asked Wang Zheng, looking at the seemingly furious Bai Bing.
"I don't know. Maybe it’s menopause."
Bai Bing remained deeply resentful about the rose incident and didn't speak to Wang Zheng for the entire night, which made Wang Zheng feel deeply wronged. She had asked him to buy flowers, so he did. She had asked him to give her one, so he gave her one. She said to leave the rest for Su Xue, so he left them for Su Xue. Everything had been done exactly as she had asked, yet in the end, he was met with silent resentment. Why was Bai Bing angry? It was truly baffling.
Bai Bing’s mood didn't improve after a night’s sleep; even breakfast the next day was reduced to something simple—milk, juice, fried eggs, and bread. Even the usual porridge and side dishes were missing, and her attitude suggested that he could take it or leave it. Such behavior inevitably led Su Xue to suspect that the source of the conflict was Wang Zheng, as he seemed to be the only one in the house who could cause Bai Bing such dissatisfaction.
The commute to the company was somber. Even Lin Xuan sensed that something was off with Bai Bing, constantly asking Wang Zheng with her eyes, to which he could only respond with a look of innocence.
He really, truly hadn't argued with her this time, nor had he bullied her!
Upon entering the company, the "women's army" once again turned their gazes toward Wang Zheng, staring at him in confusion. Ye Ruo clapped her hands at him, and once Wang Zheng walked over, she whispered, "Brother Wang, you're late. Someone just sent red roses to Director Lin again. It looks like there are a thousand of them!"
Sent again? Wang Zheng frowned upon hearing this. Looking at Ye Ruo, it didn't seem like she was pulling his leg. This Zhang Fan—after being so clearly rejected by Lin Xiaolei yesterday, he was still sending flowers. It seemed he hadn't given up on her. Then again, if a man retreated just because of one word from someone, could he even be called a man?
It seemed Zhang Fan was a tricky character, at least more refined in how he treated women than his father. However, if he thought he could win over Lin Xiaolei with this method, he was severely underestimating her.
But nothing was set in stone. Many couples started with the man pestering the woman relentlessly, eventually becoming bickering enemies before settling into a beautiful "cockroach-like" love. People’s hearts change, especially women’s—they are the most fickle of all.
Wang Zheng signaled for Ye Ruo to get back to work and walked forward slowly. Just like yesterday, Lin Xuan took the lead and pushed open the office door, and Wang Zheng pretended to be just passing by, stopping outside Lin Xiaolei’s office. Lin Xiaolei sat at her desk, looking frustrated as she stared at the room full of red roses. She looked rather pitiable. Clearly, she was helpless in the face of a man who continued to send flowers despite being clearly rejected the day before. When she saw Wang Zheng at the door, she gave a bitter smile.
"Can you help me get rid of these?" Lin Xiaolei asked, looking at Wang Zheng. Perhaps she had already grown accustomed to the atmosphere of being surrounded by a thousand roses, so the shock of yesterday wasn't on her face today. Instead, she was showing Wang Zheng her innocence and helplessness.
"If he has the money, let him buy them," Wang Zheng said upon hearing this. He then bent down, picked up a bouquet of roses, and handed them to Bai Bing, who was standing nearby. "Weren't you sulking because you didn't get a bouquet? Here, these are for you!"
When Bai Bing heard Wang Zheng’s words, her already gloomy and angry mood worsened further. So, he knew exactly why she was angry, yet he remained indifferent. Bai Bing took the roses with a cold face, threw them onto the floor, and began stomping on them, saying disdainfully, "You might as well save them for your lover!"
Bai Bing felt that being offered roses that someone else had sent to Lin Xiaolei was an insult to her. Was there no one left to send her flowers? Back in the day, she used to throw away truckloads of them. Who cared for these cheap red roses? Hmph!
"You... even if you don't want them, you shouldn't step on them!" Wang Zheng said, watching the increasingly irate Bai Bing. He seemed to have forgotten that he had done the exact same thing yesterday—or rather, he had stepped on them even harder than Bai Bing.
Watching Bai Bing still venting her frustration on the roses, Wang Zheng sighed helplessly. Women really did change quickly. Just last night she was fighting to have them, and now...! Wang Zheng sighed again; dealing with so many flowers was indeed a problem. *Huh?* Wang Zheng’s gaze drifted outside the office, seeing a woman working diligently with her head bowed. He suddenly clapped his hands and said loudly, "Don't perk your ears up so high, or you'll turn into rabbits."
Hearing his words, the women who had been listening intently with their heads tilted couldn't help but laugh, looking up at Wang Zheng standing at the door of Lin Xiaolei’s office.
"Anyone who likes roses, go ahead and take them from the office. Take as many as you want, you can give them away, it doesn't matter. Those without boyfriends, I wish you find one; those with boyfriends, I wish you find a male lover...!"
Hearing Wang Zheng’s words, everyone looked at each other. Even though Wang Zheng had given the go-ahead, no one dared to take any.
*Playing coy, are they?* They were all quite good at acting. Since that was the case, they were forcing him to play the role of Lei Feng!
Wang Zheng gathered six large bouquets of roses, handed one to each person, and then stepped into the elevator, heading straight to the first floor. Because he had been taking Su Xue and Chuchu to work early these past few days, his own arrival time had shifted forward as well. When Wang Zheng arrived in the lobby, it was the peak of the morning rush, and he naturally became the center of attention while carrying the six large bouquets. The women at the reception desk who were familiar with him couldn't help but tease him.
"Brother Wang, what’s all this for? Trying to chase another girl?"
"Heh heh, 'flower girl,' all of them," Wang Zheng chuckled.
He piled the red roses on the reception desk, picked up one bouquet, and pulled out a few stems to give to the receptionists. Then, to the confusion of the other women, he began standing in the lobby, handing a rose to every woman who passed by. There were at least a thousand white-collar beauties in Yongan Tower; what were a mere thousand roses?
"Miss, you are truly beautiful, as radiant as these red roses. It seems you have a destiny with these flowers, so I shall give this one to you..."
"Miss, here is a rose for you. May you grow younger and more beautiful with each passing day."
"I’m afraid to stab you with a knife, I’m afraid of seeing blood; I’m afraid to poison you, there are too many fake drugs. Forget it, I’ll just give you a rose and let you be beautiful to death!"
Before handing out each flower, Wang Zheng would shower the recipient with extravagant compliments—whatever sounded best—while flashing a charming smile, leaving them blushing and delighted. No woman could resist a man’s praise, especially from someone as handsome as Wang Zheng. Thus, they felt embarrassed not to accept the roses. A strange scene unfolded in Yongan Tower: every woman was holding a red rose, each of them smiling and in an exceptionally good mood.
This series of events led to a sudden surge in business for every company in Yongan Tower that day, making a significant contribution to both corporate revenue and national tax!
