Chapter 131: Who Sent the Roses?

Bai Bing kept her promise and did not report Liao Tong’s espionage activities. Whether she would truly remain a discreet bystander, as she claimed, remained to be seen. However, this incident forced Wang Zheng to regard Bai Bing with newfound respect. To have identified the spy Wang Zheng mentioned in such a short time seemed to confirm Bai Bing’s assertion: Jinghua City was truly her territory.
Wang Zheng’s midnight rendezvous with Liao Tong was also thwarted because of Bai Bing, leaving him somewhat disappointed. After days of passionate vows, Wang Zheng had grown fond of the natural intimacy he shared with Liao Tong. In fact, he had become unaccustomed to sleeping alone.
The next morning, Wang Zheng lingered in bed a little longer, foregoing the usual purchase of Lao Li’s steamed buns. However, Bai Bing seemed deliberately intent on making things difficult. When Wang Zheng finally got up, the dining table was piled high with buns—undoubtedly Lao Li’s specialty.
Bai Bing’s smile was now tinged with mockery, clearly a punishment for Wang Zheng’s recent late nights. She intended to use the buns as a warning: nothing escaped her notice.
Wang Zheng understood Bai Bing’s intent but remained remarkably calm; showing anger would only play into her hands.
After a hurried breakfast, he went through his usual routine: dropping Su Xue and Chu Jun off at the TV station, then heading back to pick up Lin Xuan before finally arriving at Yong’an Building. Wang Zheng’s life was now overwhelmingly busy, all because of women.
Upon entering the company, the sharp eyes of the women’s team all turned toward Wang Zheng, their gazes complex—mostly confusion, subtle flirtation, and envy. This left Wang Zheng puzzled.
He approached Ye Ruo and asked, “What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?”
“No, but someone sent flowers to Director Lin—lots of red roses, filling the entire room!” Ye Ruo spread her arms wide to illustrate the abundance. Then she whispered, “Wang, was it you?”
Wang Zheng shook his head; he never sent flowers to women, and if he did, they’d be diamonds. He glanced toward Lin Xiaolei’s office. The door was closed. He gave Lin Xuan a knowing look, and she took the lead, deliberately leaving the door wide open to reveal the scene inside.
The office was a sea of fiery red roses—by Wang Zheng’s estimate, no less than a thousand. They covered the floor, desks, and windowsills. Only Lin Xiaolei was there, standing amidst the flowers with a bewildered and helpless expression, clearly unaware of who had sent them.
Bai Bing, standing beside Wang Zheng, nudged his arm playfully and said with glee, “Looks like you caught a small prize but lost a big one. This is going to be good!”
Wang Zheng glanced at Bai Bing, understanding her meaning: he had won Lin Xuan and Liao Tong but lost Lin Xiaolei. Though Wang Zheng was a businessman who avoided losses, losing Lin Xiaolei? Not a chance.
“I’ve got my eye on my prize; no one’s taking her away—even if I’m full,” Wang Zheng said coolly, then strode toward Lin Xiaolei’s office.
From afar, the rich scent of roses was unmistakable. Upon entering, Wang Zheng felt how cramped the once spacious office had become, with barely a spot to stand.

Who was so inconsiderate as to scatter the flowers everywhere?
Wang Zheng picked up a vibrant red rose, sniffing it. Disgusting. Who was the reckless fool who dared to send flowers to a woman he had already claimed?
“Who sent these?” Wang Zheng asked casually, stomping hard on a rose.
Lin Xiaolei appeared anything but pleased at the sight of the flowers. Upon seeing Wang Zheng enter, she grew anxious, rummaging through the floral sea as if searching for something.
“I don’t know!” she replied. “When I arrived, someone kept bringing flowers into my office until it was full, then left. When I asked, they said they were from the florist, delivered as per the client’s request, but wouldn’t say who the client was.”
“No card either? Sending over a thousand roses—that’s quite a grand gesture!” Bai Bing, ever the spectator, grinned, finally turning her gaze to Wang Zheng. “Was it you, Assistant Wang?”
Wang Zheng smiled faintly, refusing to lose his composure despite Bai Bing’s obvious provocation. With her skills, Bai Bing was still far from provoking him.
“I have a method to find out who sent them,” Wang Zheng said calmly, fixing his eyes on Lin Xiaolei.
Lin Xiaolei, nervous and confused, was afraid Wang Zheng might misunderstand the situation. Hearing his words, she actually didn’t want to know who the sender was.
“Maybe… just throw them out. I can’t work with all this here.”
“Throw them all away? Such a waste! Besides, flowers are innocent!” Bai Bing protested, seemingly defending the roses but secretly hoping to provoke Wang Zheng. Her intentions were cunning.
Wang Zheng smirked, said nothing, and picked up a bunch of roses. Opening the window, he tossed them outside. He suspected the sender was waiting somewhere nearby. One bunch after another flew out the window until most of the roses were gone. Suddenly, he stopped, raised a middle finger outside, then shut the window.
“If they send more, I’ll throw them again. I bet they’ll come out,” Wang Zheng said, turning to the women. “That’s my plan!” With that, he stepped on the roses scattered on the floor and left Lin Xiaolei’s office. His arm movements as he tossed the roses were truly impressive.
Inside the office, Lin Xiaolei, Lin Xuan, and Bai Bing exchanged glances, unsure whether Wang Zheng was truly angry or just playing detective.
Seeing the crushed roses underfoot, Bai Bing suddenly smiled and left the office eagerly, as if she’d witnessed something amusing.

Lin Xuan seemed to catch a clue from Wang Zheng’s actions, while Lin Xiaolei stood dumbfounded, unsure whether she was frightened by his brusque behavior or lost in other thoughts.
Following Wang Zheng into his office, Bai Bing’s face was now filled with mischievous delight—a stark contrast to her anger at the same time yesterday. Bai Bing was a capricious woman, unpredictable in her moods; no one could tell when she’d be happy or upset.
Wang Zheng sat down, and Bai Bing perched on his desk, unabashedly displaying her long, alluring legs before him—seductive and tantalizing.
“Jealous?” Bai Bing asked with a playful smile.
Wang Zheng paused, then casually placed his left hand on her thigh, eyes gleaming with desire as his hand roamed back and forth.
Bai Bing’s body jolted as if struck by electricity. She leapt off the desk, fists clenched before her in a fighting stance, her cheeks flushed crimson as she scolded, “What are you doing?”
Wang Zheng turned to her, matching her playful smile. “Shy now?”
His expression and tone mirrored Bai Bing’s earlier teasing perfectly, as if carved from the same mold. This was Wang Zheng’s revenge: fighting fire with fire.
Bai Bing pointed at him angrily, speechless with frustration. What a damn rogue!
“Now you realize how formidable I am?” Wang Zheng sneered. “You must be calling me a scoundrel in your heart, right? Well, so be it. What can you do about it? To me, Lin Xiaolei is no different from any other woman. So don’t challenge my authority or patience with this again! Every time you provoke me, I’ll play the rogue. Got it?”
His shameless words seemed to cool Bai Bing’s earlier fiery spirit instantly. Faced with this rogue who could turn mischievous at any moment, Bai Bing truly had no way to tame him.
Endowed with audacity, strength, and stamina—the essential qualities of a rogue—Wang Zheng embodied them all. Bai Bing swallowed her words, realizing it was wiser to behave when outmatched.
But who had sent those roses, after all?
