“Do you really have to cause trouble unless I beat you into a eunuch?” Jiang Xiwen growled in fury, lifting his knee just as the bald man’s fist was barely half an inch from his head, striking preemptively into the man’s groin.

Jiang Xiwen’s strength had long surpassed what it was when he faced Old Qi; now, fueled by rage, his strike was full force. The poor bald brute staggered back with a muffled grunt and collapsed, unconscious. It was likely he was ruined for good from that moment on.

Zhang Ya arrived just then, catching sight of Jiang Xiwen leaping into the lake and cried out loudly, “Jiang Xiwen…”

Chen Lu was still dazed from the fall. Seeing Zhang Ya, he winced in pain and shouted, “Sister Wen, don’t worry. Those thugs were all knocked out by Brother Wen. Your friend accidentally fell into the lake, and Brother Wen is going to save her.”

In Chen Lu’s eyes, Jiang Xiwen was capable of anything; swimming to rescue someone was child’s play. But Zhang Ya, who remembered Jiang Xiwen’s formerly shy and reserved nature, felt anxious for both him and Su Lai’s safety.

At that moment, Chen Lu called her “Sister Wen,” which caused her cheeks to flush involuntarily. She snapped, “What sister? Don’t be ridiculous…”

After running away from home, Zhang Ya’s first call was to Su Lai. Their parents knew each other, and the two girls spent nearly every summer vacation together.

Zhang Ya confided about her argument with her mother and said she wanted to spend a few days in Modu. Su Lai agreed to keep her secret.

Even though the two families usually called each other at New Year’s, Zhang Ya didn’t stay at Su Lai’s but took a hotel room for the time being.

On the third day of the Lunar New Year, the two girls went to the Misty Rain Pavilion to play, where Chen Lu spotted them. At first, they thought Chen Lu was a small-time thug, but after clarifying, they learned he had been sent by Jiang Xiwen to find Zhang Ya.

Though puzzled how Jiang Xiwen knew someone like Chen Lu, Zhang Ya was happy Jiang Xiwen had kept his promise and found her in time.

After confirming Zhang Ya’s identity, Chen Lu told them to wait by the lake while he went to call Yang Wei.

But when he returned, he ran into Scarface and his gang, who had heard about their boss Zhang’s beating in prison. Knowing Chen Lu was Yang Wei’s man, they immediately started trouble for him—and surrounded Zhang Ya and Su Lai as well.

Luckily, Chen Lu acted quickly. Before the circle closed, he charged forward and took a punch to allow the two girls to escape and call the police. Su Lai reacted swiftly, pushing Zhang Ya out of the encirclement, thus setting the scene Jiang Xiwen had witnessed.

Ripples on the lake soon calmed. Zhang Ya grew increasingly anxious on the shore, and after a short while, there was movement on the water’s surface.
